What do you think will happen to Cyric and his clerics in 4ed?

Will it be an underground deity or will he somehow have deceived his way back into favor?
Alediran

He'll be back again, to the dismay of every single person who hates him.

He'll be back again, to the dismay of every single person who hates him.
And to the delight of everyone who thinks he's a great deity to have around.

-Being as that he'll be inprisoned, his divine politicking will be greatly reduced.

Loss of power as well....maybe intermediate power now?

intermediate is gone

hope he'll be back soon in politicking schemes

what will happen with poor Malik

Loss of power as well....maybe intermediate power now?

-Probably not. Being imprisoned doesn't really equate to a loss of power, since he'll still be able to grant spells and so on (as far as we know).

But I think he'll lose quite a few followers, if most of Cyric worshippers were the ones to jump out of the boat at the sight of peril and backstab when needed... Taking into account that he helped to murder Mystra, his church will be even more alienated and forbidden.

I had quite a freudian slip, the first time I read this as "Cyric in bed", obviously my first thought was in the lines of 'wtf?!'.

-The Church of Cyric was never 'welcomed' to begin with. Not even in Zhentil Keep!
Kiioro

02-19-08, 02:10 PM
That's why I said "...even more..."

To believe in Cyric, you had to be a power-hungry secretive kind of lad/lass (minimal requirements, but well surpassed in many cases). Now, though, it looks like you'd need to be a power-hungry, slightly misanthropic and mentally unstable (paranoid?), secretive person. Which will make fun campaigns ensue, no doubt.
Lord Karsus

02-19-08, 02:19 PM
-Well, it is hard to be an outsider when you are already outside.
Kiioro

02-19-08, 02:35 PM
Damn, Karsus! You and your logic!

(I really need to sleep. But I think that I managed to state my point of view without sounding insane before, no?)
Alediran

There is a difference LK, if you are an outsider's outsider it means that it's easier to Banish you from any place in the Multiverse.

But then, you'd be banished to where, real life?

The more I read about Cyric the more I actually like him. I like to hate him. He's so devious and spiteful. At first I didn't really like this guy because he killed Bhaal. Then I actually finished the Avatar Trilogy and see him in a better light. He's a good villan.

Heya,

Cyric probably won't stay imprisoned for long... After all, they wanted new stories to tell about him, that's one reason why they killed Mystra. :rolleye2:

If Cyric is under house arrest, I wonder if he has to wear one of those anklet moniters or something.

Though god help the one that has to wear Mask's dorky mask. While reading Prince of Lies I laughed out loud seeing how Mask was drawn. He looked like a 30's comic book villan. Actually.....he looked like he was wearing a black version of the KKK's outfit lol.

-In the 4e Realms, if Shar and Cyric continue their alliance, I don't want to see it as a buddy-buddy thing. I'd like Cyric to perhaps be in love with Shar, and Shar, knowing this, using Cyric to further her own means, without recipricating the affection.

Personally, I wouldn't like that. I mean, she already did that with Jergal, Kozah/Talos and that other crazy Netherese deity that fell in love with her. I think that they should forge a sincere alliance to survive, while they may have defeated their greatest foe -Mystra- and they are probably more powerful than ever in 4th edition with all that destruction, loss, death and calamities, the good-aligned deities surely are more pi$$ed than ever and united too, and, because of that, they should be cautious until the moment in which they can bring down the rest of their opposition.

-Exactly. With the Shadow Weave gone, she should return to her old ways.

-I may be wrong, but nothing in AGHotR gave me the impression that anyone knows that Shar was involved. We know that Cyric slew Mystra with Shar's backing, but no one else necessarily knows. After all, Shar works in the metaphorical shadows.

Not necessarily, first she was a sneaky manipulator, later a portfolio usurper, maybe now she'll take another direction, if there's a deity that knows when and how to change tactics that's Shar. Consider that in 4th Edition the Empire of Shade is a major power player in the realms (if not the most powerful one) and a lot of events related to Shar's portfolios happened, this things gave her a lot of power for sure (or at least, somewhat decreased the activity/power of an important portion of the other deities). Maybe now her destructive face can take precedence over the other aspects of her portfolio and she starts a campaign of direct obliteration against her enemies.

Right, but she was never liked in the first place and I can totally picture the goods deities as somewhat paranoid or sensitive to any evil activity in this "brave new world". Plus the Shadow Weave disappears as such, maybe that will make the rest of the pantheon somewhat suspicious of Shar (remember that she tried to acquire the Weave for herself and failed to do so).

-The 4e Empire of Shade might not have any relationship with Shar:

[SBLOCK]-Realms of War states that Prince Revalen, the High Priest of Shar, feels betrayed by her, and has a moment of doubt in his faith. While this might be nothing, it could also theoretically mean that he causes the Empire of Shade to cut all relations with her.[/QUOTE]

-That's why deities like Torm, who has been 'renewed' and 'empowered' in 4e stress not acting rashly and without thinking things through (lawful and good behaviors).

It would be an honor. When you're all powerful, sometimes its fun to serve another powerful being, knowing that at anytime you can take over. Same deal I gave the Joker then? What do I do to become a Hand of Karsus?
