Has there been anything out on existing and if possible still ongoing alliances between FR deities and the aforementioned entities of the Abyss or the Nine Hells? The Fiendish Codices open up a fine new picture on the latter and one wonders whether any FR deity works with them to e.g. thwart another deity.

Paix 07-16-07, 01:07 PM	If you use the new cosmology, I guess the options are extremely limited. Planescape products contained brief mentions of the relations of the various deities that shared their realms with fiends. Set had an interesting position, since in his realm in the Nine Hells, a rare flower blossomed that allowed the partial recovery of memory lost to Styx. However it was made clear that deities, either feared or were extremely wary and tried to avoid mingling in the Blood War. Somehow involvement invariably resulted in the deities coming worse out of any such deals, namely losing their divine power gradualy. Whether the demon or devil lords could directly sap their power or whether the loss resulted from the drain on their resources/followers it was not made clear (probably a combination). Diinkarazan, Beshaba, Auril, Gorreluk, the Great Mother, Laogzed, Merrshaulk, Urdlen, Ramenos, Sess'inek where the FR gods that had their own layers in the Abyss. They had no formal ties to the demon lords. Instead it was stipulated that the strife among them was endless. (Planes of Chaos boxed set). For example Sess'inek had sealed all portals leading to his layer. Tiamat is known to have some sort of deal with the Baatezu, but it is unclear whether the deal is with Bel, the Dark Eight or Asmodeus. She lends her abishai to them. In Gehenna there is even a creature that feeds on divine power. An Awnsheghlien. In the Gray Waste, the powers of death along with Shar and Mask had their realms but they too avoided dealing with the Yugoloths. Anthraxus attempted to sell his services to them but they ignored him. I guess the sight of Khin-Oin is enough to remind powers what deals with fiends entail.

I am not looking for possible or logical alliances, but those mentioned in books before, the more up to date and detailed, the better. I will double check on alliances given in the F&A series, but most in there just give us names and nothing more. So if there's been a Dragon or Dungeon out ther speaking about an alliance of e.g. Mask with Rhyxali, sister of Grazz't, let me know.
Micheal_Roele 07-19-07, 09:12 AM	Tiamat is the one I know. she has a deal with Bel, Lord of the First. She loans him abishai to be used in the Blood War. The Archdevils for the most part, as portrayed in FC II, don't have long lasting alliances with the gods, as the Devils are trying to corrupt souls of their followers. I wouldn't think any deity, would trust a Demon Lord. Demons aren't exactly reliable. Graz'zt seems to be the one who traffics the most with deities (his son Iuz of Geyhawk) but his schemes seem to backfire and makes him more enemies (Waukeen) when it involves the gods.

Arrogant deities sometimes do need to be reminded of their place;) As for alliances that haven't been mentioned yet...there is the association that Dispater has with the Arcane Brotherhood, although I dunno if that extends to some deity in the outer planes or not. Then there is Glasya's prescence in the Zhentarim. Last I recall, she seems to be indirectly working with Cyricists to bring down Bane's power over the Network.
