| Razz03-29-07, 04:50 PM | I noticed the Realms lack a Faerunian deity that actually represents the philosophies and cause of Good, Evil, Law, Chaos, and Neutrality. There's also a lack of a deity of Fate and Destiny. A deity of Life is also missing. We have deities very close to those but the deity merely dips in it or the deity is not a Faerunian deity. One could argue that Tyr is the deity of Law, but it's not his portfolio nor is he the proper alignment (Lawful Neutral). Helm wouldn't work and Amaunator, the only deity of Law, is dead. There was a deity of chaos and anarchy, but he is dead too, slain by Tyr. As for Good, while there're a lot of good deities in the Faerunian Pantheon, none of them represent goodness itself. The same would go for evil though Cyric comes in close. As for Neutrality, the closest would be Oghma but he is definitely not a patron for those interested in the "Balance of the Cosmos" and the "Balance Between Good&Evil", Law&Chaos" like Gilean is in Dragonlance setting. With Fate and Destiny, Selune is only prophecy, basically of things to come and happen but not sure exactly what. Savras is the closest, but again, a diviner of events, not an actual entity in charge of the Fate and Destiny of mortals and immortals alike. Maybe Ao has this portfolio? Finally, Life. There's a deity of Death, but none of Life? Horus-Re counts, but he is in the Mulhorandi Pantheon and I am speaking about Faerunian Pantheon. The closest one is Chauntea, but it's not specifically her portfolio. Any reason for this? It's quite strange and was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were? |
| Meldread03-29-07, 06:55 PM | As you pointed out Selune and Savras more or less have fate covered, prophesy is linked to fate. (To prophesy what is to come is to imply that a fated event is to take place.) There does not need to be deities for the various alignments. Alignment is a game mechanic and is not tangible in the game world. There is no deity of slaves, which I find odd considering the number of them. No true deity of the down trodden - certainly there are deities who reach out to them, not do deity that truly encompasses them. |
| Lord Karsus03-29-07, 07:07 PM | There is no deity of slaves, which I find odd considering the number of them. No true deity of the down trodden - certainly there are deities who reach out to them, not do deity that truly encompasses them. -Ibrandul (and now Shar) has that covered, sort of. One of the Beholder cities...Ootal, I think, had a "large" temple of Ibrandul for the slaves. Being as that they were all slaves, and quite downtrodden, I am fairly sure that at least a sizeable portion of the slaves there adopted him(her) as their patron. Whether or not this has spread, I don't know. -I have a very long list of portfolios that the Human Pantheon Proper is missing, if anyone wants. |
| SilverFullmoon03-29-07, 07:09 PM | Ilmater is the closest you can get to a god of slaves, as he is god of suffering and enduring pain. You can't get much closer than that. PS: I know Loviatar is the goddess of pain, both giving and receiving. But Ilmater's portolios always seemed to me to cover having to endure pain. |
| Zevox03-29-07, 07:27 PM | Aye, the very idea of gods of individual alignments has never appealed to me (hence one of my reasons for preferring the Realms to Dragonlance). Thats a game mechanic, and in any event way too general - with that, why do you need Gods of individual good/evil/lawful/chaotic/neutral things, since whoever has that overarching portfolio has all things of that type covered? Thats just dull. I far prefer seeing Gods that represent ideals and things associated with those alignments - instead of a God of Goodness, we have a God of Justice, a God of Honor and Duty, a Goddess of Freedom and Joy, a Goddess of Love, a Goddess of Peace, and so on. Instead of a God of Evil, we have a God of Tyrrany and Hatred, a God of Strife, a God of Thievery and Shadows, a Goddess of Darkness, a God of Destruction and Natural Disasters, and so on. Much more interesting, and more in keeping with reality (*glances at old mythologies chock full of Gods in this manner*). As for the others: with Fate, Savras has that covered. For Life, Chauntea and Lathander are close enough if you ask me. I'm kind of surprised you missed the most commonly noted missing portfolio, Healing. But of course then we'd just get to answer that between Lathander and Ilmater thats basically covered, even though no one technically has it. Zevox |

But of course then we'd just get to answer that between Lathander and Ilmater thats basically covered, even though no one technically has it. -Luthic (The Orc Goddess) and Sharindlar (The Dwarven Goddess) both have the Healing portfolio. They aren't part of the Faerūnian Human pantheon, but they both are Faerūnian deities, as much as an aspect of them exists in Realmspace, anyway. |
| SATA03-29-07, 07:48 PM | IMHO There's no need for every aspect of life or every concept to have or be a portfolio in the Realms, personally I like and enjoy the faerunian pantheon the way it is, not totally but at least the 90% of his foundation. Others pantheons and settings do have different portfolio, like Law, Chaos, Good, Evil, etc. but at least the faerunian pantheon don't and in MY point of view that give some freedom and some flavor to the Realms and the the faerunian pantheon. There is one deity who talk about 'Balance' and that's Silvanus, but he seek the balance of nature, therefore, Toril as a world, not aspects of living beings's persona. Also there is Lathander, god of birth and few other portfolios. I dislike the portfolio of Life because it encompass all, because life is a mix of happiness, suffering, pleasure, joy, etc.(so practically almost every faerunian deity have a portion of what, if everything is put together, conform life) so I enjoy the fact that the Life portfolio don't exits in the faerunian pantheon, just Lathander's birth portfolio that it is the initiation of the course that every soul have and that's why Death is only a step in the soul journey and the beginning of the afterlife. |
| Old Sage03-29-07, 08:01 PM | There is no deity of slaves, which I find odd considering the number of them. No true deity of the down trodden - certainly there are deities who reach out to them, not do deity that truly encompasses them.Kiaransalee, through her *dedicated* faithful, certainly has some attention given over to slaves/slavery. |
| Old Sage03-29-07, 08:02 PM | One of the Beholder cities...Ootal, I think, had a "large" temple of Ibrandul for the slaves. You're referring to the Runemesa. And it's in Zokir, not Ootul. |
| Lord Karsus03-29-07, 08:10 PM | You're referring to the Runemesa. And it's in Zokir, not Ootul. -That is indeed what I was referring to. |
| Razz03-29-07, 08:29 PM | Ilmater is the closest you can get to a god of slaves, as he is god of suffering and enduring pain. You can't get much closer than that. PS: I know Loviatar is the goddess of pain, both giving and receiving. But Ilmater's portolios always seemed to me to cover having to endure pain. No, you are correct. Ilmater is definitely heavily worshipped by slaves. He has a large following in Thay made up from the slave population. |
| Razz03-29-07, 08:31 PM | I'm kind of surprised you missed the most commonly noted missing portfolio, Healing. But of course then we'd just get to answer that between Lathander and Ilmater thats basically covered, even though no one technically has it. Zevox Ilmater covers that one, too. Though he doesn't have it as a portfolio, he is the best candidate for it in the Faerunian Pantheon. |
| Razz03-29-07, 08:34 PM | Well I can see Good and Evil as areas that don't necessarily need to be dominated by any one deity in Faerun. But Law and Chaos? There's no deity that enforces Laws are followed or that oversees that the Ultimate Order is maintained. We can't really use Tyr, because while he maintains Law and Order, it's for the cause of justice, to right the wrongs. As for Chaos, I can see Cyric as the best choice since he represents strife. But, again, he's too far into the destructive side of Chaos, not Chaos itself. And Faerun did have a deity of anarchy, but Tyr killed him when he first entered the Realms. As for Life, I can agree with that. Chauntea best fits anyway. Neutrality is more complicated. I guess it's unnecessary and I assume Ao is the dominant force for that anyway. |
| BadCatMan03-29-07, 08:44 PM | The Good/Evil/Law/Chaos/Neutral alignment focus of standard D&D is silly, simplistic and tacky, IMO, when it's not a simple stat. The world is a whole lot more interesting and varied than a nine slot pidgeonhole. Really, the Realms had less to do with the alignment system than Eberron. I'd rather see new gods of outcasts, redemption, and other much more interesting aspects of life. |
| Yxunomei03-29-07, 10:13 PM | I'd think that a God of Life would be too powerful, and would likely also constitute portfolios such as "immortality", "vitality" and "birth" (me thinks Lathander would like to add "life" to his collection). Though I like to think that only Ao can hold that. But last I checked, Fate (or Fatalism) was a portfolio held by Jergal. I also hate the idea of alignment portfolios... which is why I don't particularly like the portfolios of "evil magic", "good magic", "evil necromancers" or Lolth's portfolio of evil itself. For any fans of Friedrick Nietzsche, the concept of good and evil can vary depending on your perspective :) |
| Zevox03-29-07, 11:11 PM | -Luthic (The Orc Goddess) and Sharindlar (The Dwarven Goddess) both have the Healing portfolio. They aren't part of the Faerūnian Human pantheon, but they both are Faerūnian deities, as much as an aspect of them exists in Realmspace, anyway. I was actually thinking just of the Faerūnian pantheon. I dislike the portfolio of Life because it encompass all, because life is a mix of happiness, suffering, pleasure, joy, etc.(so practically almost every faerunian deity have a portion of what, if everything is put together, conform life) Now, that one I have to disagree with. A portfolio of "Life" needn't mean "everything to do with living", but rather simply "living creatures" or "the quality of being alive" (I know, that sounds dictionary-like, but I'm trying to find a way to get my idea across clearly). Ilmater covers that one, too. Though he doesn't have it as a portfolio, he is the best candidate for it in the Faerunian Pantheon. Aye, and you'll note he was one of the two I mentioned as such. Well I can see Good and Evil as areas that don't necessarily need to be dominated by any one deity in Faerun. But Law and Chaos? There's no deity that enforces Laws are followed or that oversees that the Ultimate Order is maintained. But, again, he's too far into the destructive side of Chaos, not Chaos itself. And Faerun did have a deity of anarchy, but Tyr killed him when he first entered the Realms. I think those (and neutrality) fall under the same lines as good and evil, personally. Mindless adherence to law for the sake of order? Mindless adherence to chaos for the sake of... whatever the hell you feel like, I guess? Blech. Helm's too close to the former already, if you ask me. Give me Gods who embody ideals related to those instead - Shaundakul's wanderlust for chaos, Hoar's poetic justice and retribution for law, etc Neutrality is more complicated. I guess it's unnecessary and I assume Ao is the dominant force for that anyway. Ao does enforce some sort of cosmic balance between the Gods, but hes so removed from them generally he can't really be considered to represent such. Zevox |
| Lord Karsus03-29-07, 11:35 PM | For any fans of Friedrick Nietzsche, the concept of good and evil can vary depending on your perspective :) -As do the Sith, who probably have a larger fan following than the German philosopher (At least here, I am assuming, anyway). |
| GothicDan03-30-07, 02:13 AM | The problem with there being deities of Law and Chaos is that such things vary immensely from one culture to the next, so there's no way to define them from anything remotely approaching an objective standpoint. For more highly developed civilizations, there also tends to be an implicit link with Law/Good and Chaos/Evil, though. That's where you'd have Tyr versus Talos or Cyric. |
| Genasi_tac03-30-07, 06:58 AM | For any fans of Friedrick Nietzsche, the concept of good and evil can vary depending on your perspective There are no moral actions, only moral interpretations eh? ;) |

| Meldread03-30-07, 01:12 PM | True, Ilmater is somewhat a patron of slaves for the fact that he is a god that speaks of enduring pain and suffering. However, I was speaking of a deity that focuses directly upon slaves - a deity that encourages slaves to maintain their old way of life (native culture) and to rebel. Something along those lines. Lliira comes close as she is the goddess of freedom and liberty. I could certainly see that - her followers would keep the moral of the slaves up, spreading joy and happiness, as they plot to overthrow their masters. Shar could also potentially be a deity of slaves, which would be an interesting and scary turn of events (for the slave holders). The revolution will not be televised, indeed. A Sharran rebellion of slaves could happen and no one would know until they ruled the city. Scary. Lord Karsus post your list, I'm interested. |
| Mpinkard03-30-07, 01:29 PM | Well without reading everyone elses posts a couple of deities that come to mind also, would be the draconic pantheon. Xymor(Bahamut or Marduk) is meerly mentioned in Dragons of Faerūn(in a few paragraphs), Tiamat is actually listed in the FR Faith and Pantheons and others such as the neutral dragon deities and kobald deities are completely left out. |
| The Ubbergeek03-30-07, 04:10 PM | Illmater is not passive. It allow followers to fight for their freedom, even with violence if needed. Only, it ask of his followers to be ready to stand for good, truth and hope - even if it leads you to the rack of torture. With honor and courage. He can be 'the Kung-Fu Jesus' deity. |

I'm not sure a diety like that would work. Once the slaves were freed, why would they continue to worship him? Unless they worked to free others vie an underground network. Of course, you could to his porfolio slavery and freedom, he would become the patron of freed slaves and still held slaves. Shar could also potentially be a deity of slaves, which would be an interesting and scary turn of events (for the slave holders). The revolution will not be televised, indeed. A Sharran rebellion of slaves could happen and no one would know until they ruled the city. Scary. I'm not sure Shar would work like that. I'd see her playing both against the middle for her own ends by supporting both the slaves and the masters. And whoever ended up on top after a power struggle would be the strongest and worthy of her 'gifts'. Then she would use them for her own ends. Silver |

Of course, the third's arguably subjective, but honestly I have a hard time picturing even the lowest of demigods getting by on the distinctions that can be raised; the possible exception being Illusionists, considering the various nonchaotic/nonevil ones who'd want nothing to do with Cyric. Regardless of their presence or absence, the racial gods I mentioned obviously aren't human, but a human god of beholders doesn't make sense to begin with. I'd imagine there's plenty more as far as redundancy goes, both in terms of the listed vs. established portfolios and even within that body of portfolios alone. Even so, there'd be plenty left standing. The bolded are outright mentioned under existing divine portfolios for deities who clearly have a presence within the realms, and the :censored: is my graceless compromise to the impulse of railing, once more, against Bane's spontaneous acquisition of Fear. |
| Razz04-01-07, 07:33 AM | The italicized indicate either that I'm unsure that the god exists within Realmspace, the god is appealed to in the portfolio's capacity, or that portfolio can only be held to be distinct from the god/the god's portfolio by the most suspect of margins. The Great Mother, Ilsensine, Kurtulmak, Maglubiyet, Nomog-Geaya all exist in the Realms still to this day. It's been stated by the designers many times to ignore the passage in the back of Faiths&Pantheons about culled deities and that whatever existed in the Realms as an official deity in previous editions continues to exist today. In fact, they added new ones to that roster in Serpent Kingdoms and one in City of Splendors: Waterdeep (I think, don't quote me on that, but I did recently read a 3E FR book I own that shows this) where an aboleth worships an aboleth deity detailed in Lords of Madness. |
| Burningspear04-01-07, 10:26 PM | Law as an instrument to be "used" adhered to, is covered by the dead reverent god Amaunator, he was Law "incarnate" and died by his own sticking to the Law (makes me think of Judge Dredd, "What Law, I am the Law") |

| Lord Karsus04-03-07, 10:05 PM | I'm still trying to figure out why Lord Karsus would think that a God of Sterility would make sense in the Realms. Interesting .... -I didn't say that any of them make sense. Those are just portfolios that are missing in the Faerūnian Pantheon. And, it makes lots of sense to me. Just like you pray and appease Talos, or Umberlee, to keep storms away, you pray and appease the deity of sterility, to keep sterile. |
| Lady_Mhaor04-03-07, 11:01 PM | :evillaugh gods every would be havin little spawns and half-fiends would run rampant and orcs would die out, followed by sun elves |
| Meldread04-03-07, 11:47 PM | The portfolio of sterility would also elicit worshipers like those of Beshaba. Whatever deity held it would likely receive prayers from those to ward off bad luck in conceiving children, or wish to keep from being "cursed" with infertility. The portfolio would most likely fall to Shar, as Selune is often prayed to by women who wish to conceive children. Sterility being the opposite (and the fact that Shar wishes to kill off all of existence - making everything and everyone sterile is a good start) would likely fall into her domain. |
| BadCatMan04-03-07, 11:54 PM | Actually sterility could be part of a portfolio of a dedicated god of healing, hygiene, and health. Such a god would be an opponent of Talona, Ghaunadaur and Moander for example. When considering portfolios, it's important to think about all aspects of that portfolio, and what it really means. |
| Meldread04-04-07, 12:03 AM | That's true, but currently no such deity exists. Although I think hygiene would cover that form of sterility adequately enough. |

| Lord Karsus04-04-07, 06:13 PM | That's true, but currently no such deity exists. -Not in the Faerūnian Human pantheon, anyway. There are, as I mentioned somewhere, deities in other pantheons who deal with healing, and such. when in doubt just say Finder has the portfolio -That would make no sense, since, if applied in the broadest of senses, Finder opposes sterility, with sterility impeding creativity. <slight post jacking> Or just make a up a couple of "lost" gods named Hehasit and Shehasit and any portfolio you that you can't find a fit for give it to either one. Of course, that would be disseminating bad information, but in a pinch, it works. ;) |
| Meldread04-04-07, 06:45 PM | Yes, there are three known deities with the Healing Portfolio, Berronar Truesilver and Sharindlar who are both in the Dwarven Pantheon, and Luthic from the Orcish Pantheon. However, if you look at their other portfolios and their stated goals, you'd quickly see that it really doesn't fit with them. If Ilmater was given the portfolio of healing, he could have sterility in the clinical sense, but I still think it best suits Shar both due to her stated claims and for the fact that Selune is often seen as a fertility goddess by some women. |

| theAlastorian04-05-07, 12:03 PM | Man, I can't believe I'm actually posting a reply regarding the sterility domain. Ok, here goes. While I agree that sterility would fit well within Shar's domain, I would have to side wholly with the camp that it reflects her desire to reduce existence to nothingness. I can't see where the argument of "well Selune has it and so Shar must immediately have the direct opposite" holds up. Sure, they oppose each other vehemently, but that doesn't mean that they don't have individual personality quirks. Heck, if that argument were completely true, then one of them would have to be dead to continue being opposite in every way. |
| Meldread04-05-07, 12:10 PM | Heck, if that argument were completely true, then one of them would have to be dead to continue being opposite in every way. They're both working hard on that. :P |

| Meldread04-08-07, 05:40 PM | Dedrick the Purple Dragon, the Lord of Rain Faerunian Demigod Symbol: A Soaring Purple Dragon Home Plane: Brightwater Portfolios: Noisiness, Homosexuality, Rain, Canines Worshipers: Homosexuals, those who enjoy the bustle of large cities, those who enjoy or fear the rain, werewolves (particularly homosexual werewolves), and some sentient canines, adventurers Cleric Alignments: CG, CN, NG Domains: Good, Chaos, Animal, Charm, Storm Favored Weapon: The Rainbow (Longbow) Allies: Sharess, Lliira, Finder Wyvernspur Foes: Talos, Shar, Cyric and most other evil deities As a mortal, Dedrick was born into Cormyr Nobility, and cast out by his family when it was revealed he was a homosexual. He went on to pursue a life of adventure, living every moment to the fullest with no regrets. He was one of the first mortals to discover a way to achieve divinity through a method laid forth by Talos. Cunning and clever, Dedrick managed to find a way to evade falling under Talos thumb before ascending to godhood, and in doing so obtained the portfolio of rain. To stave off the wrath of Talos, he quickly swore allegiance to Lliira, the patron deity he served as a mortal, whom he now not only counts as a close ally but a trusted friend. Many view Dedrick as an eccentric lover of art, music, wine, adventure, and other revels - including handsome men - who enjoys having fun and encourages others to do the same. However, he is also prone to brood about the current state of Faerun, as well as coming up with various schemes to increase his influence and to undermine those he considers enemies. His church is small, and though he has no temples he has many shrines dedicated to him throughout Faerun. Many of his faithful often share space with those who worship Lliira, and he is most likely to have a shrine in large metropolitan areas - visited by those who love the hustle and bustle of large cities - and in areas prone to flooding. Dedrick and Talos are locked in an endless battle over the portfolio of storms, which Dedrick seeks to take away from the evil deity, and it is believed that when a storm comes and there is no rain that it is a result of Dedrick denying Talos the ability. This bitter rivalry has lead to many plots, some of which if known to other deities, would be highly frowned upon. Dedrick has had secret meetings with various enemies and shaky allies of the Stormlord, including Velsharoon and Malar, and it is believed that he shall soon make his final stand. The Church of Dedrick has no real hierarchy, but the deity is perhaps the most active of all the deities of Faerun, and is in constant communication with his priests and directing them to work as he sees fit. He takes pity on homosexuals cast out by their families, on abandoned pets - particularly canines and other societal outcasts. His church works hard to make the lives of such people better, and often run animal shelters and open their homes to those cast out of their families by others. In larger cities, with the exception of Cormyr, some homosexuals tattoo themselves with Dedrick's Holy Symbol as a way for other homosexuals to easily identify them. In Cormyr the tattoo of a Doberman dog is popular, and is the adopted symbol of the church there. Dogma: Be true to yourself and embrace the beauty of the world, for a mortals life is finite and must be enjoyed. Aid all who are cast out or condemned by others, especially homosexuals for they are my favored children. Stand hard against tyranny and those who seek to harm or oppress others, and those who cause cruelty to animals, particularly dogs who shall forever be mans best friend. Enjoy the sound of the rain for it is my music, and enjoy the bustle of the city for it is my home. Know that the best gift you can give another is happiness, and that when the rain stops there will always be a rainbow. Where there is life I am there, smiling down upon Faerun. --- That was both fun and rather easy. |

| Meldread04-08-07, 08:03 PM | Heh, I had much more. Such as how he has a secret crush on Finder Wyvernspur and makes constant appeals to his vanity, and how Sharess constantly is pushing him to be more hedonistic. I wanted to somehow include a mention of "It's raining men", but I couldn't figure out how to work that in and still remain a mostly serious post. I liked how I worked in gay symbolism - the rainbow and the color purple without drawing images of real world parallels. ;) It was actually a fun challenge to make all those portfolios fit together. :P P.S. Dedrick's Chosen -has- to be a Chaotic Good gay werewolf (true lycanthrope). Said Chosen, Dedrick and his followers are currently plotting to get their own Forgotten Realm's Novel. Oh yes, it shall happen! |

| Soltares04-09-07, 12:20 AM | True, Ilmater is somewhat a patron of slaves for the fact that he is a god that speaks of enduring pain and suffering. However, I was speaking of a deity that focuses directly upon slaves - a deity that encourages slaves to maintain their old way of life (native culture) and to rebel. Something along those lines. Oerth has a god named Tritherion, who is CG and obsessed with freedom, individuality and rabidly opposed to slavery and oppression. While the Realms lacks a perfect parallel, I would think that Gwaeron might appeal to the slave who dreams only of freedom, while Hoar would speak to the ones who want to fight their oppressors. I kind of prefer that, with some slaves seeking only to endure (worshipping Ilmater), others daydreaming of escape (Gwaeron) and others have darker fantasies of strangling their captors in their own chains (Hoar). A single god 'of slaves,' would be overly specialized, I think. One thing that I like about Eberron or the Scarred Lands' tighter pantheons is that they made an attempt to design them around the domain lists and 'cover all of the bases.' Both the Realms and Greyhawk had extensive pre-existing lists of gods, and the domains / spheres didn't get retroactively kludged in until afterwards, with some pretty scary artificial stuff happening. (Such as the gods of assassins and illusionists being killed off with the Assassin and Illusionist classes, only to have both of the classes added back in later...) The Realms gods could benefit from a sort of re-evaluation to weed out the duplicates (do we *really* need five seperate good aligned Moon goddesses?) and make sure all of the 'bases' are covered. With such a large selection of gods, there's no reason one couldn't have an evil Sun god or a good Fire god. |
| Lord Karsus04-09-07, 12:58 AM | The Realms gods could benefit from a sort of re-evaluation to weed out the duplicates (do we *really* need five seperate good aligned Moon goddesses?) -Since they all come from different pantheons, yes. With such a large selection of gods, there's no reason one couldn't have an evil Sun god... -At'ta, I believe his name is, in the evil sun deity of the Bedine. |
| GothicDan04-09-07, 11:23 AM | The Realms gods could benefit from a sort of re-evaluation to weed out the duplicates (do we *really* need five seperate good aligned Moon goddesses?) and make sure all of the 'bases' are covered. Oddly enough, historical cases of 'tight' pantheons (Greek, Roman, etc.) have an incredibly large number of 'redunant' deities based on local customs and the like. I really enjoy that aspect of the Realms' pantheon. |
| Zevox04-09-07, 12:26 PM | With such a large selection of gods, there's no reason one couldn't have an evil Sun god or a good Fire god. Myrkul was God of Dusk and evil. Considering the "sun" portfolio is split into Dawn, Noon, and Dusk in the Faerūnian pantheon, thats an evil sun god for you. Good fire God... eh, first we'd need to have a reason to have more than one fire God, and since the only fire god is Kossuth - an aloof elemental lord who is little known outside of Thay - I don't think fire is considered important enough to warrant another by Faerūn's mortals. You cannot just start weeding out gods with history and linked story line out of the equation just because u think he/ she is redundant, as other people might love them so much. Just because i dont like Temput and think he is redundant does not mean he should be kicked out. (i prefer Garagos and Hoar as possible gods of war, and maybe on a good day Anhur, though i dislike him to be portrayed as a proper Mulhorandi god, he has no atmosphere as mulhorandi in my eyes...) just to give you some examples.. |

But if I may, I would like to see the canine aspect more salient on him. The problem with werewolves is that they are CE, but he could be a CN gay werewolf, or a druid. Plus, you could put outcasts as worshipers, and state that a dog is even the worst outcast best friend, thus their importance to the community. Oh, and why don“t we continue the "game"? |
| Meldread04-09-07, 07:47 PM | I thought the rules for Lycanthropes were slightly different in the Forgotten Realms. I certainly know that CG Werewolves exist in the Realms, because I believe some of them follow Selune. I could be wrong though. I came up with Dedrick in about 15-20 minutes or so and it was a pretty decent challenge to make all those portfolios fit together. There were some other things that I wanted to include, but didn't - such as his friendly rivalry with Sharess over whether or not cats are superior to dogs. He has a lot of room to grow, and he could pick up many different portfolios, which could easily catapult him into lesser or intermediate deity status. Here are some portfolios that he could pick up to expand himself: outcasts, rebels, unity, community, friendship, compassion, cities and shelter. This could create an interesting alliance (or rivalry) between him and Ilmater as they share like minds, even if they have different approaches to similar problems. |
| Burningspear04-09-07, 10:59 PM | Here are some portfolios that he could pick up to expand himself: outcasts, rebels, unity, community, friendship, compassion, cities and shelter. Not quite, as Ghaunadaur already has the "Rebels and outcasts" portfolio's !!! and although he is only a lesser deity, he has been around to long to just lose them to some little interloper... |
| GothicDan04-09-07, 11:00 PM | Ghaundaur isn't part of the proper Faerunian pantheon. Gargauth is, though, and one might think he'd have some influence over that portfolio. |
| Meldread04-10-07, 12:07 AM | As GothicDan said, Ghaunadaur isn't a part of the Faerunian pantheon. What would be interesting to know is the exact method that determines when and how a deity gets a new portfolio. I would assume that on Toril it would require approval from Ao and the deity encouraging his followers to worship him in such a way - then over time the portfolio would be granted. If that is the case, I find it odd that more deities aren't trying to expand their portfolio list by taking things that no one has claim too. Shar I could imagine would want claims over outcasts, while Talos would want the portfolio of rebels (he already has rebellion). |
| Burningspear04-10-07, 11:06 AM | Ghaundaur isn't part of the proper Faerunian pantheon. Gargauth is, though, and one might think he'd have some influence over that portfolio. Ooooo, so because GothicDan says it is so, it must be so?. What about a Forgotten Realms Setting book? where it says that he is one of the gods in the setting, and is in the Drow Pantheon, does that not count as being a member of Faeruhns Pantheon, regardless of where he is situated. Just like the Mulhorandi and Adama groups and the Dwarves and the Elves.. |

| Burningspear04-10-07, 11:55 AM | whati meant by that sarcasm is : i didslike the notion of people just ignoring gods in another list in favor of the ones that are already in the "basic" list, and therefore even those who have nothing to do with the original portfolio have a stripe more then ones that are in another list who already have said portfolio, thats just weird and BS to me :tie: (not intending to insult anyone, just my opinion) |
| Meldread04-10-07, 12:16 PM | It is important because of how portfolios work. Deities of different pantheons can hold the same portfolio, but deities within the same pantheon above the rank of demigod cannot. This is why there are a large number of deities in the Realm's who have the portfolios of war and magic, and why Tempus and Mystra haven't tried to smite them. It is because they are all within different pantheons. It is also why Garagos can hold the portfolio of war like Tempus and still be in the Faerunian Pantheon, because Garagos is a demigod. If you were to ignore the differences of pantheons then you would have a whole host of problems, and a gods war of epic proportion. |

| Boda04-11-07, 09:00 AM | Time. There's no deity of time (the first dimension that came to be). |
| GothicDan04-11-07, 09:33 AM | 'The first dimension that came to be'? Uh.... The physicist in me must be stifled... Must be stifled... |
| BrennonGoldeye04-11-07, 10:15 AM | 'The first dimension that came to be'? Uh.... The physicist in me must be stifled... Must be stifled... The physicist in me is going :uh-huh: . Then again, the order of entrance is not quite needed. Old Amaunator held the portfolio of Time. I wonder if it's been split into that whole dawn/day/dusk thing? :) |
| BadCatMan04-11-07, 10:28 AM | That would be Labelas Enoreth, an elven god, but he absorbed the obscure human deity Chronos. Pantheonic boundaries are just too fuzzy when it comes to who holds what for whom. |
| Old Sage04-11-07, 11:19 AM | The Faerūnian pantheon does not have a specific deity of time any more. Mystryl was the Netherese deity of time, even though Amaunator believed he was actually the deity of time [see Amaunator's entry in F&A]. The absense of any Time portfolio among any pantheons (excluding that held by Labelas) indicates that there is currently no true emphasis of the Time portfolio on Toril at this point. I'm content to believe that the Time portfolio is currently unclaimed in the human pantheons... it's largely supported by the lore and we've seen nothing to suggest otherwise at this point. Eric may have other ideas for the portfolio itself... something that couldn't be explored properly in the material for F&P or LEoF and so held back on it until it could be treated completely - "I agree, it's pretty unclear at the moment, and I'm not sure I'd want to be definitive about it until some future project (I have nothing in mind) called for it. (In other words, leave room for further development.) --Eric" For myself, I'd say it should probably be given to Jergal. |
| GothicDan04-11-07, 11:22 AM | I like Old Sage's idea. Of course, it would really ring a bell with my idea of a totalitarian Etruscan-like deity of death, fate, time, doom, inevitability, and destiny (in part inspired by old-school Jergal), which I might work into a world of my own creation. With 'Saints' of various methodologies of 'meeting the end of your time' acting as go-betweens between mortals and The Keeper of Eternity... Cough. Plug. |
| Eatable_Dice04-11-07, 01:11 PM | In one of the "Volo“s Guide to the Dalelands" he mentioned a Bard in the northern dales that was the last whorshipper of Chronos, the god of time, who had an statue of a robed figure with a hourglass. Of course that verifying my own claim is left to Karsus. Cheers. |
| The Ubbergeek04-11-07, 01:20 PM | That would be Labelas Enoreth, an elven god, but he absorbed the obscure human deity Chronos. Pantheonic boundaries are just too fuzzy when it comes to who holds what for whom. Maybe humans started to venerate him around? |
| GothicDan04-11-07, 01:26 PM | While possible (there's no current holder of the time portfolio in the Faerunian pantheon, so AO might allow it), I find it immensely unlikely, merely because there would be no mention of Lebelas in any lore or religious doctrines that humans would have access to. Most likely. |
| Old Sage04-11-07, 08:37 PM | Chronos is [was] an alias of Labelas. Interestingly, I've also thought about the possibility that the Time portfolio may have ended up in the hands of Labelas... To which, Eric added:- "...depending on whether you see the human kingdom of Orva being a Netherese survivor state." Orva's status as a human kingdom is probable [see the 'Orva' details in the second paragraph of Labelas's entry], according to Eric, who said:- "I add the [probable] qualifier because I had to insert a little bit of Realmslore in Demihuman Deities in the write-up of Labelas Enoreth. (Look at the alias list.) This was to patch up the lack of a time portfolio among any human Realms god and because the only gods left to detail at the time were nonhuman gods. --Eric" |
| BrennonGoldeye04-12-07, 09:21 PM | Ok wait wait...<runs and gets pad and pen>...this thread is just chocked full of funsies....:D |
| Burningspear04-12-07, 09:36 PM | The Faerūnian pantheon does not have a specific deity of time any more. Mystryl was the Netherese deity of time, even though Amaunator believed he was actually the deity of time [see Amaunator's entry in F&A]. ok, i would go for Amaunator "claiming" the portofolio of time back as his so that that in turn will lead to "time" (read: Amaunator) reverting back to where "He" can once again be great and rule as it should be.. All Hail Amaunator, god of Sun, Law, Time, Bureaucracy and more... |
| Old Sage04-12-07, 10:10 PM | Amaunator never possessed the Time portfolio. He merely thought, for a period, that he was the 'deity of Time' thanks largely to an mispunctuation [of commas and periods] in a contract made between himself and another deity. The entry itself stated:- "...Amaunator shall be responsible for all time. any misrepresentation of his or his followers, If so deemed the fault of Amaunator..." This led to Amaunator assuming himself to be in charge of "all time." Though, he never actually made any official move to claim such a position as he was unwilling to act against Mystryl who was, at that time, the unofficial keeper of the Time portfolio. |

| GothicDan04-14-07, 06:52 AM | See, I hate smilies, other than a few simple ones. Hate them with a passion, and want them to all be removed from existence. |

| GothicDan04-14-07, 07:11 AM | Emoticons are a slightly superior label for a terrible thing! I should insert some emoticons into my C++ code... "The approximate value of the absorbed muon energy is 4 GeV. :D" |

| Old Sage04-14-07, 10:27 AM | Heck . . . I don't even like the term "smilies." Being married to a computer programmer means I have to call them "emoticons." :DI'm not that bad. Really. Though I do prefer the term... "emoticons." ;) |

| Chosen of Bane04-18-07, 02:51 PM | Back to the original post of this thread when the poster was wondering about gods of alignments. We do have one... Lolth is a deity of the Faerunian Pantheon with Chaos as one of her portfolios. |
| The Ubbergeek04-18-07, 03:08 PM | bane or Helm could have Law, for sure... One wonder how it is not in Helm's hands... |
| Karsus the Mad04-18-07, 03:42 PM | Lolth is a deity of the Faerunian Pantheon with Chaos as one of her portfolios. Except she's not a part of the Faerunian Pantheon;) She's the head of the drow pantheon. |
| BrennonGoldeye04-18-07, 04:38 PM | Oh gosh, no more fights about who is in which pantheon. :) |
| Karsus the Mad04-18-07, 05:00 PM | Oh gosh, no more fights about who is in which pantheon. :) Specifics my dear Bren, specifics. They make the worlds go 'round the gumtree stick;) |
| BrennonGoldeye04-18-07, 05:04 PM | I think it would be more than fair to say Lolth is in the Lolth pantheon. How's that? |
| Lord Karsus04-18-07, 05:44 PM | Lolth is a deity of the Faerunian Pantheon with Chaos as one of her portfolios. -Lolth is part of the Drow pantheon, not the Faerūnian Pantheon. That is not to say that Lolth does not exist in Realmspace (which she obviously does). It is generally accepted that the Faerūnian Pantheon consists of the Human deities of the Realms. EDIT: Nevermind. I beat myself to it. :P |
| The Ubbergeek04-18-07, 06:42 PM | Well, to be technical, the Faerunian Pantheon is not an united pantheon but the whole set of religious believes constitued by the slow syncretism of the faerunian pantheons over the ages, and somes of them are foreign, be it 'interloper' gods, gods from more distant pantheons of Abeir-Toril and gods adopted from/by non-humans. Lloth, not really being worshipped by much beside (the traditionalist majority of) the drow and, is a Drow pantheon goddess so in majority. It's a bit like the late believes of the Roman Empire, before the rise of Christianism. |
| Lord Karsus04-18-07, 08:27 PM | Well, to be technical, the Faerunian Pantheon is not an united pantheon but the whole set of religious believes constitued by the slow syncretism of the faerunian pantheons over the ages, and somes of them are foreign, be it 'interloper' gods, gods from more distant pantheons of Abeir-Toril and gods adopted from/by non-humans. -Which is the more roundabout way of saying that the Faerūnian Pantheon consists of the deities that Humans venerate. ;) |
| The Ubbergeek04-18-07, 08:39 PM | Note - I added also that somes of those gods are also worshipped by nonhumans. Like Tymora, Mystra, a few evil gods.... |
| Chosen of Bane04-18-07, 09:54 PM | See Faiths and Pantheons where Lolth is indeed listed under the Faerunian Pantheon, not just the drow pantheon. If it was up to me, she'd only be part of the drow pantheon but according to 3E she is a member of the Faerunian Pantheon. See index page 2 and her entry on page 40. I remember reading that some deities belong to more than one pantheon. Tymora is thought of as part of the halfling pantheon by many Hin, and I think I remember seeing gond belonging to both Faerunian and Gnome and Malar belonging to Faerunian and Orc. |
| GothicDan04-18-07, 10:03 PM | But virtually no humans actually worship Lolth; that's the difference. Many halflings worship Tymora. |
| Chosen of Bane04-18-07, 10:07 PM | I agree with you that Lolth should not be a member of the Faerunian Pantheon...but she is. I was just citing official rules, not how I thought it should be. Is Lolth currently answering the calls of a deity who no longer exists sort of like Shar and Ibrandul? Something like this could be the reason for her having enough non-drow followers to make he Faerunian Pantheon cut. |
| GothicDan04-18-07, 10:17 PM | I don't know. We've already heard from the authors just how 'canon' that book is in some regards (the 'complete list of deities').. ;) |
| Chosen of Bane04-18-07, 10:27 PM | True... The Nature Deities section is probably the worst error in that book. A ranger can only choose a "Nature" deity as his patron, yet there are deities not on the "Nature" list who have Rangers listed in their Worshippers section. |
| Burningspear04-18-07, 10:37 PM | bane or Helm could have Law, for sure... One wonder how it is not in Helm's hands... I think Helm has that perfect "What law, I am The Law" kinda effect...just like the famous Judge Dredd aka Sly Stallone... lol |
| The Ubbergeek04-18-07, 10:41 PM | I agree with you that Lolth should not be a member of the Faerunian Pantheon...but she is. I was just citing official rules, not how I thought it should be. Is Lolth currently answering the calls of a deity who no longer exists sort of like Shar and Ibrandul? Something like this could be the reason for her having enough non-drow followers to make he Faerunian Pantheon cut. She 'took in' parts of Moander's role, I heard.... |
| Karsus the Mad04-18-07, 11:34 PM | See Faiths and Pantheons where Lolth is indeed listed under the Faerunian Pantheon, not just the drow pantheon. That is not a listing of the Faerunian Pantheon. As the chapter title and description states, it's merely a listing of Major Deities (the exact same listing of deities between pages 236-255 of the FRCS to be exact), as even not all deities of the Faerunian Pantheon are listed under it, but rather in their own chapter entitled "Other Deities". It is also further noted under the Drow Pantheon that despite her cleric's claims, Lolth is not the only drow deity. Also, look at page 234 of the FRCS. Lolth isn't listed under the Faerunian Pantheon. She is however listed under the Drow Pantheon on page 236. Page 222 of Faiths and Pantheon also do not include her in that books listing of the Faerunian Pantheon. She's also depicted in the Drow Pantheon artwork. She's listed under the "major" deities section likely due to her popularity with players and nothing more:) |
| Chosen of Bane04-19-07, 08:12 AM | Interesting... I wonder why they didn't include Moradin or Corellon in the "Major Deity" list. I'm sure many more players have them as a patron than Lolth. |
| theAlastorian04-19-07, 08:30 AM | I don't think it's a matter of having her as a patron Deity for their character. I see it more as 'holy crud! Drow! And other things to do with Drow!' You know, that kind of w*nk. |
| Lord Karsus04-19-07, 09:20 AM | I don't think it's a matter of having her as a patron Deity for their character. I see it more as 'holy crud! Drow! And other things to do with Drow!' I knew about the "Major Deities" part, but I didn't realize all that other stuff, really. |
| ShadezofDis04-19-07, 10:23 AM | I think the Realmsian dieties/cosmology issue is much like computer software these days, you need to wait for them to work the bugs out of the system. I think the timeline for this is a bit longer for WotC since they don't release "patches" ;) Or maybe I'm just cynical :D |
| Karsus the Mad04-19-07, 10:28 AM | Interesting... I wonder why they didn't include Moradin or Corellon in the "Major Deity" list. I'm sure many more players have them as a patron than Lolth. To be honest I can't fathom why either, tho' I agree with theAlastorian:P |
| Boda04-19-07, 11:45 AM | Who are the gods of other art forms but music?Like sculpture, painting, etc? There's gods for certain crafts(metalworking, farming) but not for others(fishing, woodcarving, weaving, alchemy)? The god of Anger? And other emotions(bane-hate, sune-love)? |
| Chosen of Bane04-19-07, 11:51 AM | Borem of the Boiling mud was the god of Anger but Bane killed him. So I always assume Bane somehow rolled it into his Hate portfolio. After all, a wise green muppet once told us "Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate..." Bane has Hate and Fear, he might as well have Anger. |
| Karsus the Mad04-19-07, 11:58 AM | I would assume any craft that's not specifically mentioned in another deities portfolio would by default fall under Gond's Craft portfolio. |
| Lord Karsus04-19-07, 06:30 PM | -Don't forget good ol' Finder Wyvernspur, what, with the art and everything. |
| Boda04-20-07, 07:42 AM | Borem of the Boiling mud was the god of Anger but Bane killed him. So I always assume Bane somehow rolled it into his Hate portfolio. After all, a wise green muppet once told us "Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate..." Bane has Hate and Fear, he might as well have Anger. So the god of fear, hate, anger, strife is lawful?! And Tyranny(anger and control often hedbut)?! |
| Chosen of Bane04-20-07, 08:19 AM | Bane is not the God of Strife. That was a wizards typo. Cyric has the portfolio of Strife. And other than Strife, which of the portfolios that you listed are not consistent with a Lawful deity? |
| ShadezofDis04-20-07, 10:33 AM | So the god of fear, hate, anger, strife is lawful?! And Tyranny(anger and control often hedbut)?! It's not a white hot uncontrollable rage, it's a cold, calculating hatred which is fuled by almost overwhelming anger. It's only barely kept in check by FR's greatest Tyrant. Further, it's Bane's achilles heel, most of the time he's in complete control, but occationally he'll fly off the handle and that's when it's time to try and beat him. |
| King_Neckchopper04-20-07, 03:42 PM | I think the Realms needs a diety of physical prowess, sort of like Apollo. I know that some dieties have the srtenght portfolio, but Im talking about honing you the body to physical excellence. |

I know that some dieties have the srtenght portfolio, but Im talking about honing you the body to physical excellence. Lathander's vitality, self-perfection, and athletics aspects of his portfolio. |
| MarkusTay6304-20-07, 05:47 PM | But Lathander is too wishy washy. I had this problem when I started my current FR campaign - My son was going to run a Cleric, and he read the whole section in the PH on Clerics and made his character. Problem was, he picked KORD straight out of the book. I told him Kord wasn't available in the Realms, which of course lead to a long-winded discussion of why a god doesn't have power on a certain world. Still not satisfied with my explanation, he looked through the list of gods in FR and didn't like ANY of them. The spheres he had access to with Kord couldn't be duplicated with any FR deity! Bummer - I now have Kord in my realms. |
| Lord Karsus04-20-07, 09:20 PM | Bummer - I now have Kord in my realms. -Come on. You're the DM. Have some stiff upper lip! -Here's an interesting idea. How about Siamorphe being a deity concerned with physical prowess and such. Before anyone laughts, it is theoretically plausible. Siamorphe represents nobility, and the right for those who are superior to rule. Theoretically, there could be some some Clerics of Siamorphe who have a sort of Hitlerian outlook- however, replace 'Aryan' with 'Noble', or whatever appropriate word. Not only must nobles rule, but they must also be physically and mentally superior to the pesants they rule over. |
| The Ubbergeek04-20-07, 09:27 PM | Could make an interesting LE heresy.... |
| Lord Karsus04-20-07, 09:31 PM | -I was thinking that myself, though it doesn't neccessarily have to be LE. It could be LN, so long as, you know, those priests and priestess' don't go running around, abusing their power. |

He has one of the largest, most active churches in Faerun, tons of Paladins and Crusaders, he organized the Dawn Cataclysm and may be planning another one, he personally send down a war-avatar to destroy Sammaster, he is the deity of athletics and youth... I don't get it. Is it because he's attractive and blond? |
| Lord Karsus04-21-07, 07:56 PM | I don't get it. Is it because he's attractive and blond? -And the fact that he likes pink. ;) 9: Transmute Crotch to Lava -That one sounds quite potent. |
| King_Neckchopper04-24-07, 11:42 AM | Forget about Lathander, he is like the sun god man. I think Faerun needs a straight up god of physical prowess, like Kord. I just feel like so many people in the realms call upon physical strength, a deity who took up this sort of porfolio would be a greater deity. |
| Sliced_Mustard04-24-07, 02:29 PM | personally, I like there to be open portfolios that have not been claimed by the established pantheon (for whatever reasons). it gives quasi-gods and others hopeful to rise to godhood something to shoot for. is there a need for a god of strength or physical prowess? not really, but leaving it open gives someone like Lathander a tool to work with when sponsoring someone ready to ascend to demigod status. also, I would imagine there's got to be some sort of system in place regulating portfolios (beyond the basic "no two gods of greater than demigod status can hold the same portfolio within a pantheon" rule). While some gods may choose to pick up portfolios that suit their personality, others less proud may want to grab any portfolio they can in hopes of increasing their status. Mask is the god of thieves and assassins, but with the loss of the intrigue portfolio to Cyric, why wouldn't he take up some less savory portfolios to pad his divine rank? why not god of thieves, assassins, privvy cleaners, backhair shavers, and other "low" professions?? is there not enough need for a diety amongst those who must shave the backhair of others? if it was my job to clean privvy after privvy in a midieval type society, I'd certainly pray alot!! and it'd be nice if there was a god specifically to pray to about that because I don't think Tyr would be interested in the injustices of that profession.....for example. :raincloud so what prevents there from being a portfolio for everything else not currently covered? how do new portfolios get introduced into a pantheon? |

The "sun" is not a part of his portfolio if you read his entry. Spring, dawn, birth, renewal, creativity, youth, vitality, self-perfection, and athletics are Lathander's Portfolios. Amaunator was the Sun God...he's dead. |

| MarkusTay6304-25-07, 06:46 PM | Yes! We need Dionysius (Bachus)! We need Bachaenellian revelries, with crazy naked women running through the wilderness, tearing men to pieces... | Chosen of Bane04-25-07, 07:01 PM | Yes! We need Dionysius (Bachus)! Friar Dugald of Damara, who is a member of King Gareth Dragonsbane's adventuring party is listed in 2nd Edition sources as a priest of Dionysius if I remember correctly. But then again Salvatore wrote that source book and he seldom cares about realms continuity. (Note: Althought that may sound harsh, I don't mean it as a criticism of Salvatore, it is simply fact. His use of names, terminology, certain creatures, and certainly dates often contradict with other established lore...but then again you can get away with that when you sell as well as he does) |

| BadCatMan04-25-07, 08:45 PM | Actually, Friar Dugald and the "Order Of St Dionysus" were introduced in the Bloodstone Lands adventures, which I heard were only tacked onto the Realms, hence the wacky gods and other stuff. Salvatore had little choice but to go with it. Faiths & Avatars retcons St Dionysus as a saint of Ilmater. For my game, I placed St Dionysus in Chessenta, as a hard-drinking barroom-brawling Ilmateri monk/cleric fighting for the peasants, now the local; patron of wine, theatre and peasants. Then I made the Order Of St Dionysus as a local hero-cult - group of Ilmateri Drunken Masters. :D |

| Lord Karsus04-27-07, 10:34 PM | I've always been annoyed that the egyptian pantheon made it into faerun, and not the Norse (can anyone say Thor vs Talos lightning bolt smackdown?) -Tyr was originally from the Norse Pantheon. |

| Amon Hok04-29-07, 03:53 PM | I think Sharess fills the role of the wine god well. She is the goddess of Pleasure and i think the majority of the time when people are drunk they are having a good time (till the next day). She is a carefree goddess who encourages her followers to experiance everything for the sensations and pleasures it could bring. As for the dawn god he is one of my least fav deities. I have broken up his portfolio and gave a goddess i made childbirth, pregnancy, fertility and children. I (though i admit having not read all Forgotten relam novels) have never heard a woman or midwife say pray to lathander for a good birth. it seems strange to me that a male god would be chosen to be a birth god a role typically given to women. | GothicDan04-29-07, 04:01 PM | Lathander played the male role of birth - dawn, light, giving vitality to soil and seeds in order that they may grow. It was Chauntea who most typically represented the female role. That's largely why they're "a couple." |
| XHereticX04-29-07, 06:22 PM | What about a deity of humans? Like Zarus from core/greyhawk. |
| Lord Karsus04-29-07, 10:53 PM | What about a deity of humans? Like Zarus from core/greyhawk. -If you can explain how that would work, then go right ahead. But, it wouldn't work...There's too much diversity. ;) |
| Razz04-30-07, 07:32 AM | I dunno if this was mentioned before but--- Why doesn't the Realms have a deity of Time? At least in the Faerunian Pantheon, that is. I know the elves have Labelas Enoreth and Grumbar has, for some odd reason, both the time portfolio and the domain. But they seem more like they represent time rather than control or truly enmesh with Time itself and overseers all its paths in Realmspace. I remember reading Mystra was in charge of Time, but she doesn't really concern herself with it other than making sure people don't screw with Toril's history too much. |

| Old Sage04-30-07, 11:31 AM | LK is correct. Razz, see my earlier replies here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12057802&postcount=80), here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12064290&postcount=85), and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12078852&postcount=88). |
| BrennonGoldeye05-01-07, 09:56 PM | ...giggle... |
| Old Sage05-01-07, 10:05 PM | What was that giggling in the corner? Who? Ah. ;) |
| BrennonGoldeye05-01-07, 10:23 PM | Just pointing out a portfolio not claimed as far as I know.;) |
| GothicDan05-02-07, 01:54 PM | I am the god of time! |
| Old Sage05-02-07, 08:42 PM | Can I be the god of anti-time? :P |
| GothicDan05-02-07, 08:47 PM | Yes, but when would you have existed!? |
| Old Sage05-02-07, 09:13 PM | I was born in the future and died of worshipper neglect in the past. |
| Burningspear05-02-07, 09:31 PM | anyway... I am trying to think of an serious interesting concept for a god/ goddes not yet represented in the Pantheon, and has some nice portfolio's to boot, hmmz. :plotting: |
| Old Sage05-02-07, 10:01 PM | What exactly are you looking for? Provide us with some details and we may be able to put something together... |
| Burningspear05-02-07, 10:24 PM | -Ambition (to see Unther back in its powerplace it was before the death of Gilgeam) -Awareness (of the situation and to learn from mistakes) -Bureaucracies (from Amaunator) -Bureaucrats (see above) -Corruption (as the priesthood was as corrupt as can be) -Decadence (his person and priesthood was sinking into this) -Geography (Unther, the land and the people as a individual entity) -Land (see above) -Preservation (preservation of the Identity of Unther and the land as above) This little list makes me think of a combination of Amaunator and Gilgeam in one :plotting: It's not a complete list of what the 2 gods were about but its a start.. and i am thinking about a group of Ur-Priests in Unther trying to blow new life into Gilgeam by also giving him powers that are not in use because Amaunator is still dead. Something like that :tie: |
| Lord Karsus05-03-07, 09:10 AM | -Ambition (to see Unther back in its powerplace it was before the death of Gilgeam) -Awareness (of the situation and to learn from mistakes) -Bureaucracies (from Amaunator) -Bureaucrats (see above) -Corruption (as the priesthood was as corrupt as can be) -Decadence (his person and priesthood was sinking into this) -Geography (Unther, the land and the people as a individual entity) -Land (see above) -Preservation (preservation of the Identity of Unther and the land as above) -All this in one deity, eh? Seems very...Palpatine. :emp: -Seem to me like what you want here is some kind of city patron deity, who is very much into politics. Maybe something akin to the Celestial Emperor, only not so much, and of course, tailored to the specific city-state? |
| The Ubbergeek05-03-07, 01:43 PM | Would make an interesting plot.... A God-Lord of Waterdeep? |
| GothicDan05-03-07, 01:44 PM | Khelben? I could see Balduran becoming a local demigod of Baldur's Gate, too. And the Simbul, if she ever died and was raised, could become a local goddess of Aglarond. I'm big into hero cults and local deities. |
| Chosen of Bane05-03-07, 04:08 PM | ... -Corruption (as the priesthood was as corrupt as can be)... Doesn't Gargauth have this? If not, he should. |
| The Ubbergeek05-03-07, 04:17 PM | Well, he was a divinified devil, so.... logical. Moander had it, I think. |
| Lord Karsus05-03-07, 05:39 PM | -Finder has it now, as the "Corruption of Stagnant Art" thing. |
