| Mad Mage07-27-07, 06:27 PM | what are some good, non-standard elven deities for a bladesinger? Would you mind defining "non-standard"? |
| BreegJac1707-27-07, 07:01 PM | Do you mean non-war or non-magic deities?? |
| BelainDefenderofJerusalem07-27-07, 08:31 PM | what i mean by not standard is not in the mainstream, not commonly known deities. |
| Elven Avenger07-27-07, 08:49 PM | Tethrin Veralde is the Demi-God of Bladesingers, he is not standard and not much used. |
| BelainDefenderofJerusalem07-27-07, 09:34 PM | wheres he from? ive never heard of him before |
| GothicDan07-27-07, 09:38 PM | My vote's with Tethrin. But I envision a lot of the Demigods as being almost more like 'Big Brothers' or Saints of the Seldarine - much older, experienced siblings and cousins. Since there's no evidence of the Elves ever having cleaved to the idea of specific Patron Deities (except generally having more frequent worship of those deities that physically or metaphysically created each subrace), I think such using one of these Demigods as your SOLE Patron Deity (in the 3E terminology, which I'm advocating against) would feel a little bit weird. For instance, almost all of the Bladesinger NPCs I've ever made almost always included Tethrin and Corellon Larethian together in their list of 'ffavored deities,' usually with a few others as well. |
| BelainDefenderofJerusalem07-27-07, 09:48 PM | i never thought of that, thanks gothicdan! is there anymore info on tethrin? |
| Mad Mage07-27-07, 11:51 PM | Tethrin Veralde 's most recent info can be found in Dragon Magazine #236. For your information, I do not possess this information myself, and I may be at risk of penalties from administration of this board for divulging it. My advice: See if you can order a back issue of Dragon #236 through Paizo's website. Edit: Gotta warn you, according to the DragonDex, said article is also 2nd Edition/AD&D, so it may take some effort to translate to 3.X standards. Whether said deity is intended to exist in the 3.X Forgotten Realms cosmology is also debatable. |
| Green Elven Vampire07-28-07, 12:15 AM | Okay.. you knew this was coming! I'd say Erevan Ilesere, only cause he is a elven deity of Rogues, change. and chaos!! I believe he has Half elven rogues as part of his folio in 2ED. The reason being that Erevan is a elven god who gets absolutely no recognition at all in the FR!! Are you asking for core? I would imagine that Erevan is less known outside of FR!!! |

| Suin Bahhar07-28-07, 09:22 AM | Eilistraei (spelling) could surely find bladesinging the traditional blending of swordplay and magic beautiful. But a real non mainstream diety for bladesingers would be an evil god. Within the seldarine Shevarash comes close to evilness with his vengance and hatred of drow. Selvatarm would appreciate any combatstyle with effictiveness and grace. Nonelven gods could fit too, like Redknight for strategy, Tempus, for prowess on the battlefield, Liira, for song and dance, etc. More evil choices are Garagos, Jergal, Cyric... Ah, a madman illusionist bladesinger of Cyric sounds very intriguing. |
| GothicDan07-30-07, 12:13 AM | Bladesinging is a pretty exclusively Elven art. This means that said Elf would have been raised among the Elven culture. Having a non-Seldarine patron is just about absurd. (Then again, as I said, having ANY single patron for an Elf raised in traditional Tel'Quessir culture, unless you're a Cleric, seems absurd.) |
| The_Shaman07-30-07, 10:42 AM | what are some good, non-standard elven deities for a bladesinger? Akadi. A deity of winds, air and to a degree travel might definitely fit a wandering bladesinger, and their style can be considered as a homage to the goddess as well - light-footed, intricate, yet deadly. |
| Green Elven Vampire07-30-07, 11:36 AM | Uhhhhh, GEV, you know we're talking about a candidate deity for bladesingers, right? Yes, thought I may have ranted in no order. Any elven deity could be a good candidate for a bladesinger. You can play a Rogue/Wizard/Bladesinger or Bard/Wizard/Bladesinger, or any combo you'd like. Just pick the elven deity that matches your classes and go from there. Ranger = Rillifane Rallathil or Solonor Thelandira Rogue = Erevan Ilesere Wizard/fighter = Corellon Larethian etc... etc... etc... |

Redknight, Tempus, Liira are all human brutes that have no place in elven culture, with the exception of Liira, but like I said, no elf would worship a non elven deity and still be a bladesinger. EVIL CHOICES??? Do you even know what a bladesinger is my friend? *sigh* A madman, illusionist bladesinger of Cyric is about the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Why not just give him a Moonblade as well and have him ride around on a My Little Pony while you're at it. |
| Suin Bahhar07-30-07, 12:47 PM | While the notion of a bladesinger following a non Seldarine god is quite extreme and rare, I do think the idea has merit as storypotential. The reactions you guys show here make the idea even better in my view. I Imagine my players being caught offguard when I introduce an elven bladesinger of Cyric to them. This blasphemous atrocity of all things El'tael hold dear, sowing discord and strife in the area, makes a great villaintype character. Maybe not what the OP was after but interesting nonetheless. I know bladesingers are like the knightly elite policeforce of Elven settlements. A settlement of Elves with lots of contact with humans (like the Tangled Trees) would sure take note of the dieties the humans worship. If an evil bladesinger with a thing for illusions and manipulation chose a patron god he could do little better than choose Cyric. The Seldarine doesn't give him the room to but his assets to use. Cyric will gladly whisper in this bladesingers demented reveries of the power the ways of Cyric will lead him to. Most bladesingers will nicely follow Corellon though. |

I don't think you understand.... There are NO evil bladesingers who worship outside the Seldarine and never could be an evil bladesinger outside the teaching of the Seldarine. Do some reading! |
| Suin Bahhar07-30-07, 05:16 PM | I disagree. |
| Dimensional_Drifter07-30-07, 05:28 PM | Man... this arguement can only get worse. Wondering if some forget that there are certain people on these boards you shouldn't initiate a debate regarding elves. Although I am inclined to agree that no Bladesinger would ever turn away from elven culture and religion. Bladesingers are in every sense exclusively elven. |
| Green Elven Vampire07-30-07, 06:01 PM | I disagree. Then I guess you've never read a single bit of information on Bladesingers!! That's very plain to me. Now, even though you're entitled to your opinion, I must add that your opinion is wrong if you seriously think Bladesingers can be evil cyric worshipers. May I ask what gives you this notion? What source books or articles lead you to believe this? Seriously, next thing you know Queen Amlaruil Moonflower will marry a Nalfeshnee and Kobolds will weild Moonblades while Drow will bake cookies for Celestials!!! |
| Kessalin Talira07-30-07, 06:26 PM | I, too, disagree with the idea that there could never be an evil bladesinger. Any of the more xenophobic families could easily produce an evil aligned elf, and most likely have. Digging back through history a little, who's to say there weren't bladesingers who were also devoted members of the Starym family, or even the Dlardrageths? An evil bladesinger is entirely possible, when it's an elf that shares the same deep-seated hatred of other races that groups like the Daemonfey and the Eldreth Veluuthra have. It's the Cyricist bladesinger that's stretching it a bit. Remember, alignment only matters if you're a cleric. You could be Neutral Evil, an elf, a bladesinger, a wanted murderer in a half-dozen cities up and down the Sword Coast, and still be a devout worshipper of Corellon, because he represents the elven ideal that you strive to uphold and defend (often violently) as a bladesinger. |
| GothicDan07-30-07, 06:31 PM | There's nothing at all inherently against Evil Bladesingers, GEV. It's a cultural practice, NOT an alignment-based one. In Hellgate Keep, they specifically HAD Dlardrageth Bladesingers. |
| Dimensional_Drifter07-30-07, 07:45 PM | Bladesingers. Elven Deities only yes. Non-Evil necessarily? No. |
| Suin Bahhar07-30-07, 08:39 PM | These Dlardrageth El'teal were/are Corellon worshippers? |
| GothicDan07-30-07, 08:58 PM | I don't think they worshiped Corellon. The Dlardrageths largely turned away from the Seldarine (as opposed to the Eldreth Veluuthra, who still think they're supporting the Seldarine). |
| Calmar07-30-07, 10:45 PM | wheres he from? ive never heard of him before Then he's right the guy you were looking for. :D |

Yes, that's my point precisely! I'm not saying a bladesinger can never be evil (although he/she may not think they are evil), but to be a evil worshiper of a non elven deity is ludicrous in FR. Kymil Nimisin (sp) is a grand example of an evil elf who has no understanding that he commits evil acts, and believes that he is good and proper. Sorry if I miscommunicated my last post concerning my point. Even if you are evil, you're still an elf, and elven bladesingers would not follow the dogma of a evil deity, especially a human or monstrous deity. |
| Suin Bahhar08-01-07, 10:10 AM | Power corrupts. The promiss of power too. Even elven minds can become unstable. Dark elves turned to elder elemental evils like Ghaunadar (who wasn't initially part of the Seldarine or Dark Seldarine). A corrupted bladesinger could fall away from Corellon and embrace the Dark Sun. The conditions for this happening could be staged by insidious members of Cyric's clergy. Not an easy task though. And if unmasked the bladesinger would be exiled or worse. The power gained from Cyric should be great indeed. |
| GothicDan08-01-07, 07:42 PM | I would never allow a Bladesinger of a member of the non-Seldarine or non-Dark Seldarine. If they were to fall, most likely they would embrace one of the Dark Seldarine. They have no tradition of even educating their people in the ways of the dark Faerunian gods. |

Why again would a bladesinger, someone so much a part of elven tradition want to go running to Cyric? Cyric of all evil deities makes little sense for a bladesinger. Even a fallen bladesinger wouldn't throw away all culture and tradition to embrace such a set of beliefs as those of the Cyricists. |
| saywar08-03-07, 11:32 AM | excuse me guys but, you all seem to have fogotten that their are also half elf bladesingers' and the novel bladesinger was based on a exile half elf bladesinger. could he not chose a none elven deitie. |
| Green Elven Vampire08-03-07, 11:55 PM | excuse me guys but, you all seem to have fogotten that their are also half elf bladesingers' and the novel bladesinger was based on a exile half elf bladesinger. could he not chose a none elven deitie. Yeah, didn't even wanna read that book once I heard it was a half elf. I love half elves, but only elves can be Bladesingers. Unless they flipped the entire history on end just recently. |
| GothicDan08-04-07, 12:18 AM | Same here. The thought of a Half-elf being taught Bladesong is sickening. |
| Suin Bahhar08-04-07, 10:09 AM | Yeah I read Bladesinger too. The book was quite shortcoming, but it had several good bits and I do recommend the read. The half-elf student managed to learn the basics of bladesinging quite well. He didn't show to be overly religious though. And the drama! Oh the drama! Taen, the main character, is a vey moody halfelf who blames only himself for failing his bladesinger duty on his very first graduationday! If an evil elf would learn the art of the El'teal and for some reason would get expelled or exiled to human lands he could come acros the human dieties. With enough hatred for his own kin exiling him could drive him to come to worship of some evil diety who grants easy acces to power. A quote like: "Arvandor be damned! I can strike back at the hearts of my tormentors with the power of a black sun, and I will!" Admit it. You would love to hate a charcter like that! The feeling of smiting this sick mind to the supreme throne of Cyric for eternal damnation could be sweet indeed. |
| GothicDan08-04-07, 06:32 PM | That's also the type of character I'd probably stare at and then laugh at if my player ever presented it to me. Heavy-handed, me? Never. But oddly enough, my dedication to the canon of a world and what I feel is "best" for a game makes me a really popular DM in my school. So, eh. Some people want to be told no, just like teenagers often 'crave' structure. ;) |
