| Sylock10-13-07, 12:47 PM | I've went through most of the posts / threads here that list out all the gods in the FR. I'm looking for one that has as it's responsibilty the protection of children. Is there such? Thanks for your help and time. |
| Lord Karsus10-13-07, 03:46 PM | -I'd say that Torm would be a front runner, as would Lathander, Chauntea, and Helm. Note that I am only using Human deities. A few demihuman deities would fit well too. |
| goldomark10-13-07, 03:52 PM | Nephthys, of the Mulhorand pantheon, has the protection of children in her portfolio. Hathor, of the same pantheon, has childbirth and motherhood in her portfolio, its close to child protection. Isis, also mulhorandi, has marriage in her portfoilio. Shiallia, a deity of the north, has child birth and fertily in her portfoilio. |
| Sylock10-13-07, 03:55 PM | Thanks Karsus. I was hoping there was one that did 'just children' or some sort. I'm kind of playing around with a character idea where the character isn't exactly a nice guy (that character already exists) but then starts hunting those who have preyed on children (after he recently viewed something terrible happening). Being a PC he's got some wealth and is going to be setting up an 'orphanage/school/temple' in a town where he has 'saved/rescued' dozens of children. Torm and Lathander are worried about things other than children. I'm probably on a wild goose chase though eh? How about a god from Greyhawk, or a dead diety, or something else entirely, that would be a watcher / protector of just children? Thanks for your time and help! |
| Sylock10-13-07, 03:57 PM | Goldomark, Nephthys with his/her "protection of children in her portfolio" sounds like what I need/want. I'll do some searching to see if I can get some info on her online, but if you have any links, feel free to pass them along. THANK YOU! |

| goldomark10-13-07, 06:17 PM | Sylock, you'll find more info on Nephthys, a intermediate CG goddess, in 3e Faiths and Pantheons and 2e Powers and Pantheons. But I don't have any links for you. For 4$, you can download a PDF version of PP at www.paizo.com. Happy to help you. |
| Storm_Silverhand10-13-07, 07:22 PM | Heya, Helm apparently has a soft spot for children, so I'm almost certain the role of "protector of children" is occupied by him... Especially given he's already the god of Guardians. |
| goldomark10-13-07, 07:32 PM | Just some thoughts. Nephthys, Isis and Hathor could merge into one goddess, with all the remaking in 4e's FR. A goddess of marriage, motherhood, childbirth and protection of children. Notice love isn't there, its still Sune thing :D . Lets call this triad Nesisthor :D . It would save Isis form death, she has magic in her portfolio, reduce the number of gods and produce a goddess that fills a empty nich in the Realms. I'm shure all those housewifes-gamers out there would love to be a cleric of Nesisthor. OK this was REALLY stupid, but I couldn't resist  . |
| Zanan10-14-07, 04:21 AM | Well, The Gossamer Plain describes Tyr as being a deity who looks after (even) the still unborn "childs"! One of his messengers, an astral deva tries to save the souls / bodies of a deathbound marilith' as well as the child of a well-known FR alu-fiend. |

Actually, I'd say children and young people are one of the things Lathander is most instested in. His influence over beginnings (and thus youth) is so strong that, as F&P says, even those who do not worship him often say a prayer when starting something new. Chauntea's nurturing aspect would make her another of my prime picks, and most other deities that stress mercy, protection, or the like - such as Ilmater or Selune - probably have more than their share of orphanages. |
| Aldii10-14-07, 12:19 PM | Ilmater. If i remember correct Ilmater takes great care to defend child and takes enormous offense against those that would dare to hurt a child. |
| jamesnero10-14-07, 03:10 PM | According to champions of valor page 25 both selune and the triad as whole oftena re very active in the welfare of children. Granted not in their collective portfolios but the realities of faerun seem to make it so. |
| Suin Bahhar10-14-07, 06:46 PM | I could see Liira protect the innocense (sp.?) of children. |
| Noxweather10-19-07, 09:21 PM | Ilmater. suffer the little children |
| Spelldancer10-21-07, 03:47 PM | I would think any god that grants access to the Family domain would be a good protector of children. These include Eldath, Isis, Lliira, and Hathor. Lathander and Selune are two that I would perhaps add to that list. Selune as the patron of women, and Lathander as the god of birth |
