Desert Druid [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-18-07, 04:26 PM A member of my roleplaying group wants to create a desert based druid but doesn't know which deity would be the most appropriate. I suggested Set as a possibility, but he wants the character to originate from Calimsham. Any help would be appreciated. I thought of Talos, but he really wants his character to be Neutral or Neutral Good.

How about Silvanus? Granted, he doesn't scream 'desert' at first glance, but a god of nature is probably even more important in the sandy wastes. Emphasis his rule over oases, rivers, desert wildlife, etc. and maybe use some of the material from Sandstorm (if either of you have it) to give the druid a more desert feel.

Alternatively, what about Kossuth?

06-18-07, 11:39 PM There is no reason you can't pick any Nature Deity of a desert druid. Silvanus is the god of wild nature, for example, not just 'temperate woldlands' nature.

You might also want to consider King of the Desert from MotW.

06-19-07, 06:36 AM Sun, fire, or air deities are imo a good way to start. Mind you, Lathander and deserts is a strange fit, but it could happen. Kossuth or Akadi would probably work better, though. Nature or animal deities (possibly Nobanion) are another option.

The Mulhorandi deities, with their animalistic links, may also be fitting for a druid if you can justify Mulan missionaries that far west.

That was my first reaction, Akadi might fit as well, it is windy down there. Or perhaps Selune, as many desert animals are nocturnal

06-20-07, 08:37 AM In keeping with the elemental concept, I guess Istisha and Grumbar are options as well. (I was thinking Istisha, since any desert dwelling creature would value water above all things.) I do not like the fact that these two deities do not interact with their clergy/druids much.

06-20-07, 01:03 PM i would think that the worship of any of the nature dieties would be extreremly fervent in the desert... give thanks for every blessing that the desert gives you to survive

maybe silvanus but under a different name?

06-20-07, 02:46 PM hmmm. ilmater would be fitting i think. at least he stands for a good deal of the daily toil there. concerning the nomadic lifestyle of many desert people shaundakul could come in handy, too.

06-20-07, 10:39 PM i dont think toil is what it is..... i would think that a druid would be more inclined to support the life that does exist and would be in touch with the hardships of desert life.... the danger of even just being in the sun all the way down to the creepy crawly things under any given rock ... a nuetral nature god i think is the only way to go....
