| johnkretzer11-28-07, 02:08 AM | I was reading the GHotR recently and I got this theory when reading about the Spawn Wars. A little background pretty much the dwarves were involved in a very long and bloody civil war. They turned to using Deep Spawns to make more dwarven troops to fight the war. Then I was thinking what if Moradin didn't really grant this blessing...what if the dwarven elders decide that they had to take drastic measure to ensure the survival of the dwarven race. So they feed certain dwarf infants to a deepspawn...yeah I know it is unlikely but just the image of a dwarven mother feeding her child to a deepspawn and then raising the new twins...like I said it is a creepy story. |

Ohh...for the love of Toril!! John, don't give the designers ideas like this it'll end up in 4e. :nonono: |
| Stigger11-28-07, 02:21 AM | That deepspawn thing had to be one of the most bizarre things I'd yet read actually... one that I promptly ignored as ever having happened. |
| johnkretzer11-28-07, 02:24 AM | That deepspawn thing had to be one of the most bizarre things I'd yet read actually... one that I promptly ignored as ever having happened. Yeah I know. Though I liked the deep spawn as a creature very much...and any adventure I have ever ran or played in that featured a deep spawn were awesome. |
| johnkretzer11-28-07, 02:26 AM | Ohh...for the love of Toril!! John, don't give the designers ideas like this it'll end up in 4e. :nonono: Who said that this isn't already been included into 4th...they might have just added the Spawn Wars to give it precedence(sorta like the Orc-Dwarf botherly love city. |
| Green Elven Vampire11-28-07, 03:08 AM | That deepspawn thing had to be one of the most bizarre things I'd yet read actually... one that I promptly ignored as ever having happened. Same here, same here. I just completely ignore that in my campaigns. |

Well, when you put it that way, it makes me even more glad that I'm not buying 4e.:yuck: I propose a toast to the many wonderful parts of the Realms that will never get a 3e update. Let's drink to Kara-Tur, Maztica, Al Qadim, The Old Empires, The Lands of Intriue, Chult, The Frozen North, The Hordelands, The Island Kingdoms, and any where else that was...Forgotten.:pint: |
| msatran11-28-07, 03:16 AM | That's not why they put in the Spawnwars. What has everyone been clamoring for? An FR MMORPG. Now they can make one, and you can respawn as many times as you wish with all your gear at the site of your last battle, just like in other MMORPGS. And because it takes place so far in the past, in the end, they run a big collapse the caverns plot and the thing ends. |
| johnkretzer11-28-07, 03:25 AM | I would like to go on the record of not advocating the above mentioned idea. It just when I think about deep spawns I get this creepy Invasion of Body Snatchers ideas...like the PCs entering a village and two little kids running up to them begging for help... Anyway yes I agree the Spawn Wars are silly and hopefuly it isn't set up for my scenario. |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 03:29 AM | As someone who plays Dwarves more often than not (When I'm not playing my Red Wizard), I take offense to this whole thread. Spreading such malicious lies about Orcs and Dwarves living together and feeding their infants to Deepspawn. How could you. What have dwarves ever done to you. |

Spreading such malicious lies about Orcs and Dwarves living together and feeding their infants to Deepspawn. How could you. What have dwarves ever done to you. Well when I was a child they used to make fun of me...;) And then dwarves killed my parents....;) And the the shot my dog...;) |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 03:53 AM | Well if you went around saying dwarves and orcs got along I don't blame them one bit. Only thing worse would be to say that the pansy pointy eared leaf eatin tree huggers are just as good as dwarves. Orcs and dwarves living together indeed. This aint Zahkhara you know! And I'll thank you not to mention the Thunder Blessing either. They jsut had to have dwarven wizards. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go over here, grumble and gnash my teeth whilst sharpening my waraxe and keeping an eye on you. You're on the list buddy. Yeah you thought Colbert was the only one to have one didn't you. |
| johnkretzer11-28-07, 04:04 AM | You know the Spawn Wars also explain why all dwarves look the same too...they are all descended from the same spawns...;) |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 04:23 AM | Oh now see....you just wait. You're gonna come home one night and find a whole bunch of dwarves waiting to have a nice long talk with you! And I hope you're not to fond of your kitchenware either. YOu know how dwarves are in kitchens. Just ask Bilbo |
| Stigger11-28-07, 04:26 AM | Feh, just carry around a +10 Bar of Floral-Power Soap, Dwarfbane and you'll be fine... :P :D |
| BadCatMan11-28-07, 07:00 AM | Just so you know, the Spawn Wars and the whole Dwarf-Deepspawn thing appeared at least as far back as Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide To The Underdark by Eric L Boyd, 2nd edition, 1999. In fact, I think the Deepspawn first appeared in Ed Greenwood's Dwarves Deep, 1990. It's not part of the whole GHotR/4e roll-in. |

In fact, I think the Deepspawn first appeared in Ed Greenwood's Dwarves Deep, 1990. AHA!! See I knew it couldn't be true if he was involved. ITs a conspiracy I tell you. A conspiracy of lies to defame the good names of the good upstanding dwarves all over. Thats it' we're hiring lawyers now. |

For someone who loves Dwarves so very much, it's funny that you have an Evereskan Tombguardian as your avatar!! |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 02:33 PM | For someone who loves Dwarves so very much, it's funny that you have an Evereskan Tombguardian as your avatar!! Is that what that is? Huh, learn something new everyday. It was just something that caught my eye when I was flipping through the avatars trying to find a flumph. Either that or I'm indisguise. Meddle not in the affairs of dwarves for we are grumpy and have sharp axes. |
| GothicDan11-28-07, 02:39 PM | You're definitely behaving in a more gnomish fashion than dwarven one. |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 02:48 PM | *blinks* Thats it, I'm gonna hack your legs off so we can have a nice eye to eye talk about proper ettiquette. |
| Stigger11-28-07, 03:37 PM | Said the dwarf with elven identity issues... |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 03:56 PM | Like I said, I'm in disguise. And I couldnt find a flumph avatar. |
| Stigger11-28-07, 04:11 PM | Sure, we believe you... ;) |
| johnkretzer11-28-07, 04:16 PM | Like I said, I'm in disguise. And I couldnt find a flumph avatar. So how is a flumph avatar better? |
| Sir_Shadow11-28-07, 04:34 PM | How is it not? Its a flumph. The one creature with the courage and bravery to stand all alone, all by itself in the midst of all that evil in the original Fiend Folio....That and I still have the Dragon Magazine that has the Ecology of the Flumph article in it and I still get a kick out of the smll illistrations scattered throughout the magazine (Flumph pretending to be a stack of pancakes...hilarious) Come on, its a flumph. How can you possibly get cooler than a flumph. Hell I'd buy 4E if it had Flumphs as a PC Race....ok maybe not but I like flumphs. (though as a DM it is hard to kill people with them) |
| NalarTheQuestioner11-29-07, 12:28 PM | +1 on the deepspawn using dwarves being one of the wierdest, least dwarf-like things I've ever heard of (except them living with orcs). Never happened, Scully has a perfectly rational explenation involving mass hysteria. |

| Alediran12-04-07, 02:37 PM | The "Thunder Blessing" was actually Alediran's first attempt to cast an electrical spell, with so much bad luck it ended hiting a dwarf's butt. The dwarf went berserker (he was half crazy) and ended spliting himself in two with his axe after trying to bull rush a hammster. The party cleric tried to cast a healing spell to restore the crazy dwarf to full form, but he never realized that he was in a Wild Magic Zone and ended making two dwarves with the spell. Thus the practice of the "Thunder Blessing" began. |
| MarkusTay6312-04-07, 02:57 PM | Just so you know, the Spawn Wars and the whole Dwarf-Deepspawn thing appeared at least as far back as Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide To The Underdark by Eric L Boyd, 2nd edition, 1999. In fact, I think the Deepspawn first appeared in Ed Greenwood's Dwarves Deep, 1990. It's not part of the whole GHotR/4e roll-in.BCM to the rescue again - I was going to mention this myself, but I thought the first appearance of that piece of Lore was Schend's stuff on the Lands of Intrigue, but I could definately be remembering incorrectly here. I have to admit, though, even when I first read that bit way back, it stuck in my craw. It just doesn't sound like something Dwarves would do - they are big on families and clans, and that whole concept just goes against that. It 'cheapens' the Dwarven race when you can just belt out a doxen new dwarves as 'canon-fodder'. But whatever, it's in there now, so its part of the Lore. Sometimes I think that starting the whole settin over (a re-boot) might have been the way to go afterall - then we could have 'lost' little 'gems' like that. |
