| Tyberian05-24-07, 05:31 PM | :banghead: :banghead: I have been in a creativity rut lately. For the sake of creativity I am looking for character concepts which could theoretically grow to become a deity. What I am looking for are character concepts that would meet a variety of criteria to varying degrees. First, could the character develop into something that would represent a lacking in the Realms or Demi-human pantheons. Or perhaps, would the character be representative of something that uniquely fits into the Realms mythology. This should be strong enough to allow Ao, the Overgod, to be willing to grant the ascension. What would be their powers/skills etc. that would make them uniquely qualified for 'ascension' at 21st character level. By that I mean at 21 hitdice. In other words, stay within the rules, but using house rules is o.k. as long as they are not contrived simply to make the idea work. Please help with some ideas, I look forward to sifting through them. Perhaps you could show concept, race, and class distribution at various character levels such as 9th, 15th, and 21st. |
| Tyberian05-24-07, 05:51 PM | Here is an example to start things off. Inanna was a fickle goddess of war and fertility in the Untheric pantheon who was killed during the orcgate wars. Her real world mythology consists of a tale, the descent of Inanna, where she journeys to the realm of the dead, is held captive, and finally released, albeit at a price. Perfect mythology for a dead goddess to be reborn. My concept is a female aasimar who, for whatever reason, believes she is Inanna reborn. At 20th level she would have the following: Fighter 8/Cleric 7/Contemplative 1/Divine Disciple 4. Her feats would consist of servant of the fallen (naturally), celestial bloodline, outsider wings, ancestral relic ( a relic of Inanna made using the magic item compendium rules), True Believer, Leadership and either rulership or extra followers. At 21st level, she would take a 5th level of divine disciple, completing her transcendence into becoming the living embodiment of a dead goddess whose mytholgy is based strongly on her returning to life. (Based upon the class description of divine disciple.) At the very least, this unusual situation should qualify her to become a monster of legacy, which could make her one step short of being a quasi-deity. The final transition would then be up to the dm. Any comments or ideas? |
| PharaunMizzrym05-24-07, 06:47 PM | The star elves lack their own god. Most other elven subraces have a deity more or less tailored to them. The Faerunian Pantheon also lacks a deity of psionics, if you're willing to dabble in such things.:looloo: |
| Tyberian05-24-07, 07:05 PM | Lost Empires has a 'dead' deity of psionics, but I seem to have forgotten his name. In fact, it states that of all the 'deceased' deities, he maintains a glimmer of awareness. Guess he isn't really dead, but one must use servant of the fallen to get spells the way one uses servant of dragon ascendant to get spells from Tchazzar. There is definitely room to expand there for campaign ideas. Unless I am mistaken, some of the Jamdathan ruins may be reasonably close to Hlondath, allowing for one to develop campaigns with a star wars sith flavor if one so chose. Perhaps the power of the passed on psionic deity is held only by a master and an apprentice until time for a new dawn in his worship, etc. THat helps my creativity struggles a little, but about 8 hours sleep in the last 60 hours may still be a problem. Any more ideas anyone? |
| PharaunMizzrym05-24-07, 07:15 PM | A god thats a strong advocate of true neutral and opposes the LG, CG, LE, CE deities. Dont know what that would look like though. Also there could be a movement to replace the outsider gods with mortal gods, as one could view it wrong for something that has never been mortal to judge/ be in charge of mortals. Just a thought Ive been having. Then again, I liked the concept of The Church of Ao, so I have some rather non mainstream ideas. There is a god of divination and a god of necromancy (illusion if you count Cyric). What about the other schools? A god of sorcerers perhaps? |

There IS a psionic (and monk) god - Appaunser. he is quoted as being 'sleeping', with Mystra's help to survive. I bet he is the god of the Old Order. |

To the first part that sounds a lot like the original dragon lance campaign where even the good deities were willing to strive for a balance so as not to tip the scales one way or another. AS to the second, there are an enormous number of formerly mortal deities: Mystra, Cyric, Bane, Mask, Uthgardt, Kelemvor, Velsharoon, Finder Wyvernspur, probably Gwaeron Windstrom, and Red Knight. Those are off the top of my head without a list to look at. The third is interesting, perhaps rather than differing god(s) and goddess(es) they could all be different appearing aspects of Mystra. Thanks once again. My brain is trying to work it's way out of a fog. |
| PharaunMizzrym05-24-07, 07:24 PM | But without necessarily the nature part. And silvanus isnt as extreme as what I was thinking of. Kiind of nihilistic like Shar, only instead of ending everything trying to bring about absolute indifference. No law/chaos or good/evil. Existence would just be that: existence. Hard to imagine, but possible to pull off. |
| PharaunMizzrym05-24-07, 07:26 PM | In hte second part I was aiming for a movement to make all deities former mortals. Minds in a fog? This is my first week after classes ended, so Im finally able to focus on whats important. D&D. :D |

One example, in the Ol' Grey Box, mentions that Illistyl Elventree has some degree of psionic power. In 2e, psionics has a few notable practitioners, one of them House Obladra -- is cover in both FR fiction as well as the 2e Menzoberranzan boxed set. Every other example of psionic characters in the Realms during 1e/2e can be gleaned from Kuje's FR NPC file. And take a look through Ed's compiled replies from Candlekeep for his take on psionics in the Realms. There IS a psionic (and monk) god - Appaunser. he is quoted as being 'sleeping', with Mystra's help to survive. I bet he is the god of the Old Order.See Lost Empires of Faerūn and Ed Bonny's replies at Candlekeep for more on Auppenser. |
| Drew1369r05-25-07, 12:00 AM | I think what is lacking is a good monsterous diety... make a troll paladin that is unflinching in his duty to protect those that are weaker then him and doesn't carry the mentality that all are weaker. |
| PharaunMizzrym05-25-07, 01:09 AM | Then would it really be a troll? :noway: |

There is something like that I always liked, albeit he is TN or LN, and maybe not FR but GH/Core - the god of mongrelmen and other humanoids who renounced evil way. This is a god of crafts, peace and unity, who is open to everyone. Kind of like a neutral mix of Eldath and Eilistraee. I think he was in the old AD&D2 books on monstruous and nonhuman gods, or the book to use some montruous races as pc. I saw him around on the web recently. Sadly, forgot his name... :( |
| The Ubbergeek05-25-07, 01:34 AM | Update - found it on teh intrawebz. Meriadar Title(s) - Homeplane Peaceable Kingdoms of Arcadia Power Level Intermediate Alignment Lawful Neutral Portfolio Patience, meditation, tolerance, arts and crafts Superior - Meriadar is a deity of patience, tolerance, meditation, and arts and crafts. Meridar's chief worshippers are mongrelfolk and non-evil goblinoids of any type (and arguably open to other typicaly evil humanoids who renunciated the traditional dark ways I'd say, perhaps). Meriadar makes his realm, The Hand of Peace, on the plane of Arcadia. |
| Renvale99905-25-07, 01:24 PM | Then would it really be a troll? :noway: I once had a troll PC(not mine, I was running the game) ascend to divinity(with the sponsership of Illmater). He became known as Strongheart, God of Good monstrous humaniods and giants. His porfolio included montrous humaniod, giants and healing. His domains ended up being healing, good and protection. I've had several PC's use him as a patron when they played goblins or orcs that were good aligned. For me it was a cool ending to a neat character and a opportunity to have anyone in future games that wanted to play a monstrous humaniods that needed a patron(i.e paladin or cleric) without worshipping someone weird, like Helm or something. |
| Drew1369r05-25-07, 02:36 PM | Sean? |
