The idea that I have is for an Elven college of history and poetry dedicated to the worship of Labelas. The college will have an affiliated religious order of Poet-clerics known as the Orators of Times Passage. These poet-clerics will be elven oral historians who recite beautiful epic poems that explain the history of the elven people in vivid detail.

They are also dedicated to the destruction of necromancy. The necromatic art is an abomination in the eyes of the order because it is used to subvert the natural march of time in two ways. First death magic can be used to overcome the blessing of Corellon and rob elves of their long lives. Necromancy is also used to unnaturally extend life by becoming undead. They do not actively hunt Baelnorn, but they are still uncomfortable with elves who chose undeath.

I want to turn the Orators of Times Passage into a clerical PrC that incorporates elements of bards, loremasters, time, and hunting undead. Before I begin doing this I wanted to see how everyone liked the overall philosophy of the class. I'd like suggestions for abilities. I also wanted to know if people think I am trying to fit too much into the class. Thanks. :)

Requirements
Race: Elf or Half-Elf
Alignment: CG, CN, and NG.
Skills: Knowledge (history) 10 ranks. Knowledge (religion) 5 ranks. Perform (Oratory) 5 ranks.
Feats: Skill focus, Perform (Oratory)
Special: Character must have access to Time domain and knowledge domain.
Patron: Labelas Enoreth

Orator of Times Passage

2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Lore (as bardic knowledge), Bonus Language (Selduin)
3rd +2 +1 +1 +3

7th +5 +2 +2 +5

9th +6/+1 +3 +3 +6 Immune (energy drain)
10th +7/+2 +3 +3 +7 Time Slip (future)

Class Features:
Hit Die: d6

Spells: An Orator of Times Passage continues to gain new spells as a cleric each level.

Time Slip (past): Once per day at the end of a round the character is able to change his actions for that round. Use of this ability is a free action. All other characters still take the same actions. Examples: the Orator knows that a spell he cast failed so he saves the spell and takes another action. He can choose to take cover instead of attacking because he knows an arrow will hit him. He has cover when the arrow is fired so it can't hit him.

Time Slip (future): Once per day the character is able to Time Slip one round into the future. Use of this ability is a move action. On the next round the character acts first and can take two full rounds worth of actions with a +2 intuition bonus to all rolls.

Class Skills: Skill points per level (4 + Int mod.)

Knowledge (all), Perform (oratory), Appraise, Concentration, Decipher Script, Gather Information, Heal, Craft, Profession, Use magic device, Diplomacy, Spell craft, and Listen.

I assume these elves won't try to destroy the necromancy that's involved with the art of healing? :)

I was thinking along the lines of bonus to turn undead and bonus to saves vs level drain and ability drain. :)

I actually like it a lot. I would suggest putting a PrC out there and then we can talk about the specifics. I might keep it away from the musical aspect of a bard, but lets see it

Does anyone know why the advancement chart gets compressed after I hit save when I edit my post? It's nice and neat when I edit it. I don't know how to fix the chart.

-Put it all within the code and /code tags.

Nice work. It nicely blends undead hunter and bard. I suppose a cleric/bard is the ideal build for this?

-Taking this PrC after simply being a Cleric seems reasonable as well.

now that you mention it, that is the more logical choice since the bardic stuff is added thru the PrC. I like it, howzabout you LK?

-I like the general theory behind it all, yes. I'd change up the granted abilities and what not, and change the prereqs so that at least a level or two in Bard was necessary as well.

Maybe you're right about the granted abilities. But as I'm thinking about this, I knod of like how it allows a cleric to dabble into some bardic stuff. But hey, you're the famed author of Elves of Faerun, not me

-Well, that's why I meant a level or two. Basically, I'd want the character to have a level or so in Bard to justify having the ability to "sing spells", and to justify being able to have knowledge of obscure things (Bardic Knowledge). I'd then have the PrC improve on those, along with Cleric-type things.

I thought about requiring a level of bard. I decided not to because I wanted to give clerics a chance to use bard type abilities. I'll think about it a few days and maybe I'll change it to require some bard. It was only a first draft of the PrC.:)

-Is there a feat that allows a Non-Bard to "Sing Spells" like a Bard? Because, if so, adding that to the prereqs would make me feel fine.

None that I'm aware of, but it could certainly be made up and made a pre-requisite. Maybe something along the lines of the old Music of the Spheres concept from back in the day.

Music of the who?

Music of the Spheres, as I recall it anyway, was supposed to be the harmonic sounds of the upper planes moving around, kinda like a big celestial symphony ala the Aurora Borealis with music. I'm probably wrong about those details, as its been at least 10 years or so since I read that stuff, but that was the basic gist of it I think.
