| Suin Bahhar09-11-07, 08:39 AM | What is this strange, enigmatic diety doing in Lutcheck in Chessenta? Is she one of the older forms of demon, or is she a newly formed diety? She seems more like a concept and i thought these were barred by Ao from Abeir-Toril. |
| Gelcur09-11-07, 08:54 AM | Spoiler: It is Tiamat granting the divine prayers of those that worship it. None of the worshipers of it know this though. Ref: 3E Lords of Darkness page 136. Silly gods. |
| BadCatMan09-11-07, 08:58 AM | It's a bit of a mystery. Entropy, a particularly large sphere of annihilation appeared in 1346 in the middle of the Karanok's torture chamber, and consumed a wizard that they were busy executing. They've worshipped it ever since. Now the thing itself is the spitting image of a holy symbol of Shar, a large black circle. The novel Maiden Of Pain has purplish energy around it, completing the image. Given the whole Shar vs Mystra thing, this focus for the Karanok's persecution of mages seems a very Sharran thing. (And a direct portal to the Shar's henchman's Volumvax's Adumbral Calyx can be found in Luthcheq as well.) Recently the Karanoks have gained divine powers, apparently from Entropy. Lords Of Darkness reveals that Tiamat was behind this, secretly supplying them with divine power to harvest her own, as she once did with Tchazzar. (That Tchazzar now opposes Entropy makes the situation very interesting, and no doubt highly profitable for Tiamat.) Fortunately LoD neglects to mention who created Entropy in the first place, so it still could be Shar or some other deity. This works out well, with Shar's role kept utterly secret, her goals carried out and some other deity taking the rap for it. |
| Zarreth_Nessad09-15-07, 04:37 PM | Sounds like Shar's work, all right. |
| ElberethSilverleaf09-15-07, 05:02 PM | Since ideas from Eberron are seeping like a festering wound into Faerun with 4e, maybe it is a concept or philosophy along the lines of the "Silver Flame" . |
| Fabius Maximus09-15-07, 06:07 PM | What are you talking about? |
| The Ubbergeek09-15-07, 09:11 PM | Since ideas from Eberron are seeping like a festering wound into Faerun with 4e, maybe it is a concept or philosophy along the lines of the "Silver Flame" . Shar would be Entropy, no need to accuse a follow setting. If you look at how Shar is described, it's pretty clear. |
| GothicDan09-15-07, 09:17 PM | Tiamat is Entropy. It's canon. Elbereth, don't mind Ubber. He has a disorder that requires him to immediately act in opposition to all forms of negativity. I figure if we gather enough electrons around him, he'll work himself into a frenzy and explode. |

Entropy fit better Shar and her non-existance, unravelling of everything. I may be wrong, but compare both. |
| MarkusTay6309-15-07, 09:59 PM | Don't worry, I just drank the rest of his glass.... Now it's not 'half full' anymore. :P |
| Iakhovas09-16-07, 11:28 AM | I prefered Entropy as first introduced. Any entity known as The God Swallower is cool in my book. :coolcthul For all we know, Entropy destroyed and is now masquerading as Tiamat; not the other way around. |
| GothicDan09-16-07, 12:00 PM | I preferred it that way, too. |

| Suin Bahhar09-17-07, 07:30 PM | The plot thickens... The God Swallower eating (a minor fragment of) Tiamat sounds ominous enough to move certain groups (like Tchazzar's clergy) in my campaign into action. Thanks for all, mates. |
| Zanan09-18-07, 04:00 AM | Well, for those interested, the novel Maiden of Pain features Lutcheq, House Karanok and some bits and pieces about Entropy's worship. Haven't checked the GHotR regarding this as yet, but there have actually been significant changes over there. Though I would assume that Entropy thing is still there. BTW, this "deity" has appeared in AD&D, i.e. Spellbound, so it is established FR stuff. |
| The_King_in_Yellow09-18-07, 07:26 AM | Read 'Dance of Demons' by Mr. G.Gygax that will enlighten you as to what this entity is. Yes it is Entropy, does this preclude Tiamat granting divine favour in its stead, no. I think IIRC in the extinction of a loop in the prime that was designed to ensnare Tharizdun, both Tharizdun and it realized they were tricked by Farther Time and Lady Destiny, it's possible Entropy strained against the bars of the cage and over excerted propelling itself into the alternative prime but destroying itself in the process, those things we know as spheres of anihilation are in fact the essence of a dead overgod ironically enough one of entropy. |
| Suin Bahhar09-18-07, 11:29 AM | Fragment of an overgod of decay, entropy and annihilation. Imprisoned on a alternative prime world and half-escaped by destroying it. Check. This all is gonna work even better than I thought. (I will make a planewalker from that world as my BBEG). Only who is Tharizdun? |
| Borris09-18-07, 08:21 PM | Only who is Tharizdun? Tharizdun is an ancient god of "eternal darkness, decay, entropy, malign knowledge, and insanity", whose true origins are uncertain. His goal is nothing less than the destruction of the universe. In Greyhawk, most of the other human deities, good and evil alike, banded togther to imprison him beyond the bounds of the universe. Despite that, he still grants spells to his few insane or misguided clerics. |
| The_King_in_Yellow09-19-07, 01:10 PM | I've always treated Tharizdun as the same entity Hastur from H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, because I believe it's in 'Lords of Madness' that a connection between Tharizdun and The Far Realm is made. Now I'm ad-libbing here a bit but I'm assuming the plan was to trap both Tharizdun and Entropy together in the hope they would enventually consume one another, however this plan back fired slightly because the entropy entity managed to escape the prison killing itself in the process. That's my take on the end of the novel anyway. |
