| Ashathar03-14-07, 12:25 AM | Ao doesn't respond to worship, grant spells, or do any of the other things deities tend to do. Therefore, while there are a handful of cults which "worship" him, and call out to him, there's no actual priesthood or benefit to doing so, and thus no Clerics, and no rules. |
| The Simbul03-14-07, 01:10 AM | The rules for the Forgotten Realms Deities are in Faiths and Pantheons. In order to make full use of them you would still likely need either Deities and Demigods or the Open Gaming Content rules for Deities in the Divine section of the S.R.D. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) As for Ao, he has has approximately six sentences devoted to him in Faiths and Pantheons, in terms of his role in the realms and in the affairs of the gods, functionally he exists as a footnote and/or tacitly irrelevant baggage from a previous era, where continuity was not part of the vocabulary. |
| Terraneaux03-14-07, 01:44 PM | The main problem with Ao is that people 'in the know' about him would probably *want* to worship him, as Mystra is the only god in FR with even remotely as much power as him (and he could still squash her like a bug). When followers seem to be in a constant game of one-upmanship (Bane is more powerful than Torm! Oh yeah, well then why did he get his ass kicked during the ToT?) it would seem that people would naturally gravitate towards his worship, despite clerics not receiving spells-they could use arcane casters instead and iac the churches in FR act more like powerful mercantile guilds than the faiths we're used to. Probably has something to do with the fact that religion in FR is not a matter of faith, but belief. If I had my druthers I'd edit Ao right out but you run into problems with the ToT storyline-right now I don't want to go through the effort of rewriting a lot of recent FR history and then explaining the history to my players. |

Why take him out? He doesn't do anything. I personally like Ao... if it wasn't for him, the deities would have little reason for clerics at all. Kudos to Ao for saving my favorite class! |
