Garl Glittergold alignment [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-01-07, 11:45 AM Faiths and Pantheons states that he is lawful good, while the Player's Handbook lists him as neutral good. Which one is right? :)

If you are using the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, I would go with Lawful Good. There should be a mention in Faiths & Pantheons what cleric alignments he accepts, it is not always standard 1 step rule in the Realms.

If you are not using the FR setting, then it is really DM's call. Well, ultimately it is DM's call regardless.

06-01-07, 07:22 PM Just checked 3e Deities & Demigods, and he is NG in there, so the PHB is not merely a typo, I don't think.

Checked 2e Monster Mythology and it lists him as LG (NG), whatever that means.

I guess he has always straddled the line between the two, so go with whichever one your DM will allow.

That's just the way the kobolds tell the story. The kobolds, naturally, want to make themselves look like innocent victims, because that's how they see themselves. The gnomes see the kobolds as brutal predators, so their story is very different.

In the gnomish version, nobody died, and Kurtulmak started it by capturing Garl while he was minding his own business. Garl escaped, humiliated Kurtulmak by collapsing his own cavern on top of him (Kurtulmak was a god at the time, and in no real danger, though it took a while before he dug himself out and got everything back to normal), and went merrily on his way.

Not that the gnomes are trustworthy, but I'd think twice before taking a kobold's story at face value.
