| Todesherr12-08-07, 04:24 AM | I hope so. I mean, he is THE greater god of the gnomes... It's a real shame...I played a druid/fighter of Baevron Wilderwanderer once...and I am assuming he is gone... |
| Hanali-in-Love12-08-07, 04:31 AM | Most all intermediate and lesser deities of the demi humans will be retconned. Garl may be safe, but all the other gnome gods will be gone. |
| Todesherr12-08-07, 04:41 AM | Most all intermediate and lesser deities of the demi humans will be retconned. Garl may be safe, but all the other gnome gods will be gone. :weep: |
| Lord Karsus12-08-07, 10:52 AM | -Weren't Gnomes not going to be included in 4e D&D? |
| Stigger12-08-07, 05:24 PM | Not in the PHB I at any rate... although I've heard rumors they'll be in the MM. Yet another reason to say DIE 4ED DIE!!! along with GEV. |
| Todesherr12-08-07, 07:25 PM | Coke is liquid sugar. |
| Iakhovas12-08-07, 10:02 PM | :looloo: |
| Lord Karsus12-08-07, 10:11 PM | :looloo: -Indeed. |
| Green Elven Vampire12-08-07, 10:58 PM | No gnomes in D&D! May as well get rid of using dice and just throw down paper, rock, scissors instead! |
| Todesherr12-09-07, 03:01 AM | No gnomes in D&D! May as well get rid of using dice and just throw down paper, rock, scissors instead! Are you agreeing with me that the extinction of the gnomish race is a terrible, tragic and ludicrous thing? It is just plain crazy. You don't think so? |
| GreenKnight12-09-07, 03:05 AM | Gnomes will be in D&D. Just not in the initial PHB. They may be statted out in the Monster Manual, instead. And here's a link (http://www.gleemax.com/Comms/Pages/Communities/BlogPost.aspx?blogpostid=5890&pagemode=2&blogid=2072) where they say as much. Here's the relevant quote. "Now I'm spending my days typing in monster numbers. I hadn't worked on monsters much, so it's cool to see what they're doing. I did wolves most recently, and gnomes are up next. (Gnomes rock, I don't care what anyone says.)" Incidentally, can you please edit Post #6 Todesherr? It's stretching out the thread. |
| MarkusTay6312-09-07, 03:45 AM | Gnomes will still be on Toril in 4e, but they are not an overly important part of Realms lore and are therefore not being represented by the initial 4e product release. No one has stated that they will be gotten rid of from the setting - they just won't be a playable class at the onset of 4e. I have a feeling most of the Gnome and Halfling Pantheons will be rolled together (the 'little folk' pantheon?), and then perhaps re-rolled into the Faerûnian one as well. I'd say they were being joined with the Seldarine to make a newer Fey Pantheon, but we now know that the Seldarine isn't going to exist for the most part either. Who knows what the 'little gods' will become? :( |
| GreenKnight12-09-07, 03:47 AM | they just won't be a playable class at the onset of 4e. They're in the Monster Manual, and the MM and PHB come out the same month, so they likely will be (They've said that some of the monsters in the PHB are also statted out as player races. Gnomes are very likely one of those races). |
| Todesherr12-09-07, 04:58 AM | I've played a cleric of Garl Glittergold twice in my life; I cannot believe he will be eliminated. Long Live the Lord of Gnomes! |
| Kenzuki12-09-07, 08:49 AM | I still say this whole melding on Pantheons is nuking futs! They should have thinned the Faerunian Pantheon if they wanted but left the demi-human pantheons alone and seperate. Otherwise Lord Ao is going to have a crappy day since his rule only allows ONE deity in a pantheon to have a given portfolio. |
| Fingoldfin12-09-07, 11:52 AM | Now that WotC has decided gnomes aren't 'kewl' I wouldn't be surprised if good old Glittergold got cut from both the Realms and Core. Did they release a list of the Core pantheon yet? I know Bane made it into Core. |
| Fingoldfin12-09-07, 11:56 AM | No gnomes in D&D! May as well get rid of using dice and just throw down paper, rock, scissors instead! There will still be dice in 4e. Only the psionic rules use rock, paper, scissors. :P |
| Lord Karsus12-09-07, 12:37 PM | There will still be dice in 4e. Only the pcionic rules use rock, paper, scissors. :P -It's about time. I've been advocating the use of rock, paper, scissors in Psionics for a long time now. Good to see that they listen to their customers' outlandish demands. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin12-09-07, 06:35 PM | Wow, now I can post in this thread now! Thanks for editing post 6, I think that did it. As for Garl Glittergold--I have the feeling he'll still be in, as he is the head of the pantheon and the main god of gnomes. That doesn't mean the gnomish pantheon will remain unchanged, though. |
| Lord Karsus12-10-07, 10:23 AM | Wow, now I can post in this thread now! Thanks for editing post 6, I think that did it. -Even when the window was..."big", you still could have posted. I was having trouble too, but I realized that the text box was still the same size, and it was like in the middle of the window. |

Maybe I could have posted but I couldn't figure out how to do it, so I didn't bother. *shrug*:) That's a good reason not to "mess up" a thread like that. |

| Lord Karsus12-14-07, 12:20 AM | -Better than that of L.A. |
| msatran12-14-07, 01:07 AM | Well, they decided to build a really big pin to find the number of active gnome PC's in the Forgotten Realms, and they found one about five feet wide and discovered that it was enough for all of them to dance on. In the time I've run my game, and that's 20 years, ONE PC has played a gnome. I don't LIKE this. But it is what it is. |
| johnkretzer12-14-07, 01:28 AM | Garl Glittergold will probably be in 4th though he will be less of a gnome god and probably more of a illusionist god...I still don't like it. (He'll probably be revealed later to be really Leira...and then part of Cyric... ) |
| Stigger12-14-07, 01:45 AM | Wow... that's funny. Two of my players just love gnomish characters. |
| Lord Karsus12-14-07, 02:59 AM | -In all my years of playing, I've only been a Gnome once- and it was a Svirfneblin. |
| msatran12-14-07, 03:01 AM | Well, a lot of my players didn't find the Gnome Fighter 4/Rogue 3/Blackguard 5/Assassin 2 with a heavy pick to be particularly funny. :) |
| Stigger12-14-07, 03:53 AM | Heh, that sounds hysterical actually... like something I'd toss at my characters just to see them go "WTF????" :D |
| msatran12-14-07, 04:11 AM | It's all funny until someone flanks you with their fiendish mount and crits you with a heavy pick and smite good for over a hundred points of damage plus 3d6 of sneak attack. That fight didn't happen in the Realms, it happened in a shared world (Something I'll never do again), but nonetheless, it soured a lot of my players on gnomes. |
| msatran12-14-07, 04:14 AM | Oh, Kenzuki, regarding your signature. One of my villains is an evil Half Fiend Fighter 2/Rogue 5/Assassin 9 who is a Bhaalspawn child. His plan, which is 500 years old, is "I live on the King Killer Star. I will crash it into Faerun, hit Calimport or Waterdeep, and become the new Lord of Murder. I will kill one million people, plus all of the people who die from the permanent dragonrage. And since I live in an extraplanar pocket, I will survive to step out and survey my realm of misery and destruction. Even Talos will lose power from me!" They're not going to be happy with that fight, to be sure. |
| Green Elven Vampire12-14-07, 07:14 AM | A rogue/illusionist of Baravar Cloakshadow with heavy use of phantasm spells and maybe a few levels of arcane devotee and assassin would not only make for good roll play, but pose a serious threat for any opponent they face. Gnomes in 3ED are much different from those from 2ED just as halflings in 3ED aren't the fat, plumper fellows from 2ED. |
| Suin Bahhar12-15-07, 07:00 PM | I wouldn't be surprized gnomes would be the first to relearn channeling magic from the AEther. |
| Neutronium_Dragon12-15-07, 07:13 PM | The Races and Classes preview has talked about "the trouble with gnomes". In short, they're facing a similar identity problem as with the elves, which in the latter case was solved with the elf/eladrin split. They haven't found a good way to resolve the gnome one yet. However, if (as is commonly theorized) the PHB2 a year later focuses on the Feywild and includes various naturey-themed content, it's not unlikely that gnomes will get a new treatment there, building on the old fey imagery of their kind in real world myths and leaving aside the more tinker/madcap aspects. In which case Garl may reappear as a more fey-themed deity. |

They haven't found a good way to resolve the gnome one yet. -Wow, like Elves, I didn't know Gnomes were having an "identity crisis". And, like Elves, I hope they don't ruin Gnomes... |
| Stigger12-16-07, 09:52 AM | I'd love for them to ditch the tinker/comic relief stuff that infected them (in general) during 3e... |
| msatran12-16-07, 10:00 AM | That's more of a Gondism than it is a tinkerism. Gondsmen have always been treated with a certain amount of disrespect. Although I do run a game where the GM PC is a Half-Dragon Cleric of Gond. She's bright and cheery and upbeat, which is kinda funny. Lashakara: RISE AND SHINE EVERYBODY!!!!!! It's a beautiful day to go adventuring! I made us some breakfast, and I've started packing up, and it's going to be a wonderful day!!!!!!! Other PC's: You'll pay for waking us, Gondswoman! Lashakara: That's Gondsdragon to you....hmf... The problem with Gondsmen is that most of them are seen as grim steampunk creatures. It's all in how you roleplay it. |
| Selvarin12-16-07, 04:11 PM | Well one of the mantras of 4e is "What's this class's/race's role? What sets it apart?" Gnomes are an in-betweener. Depending on who you talk to it's between elves and dwarves (more magical but not as fey) or as a midget competitor with the halfling. In the PHB they already have a mobile end-table (the halfling) thus they have to work something out for poor Gnomey. Wouldn't be surprised if they killed off the deep gnomes, nothing's sacred these days. ("Seldarine? Selde-what? Pink-slipped. They were going to form a union to protest.") |
