| Burningspear02-27-07, 12:34 AM | If i wanted a "ring" or whatnot, miscellaneous type item, witch would give the wearer a "permanent" (when worn) reduction of 1 size category? Meaning, from Large to medium, what would said item cost, yes i know there are potions, but they don't last long and are not useful in the role play aspect Anybody ideas? thnx in advance.. :plotting: |
| Valgard02-27-07, 10:05 AM | There's a table in the DMG that says how to calculate magic item costs and prizes for your own items. You could create a magical ring with the effect of reduce person (I don't know if this spell exists with another name or in any book, but I would treat it as an enlarge person spell) permanently. |
| Burningspear03-04-07, 01:17 PM | So if i read the DMG correctly on it, it should be: 2 (lvl of spell) x 3 (minumum lvl of caster) x 50 (ring) x 2 (original spell duration 1 min per lvl) = 600 Gp. that uses the spell reduce person as the basis. |
| Zevox03-04-07, 01:43 PM | Actually, I believe the price would be: 1 (spell level) x 1 (minimum CL) x 2,000 (continuous spell effect) = 2,000 gp. Reduce Person is a 1st level spell, not a 2nd level one, and that x50 in the ring entry is only for calculating additional cost due to material or xp components to the spell. Zevox |
| Burningspear03-04-07, 01:55 PM | Ah, i misread the spell lvl, and i remembered Enlarge being a 2nd level spell at some point in time, lol, my bad memory:(, And i dont think the Item creation rules are very clear (to me at least), thnx for helping out, Zevox. should the end cost not be x2 as it is a 1 minute per lvl duration type spell? |
| Zevox03-04-07, 03:53 PM | should the end cost not be x2 as it is a 1 minute per lvl duration type spell? I can't seem to find a rule like that... mind pointing me to it? Zevox |
| Burningspear03-04-07, 03:57 PM | I can't seem to find a rule like that... mind pointing me to it? Zevox Sure :tie: DMG Page 285, below table 7-33, 2 If a continues item...blabla... |
| Zevox03-05-07, 12:00 AM | Sure :tie: DMG Page 285, below table 7-33, 2 If a continues item...blabla... Got it. Yep, that means you'd double the cost, so its a 4k gp item. Just a thought I just had - Reduce Person only works on humanoids. If this is intended to work on a non-humanoid (given you said the intended creature is large and most humanoids aren't such, I'm guessing thats the case), you might want to increase the cost a bit to account for it working a little more powerfully than the spell is intended to (maybe an additional +50% or doubled price or something). Theres no guidelines for that though, just a suggestion of my own on this. Zevox |

Zevox Thanks for the input but i disagree, as it clearly states in the spell, even describing a Large Humanoid (humanoid only describes that is should have 2 arms and 2 legs 1 head and torso, type of creature...). And otherwise it would make it to easy for a medium creature to go large semi permanently, and harder for large to medium, thats weird. |
| Werner03-05-07, 11:46 AM | reduce person+permanency...it is allowed by rules and easier... |
| Burningspear03-05-07, 11:58 AM | reduce person+permanency...it is allowed by rules and easier... yes, but not deniable when u want it "switched off", so a ring is just as easy in "real life" because when u want to be big again, u just take the ring of. :tie: :plotting: |
