Azezel 07-03-07, 02:53 PM	It's come to my attention that, back in 2e, followers of Lliira were forbidden from violence, and even from holding an unsheathed sword. Is that accurate? And is that still the case in 3.5?

I was never really up on allthe goings on in the ToT, but this could be useful - you see, my character is a swordsman who worships Lliira and has a justifiable grudge of his own against the followers of Loviatar. Care to go into a bit more detail? I smell character development in this.
Stigger 07-03-07, 06:02 PM	Scarlet Mummers is the name of the order... they're pretty big into something that sounds a lot like savate and sound pretty cool really. Don't think they've really gotten much mention though really. I seem to recall seeing one of Ed's articles being about them on the WotC board, but I can't say I ever looked at it. Personally, I would advocate a semi-heretical group being born that takes her liberty and freedom portfolios and do the whole freedom fighter/guerilla fighter thing... makes it pretty easy if you work in the Holy Liberator PrC from Complete Divine in.
Psionycx 07-03-07, 08:16 PM	According to Faiths and Pantheons Liira's (as an avatar) had a thing going with her high priestess in Selgaunt during the ToT. Afterwards said high priestess was killed by Loviatans. Given the nature of Loviatar, I doubt it was a quick or pleasant death. Liira seems to have relaxed her pacifism somewhat since. But militarism is not her primary focus even now. Nonetheless, she seems to see the need for followers to act against those that would bring suffering where Lirra thinks there should be joy. The Scarlet Mummers seem to be one solution. Under the circumstances I'm inclined to think that swordsman would not be totally out of place. But they couldn't simply be a full-time vigilante. Liira still seems to be sticking to her main operation, mummers being a kind of acrobatic performer I am sure the Scarlet Mummers also spend time trying to entertain people and spread joy as much as they go around trying to impale evil people with their feet. Likewise, a swordsman would have to have some flair, skills like Perform and such. Maybe even a day job as some kind of carnival performer?

Azezel 07-04-07, 02:25 PM	Snip I think my swordsman fits - he's a CG swashbuckling Fighter - specialised in the two-bladed sword - and has a certain flair for the dramatic and acrobatic. That and the party are in Thay with a specific mission of liberating the masses (yeah, tall order, isn't it?) Whilst he is not a Scarlet Mummer, his wife (Cleric of Lliira) might very well be... Thanks for the information, chaps.

Suin Bahhar 07-04-07, 04:39 PM	Its a bloody shame the Blade kit for the bard hasn't survived the change to 3rd edition. They are the master knive throwers and blade swallowers of 2nd ed AD&D. They had offensive and defensive spins that could impress crowds and foes, and were more martial then normal bards. These would make good harpers and scarlet mummers.
