Karsus the Mad 04-18-07, 05:05 PM	Gond and Oghma both, with patronage to Gond. Gond isn't against magic at all (regardless if it's Weave or Shadow Weave based). He simply doesn't view it as anything special beyond yet another tool he and his followers can use to create new wonders. A good prc for you might be the master alchemist from Magic of Faerun:) *wonders off to give praise and thanks to Gond

Alchemy, at its heart, is about searching for truth in what makes up life -- certainly an interesting aspect for the All-Seeing One.

Alchemy, at its heart, is about searching for truth in what makes up life -- certainly an interesting aspect for the All-Seeing One. Semi-related, this gave me an idea. For alchemical scribing, alchemists could use the symbols of deities that corespond to the element. Instead of using a circle (the sun) to represent gold, use Lathander's symbol, etc.

The dogma of Oghma is geared toward making forms of knowledge accessible -- responsibly. The secrets of alchemy would thus, be seen as knowledge that should never be hidden. And that works against the traditional conception of the "strange and obscure alchemist dabbling in his secretive art." Deneir may be a possible fit -- though only as a scribe who seeks to ensure that the secrets of alchemy are never lost. This particular devotee interpretes his service to Deneir as a mission to record and store ALL the knowledge of alchemical research that exists in the Realms. Though, even the dogma of Deneir relies on a "freedom of information" policy and, again like Oghma above, would make it difficult for any Deneirrath/Oghmantye alchemist to study the secrets of alchemy. Especially if he/she is expect to "share" such knowledge with the rest of the clergy which is, again, something you would also expect for an alchemist serving either Deneir or Oghma.

I think I agree with you that Oghma may not be appropriate - However the notion that Alchemy is supposed to be a certain way is a little hard line eh? Alchemy could be seen as secretive, suspicious, or obscure to anyone who is not familiar with it. A non-alchemist wizard would not find it as strange a practice as say a man-at-arms. [ever met a physicist?] Most of the "traditional conceptions" come from mis-understanding - just like the practice of magic. In the end, it will be all in how you role play the character.
