| Old Sage05-18-07, 10:22 AM | Have you read Rich Baker's "Last Mythal" trilogy? |
| BrennonGoldeye05-18-07, 10:34 AM | Have you read Rich Baker's "Last Mythal" trilogy? Excellent source for the fluff behind the Fiend. :D |
| Khaelieth05-18-07, 11:16 AM | Wait for the Grand History of the Realms=) |
| XHereticX05-18-07, 07:48 PM | Wait for the Grand History of the Realms=) Ahh, I can't wait until November, must have nowww:eek: |
| Gray Richardson05-19-07, 04:20 AM | There was a rumor that the Grand History might have been pushed up to September. It would be wonderful not to have to wait so long! |
| Krash05-19-07, 05:29 AM | September is my birthday. What a great present it would be to have a copy of GHotR to read on that day. Yes, indeed it would. And so close to GEN-CON.:) -- George Krashos |
| Stevenoble05-19-07, 09:01 AM | Thanks for that had not even heard of the last mythal, will getting looking asap. cheers |
| ltwally05-20-07, 12:55 PM | There was a rumor that the Grand History might have been pushed up to September. It would be wonderful not to have to wait so long! Why wait? When it's been available as a free PDF for the past couple years... (http://www.geonomicon.com/chronology/A%20Grand%20History%20of%20the%20Realms. pdf) You'll note that it's by the same author as the as-of-yet-unreleased WoTC version... |
| GothicDan05-20-07, 01:14 PM | Yes. Everyone knew that already. :) Some of us were around when Brian delivered the news that his book was going to be bought by WotC and published. Totally buying it. Ignoring every module that WotC ever puts out. |
| XHereticX05-20-07, 03:40 PM | There is a free PDF with the same product? sweet, so the contents will be similar right. |
| XHereticX05-20-07, 05:30 PM | Newsflash, they removed the PDF. |
| Iakhovas05-20-07, 07:03 PM | Yup, I removed it from my website, but if you're quick you can still download it (http://www.candlekeep.com/downloads/grandhistory.zip) from Candlekeep before it's too late! :gift: |
| XHereticX05-20-07, 07:07 PM | Thank god.... Oh, is the WoTC version going to have anything new? |
| Old Sage05-20-07, 08:29 PM | Yup, I removed it from my website, but if you're quick you can still download it (http://www.candlekeep.com/downloads/grandhistory.zip) from Candlekeep before it's too late! :gift:Indeed. And I must get on to Alaundo about a definitive date for taking down the PDF at Candlekeep also. |
| Old Sage05-20-07, 08:30 PM | Thank god.... Oh, is the WoTC version going to have anything new?I would suggest you take a look through this scroll at Candlekeep:- http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8788 |
| Krash05-21-07, 12:32 AM | Thank god.... Oh, is the WoTC version going to have anything new? That would be an understatement. -- George Krashos |
| runestar05-21-07, 07:41 AM | Goodness - it is just 1 massive timeline... Who would be interested in such a book? |
| GothicDan05-21-07, 07:57 AM | It's not just a timeline, silly. It also goes into actual prose paragraphs about the history. It's a history book. Which means ZOMG! one of the best books WotC's ever printed. |
| Old Sage05-21-07, 07:57 AM | Grand History is certainly going to be more than "just one massive timeline." Runestar, I suggest you take a look at the link I provided above. |
| runestar05-21-07, 08:48 AM | I did...but the history was quite summarized, with tons of references to misc novels and sourcebooks. That is one heck a lot of cross-referencing I will need to do to get the fuller picture... |
| Khaelieth05-21-07, 01:04 PM | It's not just a timeline, silly. It also goes into actual prose paragraphs about the history. It's a history book. Which means ZOMG! one of the best books WotC's ever printed. Agreed! *Whacks Runestar with his Khae-stick* |
| Alediran05-21-07, 03:55 PM | I only hope that Brian's book sells many copies, it could open the gates for more books like his (*hopes to get Elves of Faerūn published by WotC* |
| Krash05-21-07, 07:24 PM | It's not just a timeline, silly. It also goes into actual prose paragraphs about the history. It's a history book. Which means ZOMG! one of the best books WotC's ever printed. To clarify, there are prose bits about various aspects of the historical timeline. There isn't a prose examination of every part of the timeline. There will also be material that is neither timeline entries nor prose commentaries.:) -- George Krashos |
| Krash05-21-07, 07:30 PM | I did...but the history was quite summarized, with tons of references to misc novels and sourcebooks. That is one heck a lot of cross-referencing I will need to do to get the fuller picture... Runestar, I agree with you that all you get is summaries. But they are summaries that will hopefully pique your interest and make you want to delve more and gather more information. Similarly, they might inspire you re background for your own campaign or PCs, make you want to fill in 'gaps' or ponder on what some of the events represent. I'll make you a promise - exclusing the Kara-Tur and Maztica references - if you buy GHotR and have any queries or questions re any timeline entries, drop me an e-mail at akrashos@bigpond.net.au and I'll give you the reference source and answer any questions you might have. Deal?:D -- George Krashos |
| The Ubbergeek05-21-07, 08:24 PM | Hey hey, we want the references to the world outside of Faerun, it shows all is not a closed pot.... |
| Krash05-21-07, 08:31 PM | The exclusion of Kara-Tur and Maztica was a reflection of my knowledge base, not of GHotR. -- George Krashos |
| Jhiroth05-21-07, 09:03 PM | That would be an understatement. -- George Krashos Any new information, or just expanding on the existing? Or both? Oh heck just sell it to me already, I HAVE MONEY!!! Heh. Looking forward to this one for a looooong time now and can't wait. :D |
| Krash05-22-07, 01:16 AM | Both. Especially in areas near and dear to my heart.:) -- George Krashos |
| GothicDan05-22-07, 01:20 AM | Like which, Krash? Care to tease us a little? ;) |
| Old Sage05-22-07, 01:33 AM | Impiltur... hopefully. And the rest of the Demon Lands as well, I hope. |
| Krash05-22-07, 07:19 AM | I won't say anymore as it'll just ruin the sense of expectation. maybe we'll get to say more at GEN-CON. -- George Krashos |
| GothicDan05-22-07, 09:13 PM | I'll keep my eyes/ears peeled! |
| GothWulf05-24-07, 10:07 PM | Yup, I removed it from my website, but if you're quick you can still download it (http://www.candlekeep.com/downloads/grandhistory.zip) from Candlekeep before it's too late! :gift: OK..call me an idiot, but has it already been taken down? Since I cant get the page to load, I assume so, but just wanted to check in case IM doing something wrong.... Wulfe |
| Old Sage05-24-07, 10:25 PM | Yes, it has since been taken down [just this week in fact]. Officially - "Well met Alas, the time has come when Brian's outstanding PDF of this work has had to be removed from the shelves of Candlekeep At the request of WotC, we are unable to offer this as a download, understandably. Nevertheless, we can all look forward to the official copy to hit the shelves later this year I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for allowing Candlekeep to host his Grand History PDF. It's certainly been a pleasure and has been a very popular tome for all Realms fans. Well done, Brian. Truly a great labor of love that has certainly paid off." |
