Ok, so I read craft contingent spell & the Spell Mantle feat.... so am I missing something or is it not clear that the mantle spells have to be personal/emanation magic to qualify as a mantled spell?
Anyone have more info on this? I have some ideas, but just checking if anyone else delved into this yet....

Hm, as I read it, it can be any spell that can be "safely" triggered.
If you want a "revenge-type" spell, it could be a fireball triggered by the death of its "wearer".
Or a nice defensive spell: Circle of Death triggered by any physical attack :)
Burst is good too, as spread, etc. Any spell that doesn't require an action to target (touch spells are out I think).

the main reason i ask is this: can a archmage with mastery of shaping have a contingent/mantled fireball centered on him self, but shaped as not to damge him? I think this is totally possible, but I want to hear other opinions regarding this, and mantles in general.

I am not sure if someone can craft a spell under the effect of mastery of shaping. As the shaping takes place at the casting, this could or could not work, depending on the DM's interpretation (effectively, you use mastery of shaping when actually using and targeting the spell in action).

But yes, I think I would allow it for a moderately reasonable player.

Sounds like something I'd let one of my players do... so I'd say go for it.

I'd allow it, since to create the contingent spell you cast the spell at creation time, and having mastery of shaping means you can alter the shape at casting...there you go:)
As to my opinion regarding "mantles", well, they're not mantles. They're more akin to baldrics. Mantles haven't been single use contingent spells in the past, I don't see any reason to make them as such now. The closest thing to a true mantle I can think of is creating an epic spell that utilizes the mythal seed.

as i was just about to chime in... the current "rediscovered" mantle-esque enchantments can't & shouldn't be able to hold a match to what was possible before Karsus' folly, but they're still pretty formidable if you ask me.
as for the mastery of shaping on the spell, i just think of the high arcana powers as innate metamagic effects.
just my 2 cents :twocents:

I realized later that it probably won't work: all authors have a contingent Summon 500$/hour lawyer placed on them so the moment we will try to "convince" to reveal something the mighty lawyer will appear and smithe us with thier fiendish "Codex of Infinite Laws"
