Name that Goddess [Archive] - Wizards Community

I can't recall where I read about this goddess and was hoping for some help. She was good, I think had war as one of her domains, and her weapon was the bastard sword. She was a strategy like goddess, and was a servant to Tyr I think....

If you can't think of her, can you think of a god or goddess that has War as a domain, that is good or LN, and doesn't use a longsword, battleaxe or spear as his or her weapon.

All I can think of is Anhur, who uses the falchion.

07-15-07, 07:51 PM That's Red Knight, goddess of strategy and tactics and protege of Tempus. She LN, has War as a domain, but her favoured weapon is longsword.

I can't think of any human gods who fit your criteria.

07-15-07, 08:50 PM *nods* Take out "serves Tyr", "is good", and "doesn't use a Longsword" and you've described the Red Knight perfectly. Although she is friendly with Torm, so I could easily see the Tyr and being good issues as simple mistakes of memory.

Tempus, the CN Faerūnian God of War and Battle has a Battleaxe as his favored weapon.

Clangeddin Silverbeard, the LG Dwarven God of War, also has a Battleaxe as his favored weapon.

Haela Brightaxe, CG Dwarven Goddess of Luck in Battle and fighters, favors the Greatsword.

Gaerdal Ironhand, LG Gnomish God of Combat, favors the Warhammer.

Arvoreen, LG Halfling God of War, favors the Shortsword.

As you noted before, the Mulhorandi God of War Anhur favors the Falchion.

Most Orcish Gods are warlike and favor other weapons, such as Gruumsh favoring the Longspear.

This is just with a quick scan of F&P, I may have missed some.

07-17-07, 01:00 PM The Fallen Deity Ramman has the War Domain and favors the Khopesh, which is pretty similar to the Bastard Sword in terms of numerical power.

Other than a few (newly statted) dieites and some deities not in FR sources, my sig has a link to a table with all the deities and their domains, favored weapons, and a few other tidbits of info.

Certainly the Red Knight has certain features in common with her, although they are substantially different (Mayaheine being more like Torm, in many respects). Mayaheine's only 3e mention that I know of is in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, although she was probably also mentioned in From the Ashes and / or Greyhawk Wars for 2nd edition.

I guess it wasn't FR! Must have been old Greyhawk stuff I was reading thru a few years ago.

What are the domains of Mayheine? Where can I find out her stats?
I did find:

Mayheine
LG Demigoddess of protection, justice, and valor.

So I'm guessing the domains would be Good, Protection, War, Law just off the top of my head.

Mayaheine, LG Demigod of Protection, Justice and Valor, Domains: Good, Law, Protection, War.

She's got a paragraph-sized write-up in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, but otherwise doesn't really have 'stats,' per se. She was a mortal paladin, elevated after heroic acts (and, presumably, a heroic death) during the Greyhawk Wars by Pelor, IIRC, as he lacked a martial aspect. I think that the 2e Castles boxed set featured a five-sided castle built by her faithful as one of its three sample castles (one Realms, one Greyhawk and one Dragonlance), so there might be more information on her there.

For a Realms game, the Red Knight has a similar backstory, recently elevated by her less-stategically minded superior, Tempus, to sort of 'cover' for aspects that he's not so keen on dealing with personally (being too chaotic to get all het up about that planning thang). Alternately, Torm could fit the bill as well, being a god of justice, valor and all that sort of thing.

Favored Weapons tend to be regarded as 'flavor text' anyway (Heironeous, in Greyhawk, has the favored weapon of battle axe, and his worshippers even identify each other by a pass phrase about his legendary magic axe. 'Core' Heironeous has favored weapon longsword, to make him more accessible to the average 'paladin player' who uses a longsword. Swapping Torm or the Red Knight's favored weapon around to appeal to the players shouldn't be any more difficult.).

Just to clear something up, Torm's actual portfolio is duty, loyalty, obedience, and paladins.

I found on old Living Greyhawk supplement that indicates that Mayaheine was from another world and served as a paladin to a major greyhawk god. Sounds like the otherworldly traveler could make a trip to the FR? But perhaps this steps on too many toes with the Triad (Torm/Tyr/Ilmater) and the Tempus/Red Knight relationship. Unless she represents a good god without war in his or her portfolio. Perhaps Lathander, as Swords of Morning (with apologies to George R. R. Martin) or Denier as Knight of battle knowledge?
