| HawkTheOne-Handed11-19-07, 05:50 PM | We are starting a new campaign soon. A player in the group got his hands on an Encyclopedia Arcane - Familiars and wants to be able to summon familiars from it using its summoning rituals. I pointed out to the DM that the potential for abuse from this was obvious. I suggested that he use the old Forgotten Realms summon advanced familiar spell (forgot what it was called) as it set a limit on what could be summoned and the costs were more reasonable (although certain abilities like the earth elemental familiar's shared move through earth ability was shakey). Only problem is that I forgot which 3.0 book it is from. I don't have many 3.5 Forgotten Realms source books so I don't know if it is in any of them. Can anyone help by pointing me in the right direction? |

| HawkTheOne-Handed11-19-07, 07:44 PM | Thanks. Could have sworn that there was a 5th level spell that allowed summoning advanced familiars at the cost of thousands of gold and 1,000 xp. I can only imagine how much fun this campaign will be with this metagamer running about with a Succubus or worse as a familiar. :weep: |
| Stigger11-19-07, 07:55 PM | Don't recall you being able to get any infernals worse than an Imp or Quasit for a familiar with the feat... a cohort at epic levels of Leadership I think you could get those, but not as a familiar I don't think. |
| HawkTheOne-Handed11-19-07, 08:01 PM | Main problem is that he is using a d20 product (Familiars book) which has spells which allow you to access ever more powerful familiars based on your caster level. If he doesn't choose a construct or fiend, my head will explode from shock. |
| Stigger11-19-07, 08:08 PM | Ah, couldn't speak to that... well, guess its up to the DM as to whether he gets it or not them. Though if the DM does allow it, see if you can convince the guy to let the familiar tank and try to get it killed. ;) :D |

It uses all 3.0/3.5 WotC D&D rules for maximizing your familiars and to get the best bang for the buck with the Imp. Familiar feat and the conversion spells used to enhance them. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=875062 |
