| ranger of the north04-02-07, 06:57 PM | I'm not really sure if this is the right place to put this. If it isn't I can only hope that the WizO's move it. Anyway, here for your perusal is an item I'm considering creating. Some of the effects may seem odd, but it's being designed speicifically for one character, so it makes sense for him. Phenagon's Gauntlets of Ready Magery These gauntlets are made of what looks to be masterfully shaped silver, and decorated in a minimalist elven style, attached to fingerless brown leather gloves which look more akin to velvet than leather. A large prism sits in the back of each hand of the gauntlet, and small indentations ride up each arm of the gauntlets, three on each arm. These gauntlets grant the following powers: -Each gauntlet may act as a glove of storing. -These gauntlets grant the wielder the Reactive Counterspell feat, even if they do not meet the prerequisites. -The prisms may be 'fed' gems by placing the gem in contact with the prism for 1 minute. The gem is then absorbed into the prism. Thereafter, the prism can stand in as the material component for any spell requiring gems, up to 500 GP worth of a single gem type for each prism. After use, the prism dims to a dark obsidian color, until the next dawn, when it recharges its power. Each prism functions only once each day, and cannot be recharged by any means before the next dawn. The prisms may be combined during the casting of a single spell, for a limit of 1000 GP of a single gem type. -The three settings on each arm may hold a gem up to 100 GP in it. The gems may be accessed as material components for spells without being handled by the caster, or activated if the gem is an attuned gem with a spell with a target of Personal, or one that requires a touch as long as you choose to target yourself. Any thoughts? Comments? Changes? Thanks in advance! |

| Stigger04-03-07, 12:51 AM | Agreed, that is a really nice concept for gloves there. I'm so stealing that idea from you for my little mage when the time comes... :D |
| ranger of the north04-03-07, 09:22 AM | Sweet! Someone actually likes my ideas for once! :D So far, I've got at least 20,000 GP, for the two gloves of storing aspect. I'm not really sure how one would price a feat, or the prisms. I'm thinking maybe some multiple of the max substitution amount, possibly by limiting how many gems can be fed to the prisms. Yes? No? In another direction, I need to determine what spells this uses as prerequisites. Shrink Item, for the storing part, and then I don't know. There's probably something out there that I don't know about which is perfect, but seeing as I don't know, it becomes a problem. Any thoughts welcome! Continue on! |
| ranger of the north04-04-07, 06:23 PM | Well, for lack of knowledge at pricing things, here's my first attempt: 30,000 GP. 20,000 for the gloves of storing, 5000 for the feat, and 5000 for the prism effects. So? ANyone have anything to say? Anything at all? |
| thedude7204-05-07, 03:51 PM | i was never good at pricing, so i wont go there. but those things are COOL! |
| Burningspear04-05-07, 04:34 PM | the pricing could be done via some "teleport or disintegrate" type spells, take that spell as the basis for the cost of the effect. Feats, I would love to know how WotC covers those in pricing, as i have some ideas of my own to work out. Good idea overall, very nicely implemented and neat clean idea. |
