Who Currently holds that portfolio?

And while I'm at it, Seeing how when some gods die some parts of them are still floating around (remnants) i.e. Myrkul(Crown of Horns) Mystra(one before midnight) Bane(BaneLich and all those other ones)

Doesn't that give the lesser deity of anarchy a chance to be floating around somewhere?

Hm. Talos? That's a stretch. :cip:

I would Vote Garagos :tie:
No other god is immersed as much in chaos as he is, personally and portfolio wise as well.

The obscure Valigan Thirdborn, a lesser deity of anarchy who appeared during the fall of Jhaamdath and the mess afterwards, was slain by Tyr (and/or his army), who obviously didn't take the portfolio. [Faiths & Pantheons]

I would guess you could include aspects of anarchy in Bane's / Cyric's strife portfolio. (Which fits my theories of the Dread Three being Old Empires deities who knocked off several lost gods of the Jhaamdath and the Turami pantheons) But anarchy wouldn't sit well with Bane's control and rule practices.

Actually, the essential meaning behind anarchy is literally "no rule". It would be quite fitting if no-one actually held control over it.

Hmmm, portfolio of Anarchy lost along with Jhaamdath?

.

Jees, all the "new" "crap" they come out with :plotting:, makes u wonder why they even bother to keep the old stuff alive :)

I still Say: Garagos, Master of Chaos/ Anarchy and singular battle

Talos holds 'rebellions.' It's not the same, but it's similar. I'd say that he'd hold the actions of the 'anarchy' portfolio by sheer brute force, and would have the first hand in actually acquiring it for good, too.

And Garagos with: War, Plunder and destructions is not a perfect contender?
with his little detail of fomenting wars and dissent.

Garagos (gah-rah-gohs), the deity of war and plunder, is chaotic neutral.
His titles include the Reaver and the Master of All Weapons.
He is an older deity whose place has been more or less taken by his
younger rival Tempus. Garagos is more concerned with war’s
destructiveness and plundering than with strategy or tactics, and he
and his followers attack and destroy any rivals who stand in their
way. The domains associated with him are Chaos, Destruction,
Strength, and War, and his favored weapon is the longsword.

Still dislike the longsword change, it should have been something like scimitar or Falchion or any other rounder type sword.

It all depends how you see Anarchy.

The idea also represents a utopian state of society where no-one is being ruled over by another, everyone is free, no-one repressed. It's all very Hippy, and could be represented by a Chaotic Good diety.

... No? Plunder can be a very lawful thing, and Talos has the actual portfolio of 'Destruction' itself.

riiiight, in my view plunder is never lawful, u should then call it "spoils of war", but as plunder it is chaos..

Sharess, and maybe Lliira come to mind then, but i regard anarchy as a bad form of chaos, so i don't think they are the best in my eyes,

If you're thinking of anarchy as rebellion or revolution, then Talos is the god you seek.

If you'd rather attain individual freedom from rules through more peaceful means, then Lliira, with her portfolios of freedom and liberty seems a good choice.

I'd wager anarchists and revolutionaries of all sorts pay at least lip service to both deities.

hmm in that case Anarchy could be split up among two deities like War is

unless Ao had a problem with it *mutters something about overthrowing him*

but what about free floating god-parts?

Hmmm, I'm reminded of Deep Sashelas. Oy, now thats free-floating.

Even assuming it IS Lawful, Garagos is all but faded away almost entirely. Talos has been around for at least as long as he has, and, as I said, 'rebellion' is the portfolio actually closest to 'anarchy,' and Talos has it.

Besides, Talos wears that codpiece with the :cip: symbol on it.

no, thats what they wrote him to be, and that is exactly why i dislike some of the changes they made :ahem: :banghead: :lop:
GothicDan

What do you mean, that's what they wrote him to be? From his very inception, that's how Garagos was defined. His history and character weren't changed or retconned or anything.

Booyah!

I prefer the old description/picture of him from Faiths and Avatars. Then again, almost all of the art in Faiths and Pantheons is so atrocious it makes me vomit a little. ;)

Hm, phase planes for linear systems with real eigenvalues...

Nah garagos used to be The god of war all smart planning and strategy, then tempus came along and killed him.

The garagos was reborn again from his faithful but he lack his aforementioned finesse and brains

One of the reason tempus tolerates him (*cough sidetracked convo cough*)

He never died and he was never the god of planning and sounder strategy, but he was not nearly as mindless as they portray him now :(

Yes, yes he was. He was portrayed in such a way all the way back to Powers and Pantheons, as far as I know.

I have the Netheril setting books (not with me though) and remember him as a chaotic wargod, not a mindless imbiciel (Dutch for moron)....
GothicDan

That's the impression I got on him from the Netheril boxed set. Of course, that was the most terrible boxed set ever made, too.

Tempus is a Chaotic War God. Garagos was... More like a cross between Tempus, Malar, and Talos.

Overall, this is a portfolio I see being too ambigious to be held by a deity. On one end, you got the free-living ideal, and on the other, you've got the wild, uncontrollable ruffian stereotype.

So the Thirdborn was basically a CN rogue
Razz

04-04-07, 03:39 PM
Valigan Thirdborn...sounds like a mortal who had ascended to a god controlling the portfolio of Anarchy. Would've been some interesting lore to learn.

I wish the designers did a Faiths&Pantheons-type book dealing specifically with ancient deities from the past: who they were, what they did, and how their servants may or may not be alive and how to slowly integerate a dead deity back into Faerun (through obvious use of Servant of the Fallen feat). And which deities are officialy making a comeback and what will become of Faerun when they do (for example, Auppenser is still alive, barely, and Nanna-Sin is making a comeback thanks to her servants transporting to Unther and aiding them against Mulhorandi).

Not interested in deity stats, other than what is necessary to be a Cleric of said deity such as alignment, domains, portfolio, favored weapon, etc.
