| LGMoses03-05-08, 10:45 PM | so who is replacing mystra? is it known yet? |
| Rauric03-05-08, 11:35 PM | I am pretty sure Gygax did not like the Realms. I remember seeing an interview where he trashed Ed and the Realms. It was a pretty sourgrapes type attitude. Some people said that this was all in jest. Meh. It sounded pretty nasty to me. |
| Mr. Wilson03-06-08, 12:59 AM | If you do it for Core that's one thing, but Mord has no real ties to the Realms and I wouldn't be happy he became the God of Magic over Azuth amongst others. |
| Meldread03-06-08, 01:04 AM | I think Gygax is turning over in his grave at that suggestion. :P |
| LGMoses03-06-08, 01:07 AM | I think Gygax is turning over in his grave at that suggestion. :P heh, yeah I'm just giving the FR players a start. :p I'll find my own way to honor the guy. |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 07:03 AM | -Yes, it is confirmed that Mystra has died, and will not be in 4th Edition. -Supposedly, Gary Gygax did not like the Forgotten Realms, but Ed Greenwood, reminiscing about him on Candlekeep, painted a much different story of the guy. |
| Stigger03-06-08, 08:45 AM | Well, Ed doesn't strike me as the type to trash another person without a tremendously good reason, especially if they're dead... |
| Kenzuki03-06-08, 09:00 AM | It's easy to say Gary liked his setting when you know, he's dead and can't confirm it himself. R.I.P GG. |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 09:02 AM | Well, Ed doesn't strike me as the type to trash another person without a tremendously good reason, especially if they're dead... -No, he doesn't. I was thinking that myself. It's easy to say Gary liked his setting when you know, he's dead and can't confirm it himself. R.I.P GG. -One can just go back and get some quotes from the dead guy on the matter, in that case. |
| Stigger03-06-08, 09:11 AM | Of course one could just as easily say he was attempting to diffuse conversations just like this that can only lead to ugliness if he said something even vaguely negative... beyond that, who cares what Gygax thought about the Realms? It doesn't affect my opinion of it in any way shape or form... we're all entitled to our opinions one way or another. |
| Kenzuki03-06-08, 09:13 AM | -No, he doesn't. I was thinking that myself. -One can just go back and get some quotes from the dead guy on the matter, in that case. Sure thing. I'll just go animate his corpse and get the info right out of him then. Then when the secret has been revealed, Greenwood shall join Gygax in his grave. For you see Lord Karsus, I have discovered that Gygax was murdered... |
| Stigger03-06-08, 09:15 AM | Wouldn't a google search be much easier than the necromantic route? :P |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 09:16 AM | Wouldn't a google search be much easier than the necromantic route? :P -Yeah, that's what I had in mind. Necromancy is a little bit harder than navigating a Search Engine. For you see Lord Karsus, I have discovered that Gygax was murdered... -I recommend you take this information to the proper authorities, then, if such is the case. |
| Stigger03-06-08, 09:18 AM | Well, one never knows with the combination of modern technology into magical ritual... could be the laptop grimoire makes things much easier. |
| Kenzuki03-06-08, 09:22 AM | -Yeah, that's what I had in mind. Necromancy is a little bit harder than navigating a Search Engine. -I recommend you take this information to the proper authorities, then, if such is the case. The local authorities were in on it don't you see! Ed Greenwood is the Mastermind behind all of this! He planned on absorbing Gary Gygax into himself to become some master gamemaster. It did not go as planned and Gygax died. Fear not, for I am on the trail! |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 09:26 AM | Well, one never knows with the combination of modern technology into magical ritual... could be the laptop grimoire makes things much easier. -It wouldn't work. The magic in scrolls and what not is imprinted in the physical writing, and the scribe putting the magic in the writing. At least, that's how I see it. I wouldn't say that typing did the same, since there's so much going on between the moment you hit the key, and when it appears on the screen. -Heh, it's funny you mention something like this. While you probably don't know, when computers first came about, there was a debacle in the greater Jewish community, because, according to customs, the word of G-d is not to be written. This is the reason why I always write it as I do. The community, as a whole, ruled that it can by typed, because the prohibition is against writing it, which is permanent. With a computer, you can just hit 'backspace' and erase the word, and anything else in the sentence. I still don't, anyway, but. The local authorities were in on it don't you see! Ed Greenwood is the Mastermind behind all of this! He planned on absorbing Gary Gygax into himself to become some master gamemaster. It did not go as planned and Gygax died. Fear not, for I am on the trail! -Hmm, I see. And, what makes you think that both myself and Stigger are not in this giant conspiracy, and are not going to attempt to kill you, too? I am LK, after all, and Stig is a luminous being... |
| Alediran03-06-08, 10:14 AM | And I'm the Elven Ayatholla. I'm in too. |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 10:21 AM | And I'm the Elven Ayatholla. I'm in too. -That is true...Did you issue the fatwah that killed him? |
| Alediran03-06-08, 10:30 AM | No, I Issued the fatwah to the man that made the killer hamburger. Nobody messes with the All Father (Gary) |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 11:09 AM | Nobody messes with the All Father (Gary) -Right...You do realize that he wouldn't like the way you play D&D, right? |
| Alediran03-06-08, 11:14 AM | -Right...You do realize that he wouldn't like the way you play D&D, right? I know, but without him I could not even play. He'll love the way the other DM in my group DMs though, and I enjoy both ways. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 11:36 AM | so who is replacing mystra? is it known yet? Mystra won't be replaced per se, as that would defeat the whole purpose of getting rid of her. The designers have made it clear that not only do they not want Mystra, they don't want "a Mystra", either (ie. a deity that is perceived to dominate the setting). |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 11:37 AM | -Supposedly, Gary Gygax did not like the Forgotten Realms, but Ed Greenwood, reminiscing about him on Candlekeep, painted a much different story of the guy. Indeed. Maybe Gygax didn't like the Realms setting, but it doesn't seem like he had anything against Greenwood (and Greenwood certainly has nothing against him). |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 11:39 AM | -One can just go back and get some quotes from the dead guy on the matter, in that case. Agreed. If people are going to declare what this man thought, let's see some sources for that. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 11:40 AM | ... beyond that, who cares what Gygax thought about the Realms? It doesn't affect my opinion of it in any way shape or form... we're all entitled to our opinions one way or another. Same here. With all due respect to Gygax, I could not care less if he disliked the Realms. It doesn't affect my own opinion at all. |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 12:12 PM | I know, but without him I could not even play. He'll love the way the other DM in my group DMs though, and I enjoy both ways. -Just making sure. Indeed. Maybe Gygax didn't like the Realms setting, but it doesn't seem like he had anything against Greenwood (and Greenwood certainly has nothing against him). -Point taken. |
| Alediran03-06-08, 12:18 PM | Come on LK, you know that I'm not going to parrot something... I'm a Hand after all. |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 12:20 PM | Come on LK, you know that I'm not going to parrot something... I'm a Hand after all. -I can guarantee you that a large deal of the people who are 'mourning' him, and advocating his greatness so much have no idea. ;) |
| 1 ton ghost03-06-08, 01:50 PM | for f-ck's sake ppl, he's not even in the ground yet... |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 01:52 PM | -Masking is a violation of the CoC. Change that before a WizO persuses by. And the fact that he is dead has no relevant impact on what he did, did not, said, did not say, believed, and did not believe. |
| Alediran03-06-08, 02:06 PM | -I can guarantee you that a large deal of the people who are 'mourning' him, and advocating his greatness so much have no idea. ;) His greatnes comes from what he created and how his creation made the world a better place. |
| Faraer03-06-08, 04:18 PM | -Supposedly, Gary Gygax did not like the Forgotten Realms, but Ed Greenwood, reminiscing about him on Candlekeep, painted a much different story of the guy.Gary did not dislike the Realms. When asked about it he consistently expressed simple ignorance about it except -- as far as I know, based on reading most of his messageboard correspondence and communicating with him and people who knew him -- for one jocular aside. He complimented Ed's articles in Dragon's letters column and is known to have got on well with him at conventions. There is nothing to your 'supposedly' but innuendo. |
| Stigger03-07-08, 01:33 AM | To be honest, if Gygax hadn't helped create D&D, somebody else would have... the industry has taken off too much for that not to be the case. Just think of it as a logical extension of old-fashioned storytelling with an interactive twist put to it... ;) |
