| QuenthelsChampion02-21-07, 03:28 PM | In my campaign the leader of the cities forces are all loyal selvetarm worshippers. My brother being a paladin of him and a judicator of some power that is the leader of a knightlihood in my campaign. With Selvetarm gone. He and all his knights that didn't worship Lolth have no power. He himself may be turned to worship Elistraee but i want to know how you all think i should play out the campaign for some ideas. I don't want to kill off my brothers char and make him make a new one. Should i let him get divine powers from Elis though she only gives powers to females? Any advice will help. QC |
| BrennonGoldeye02-21-07, 03:44 PM | Spoiler alerts are quite a fine thing.;) |
| Khaelieth02-21-07, 06:50 PM | I say Lolth'd give them powers instead. She can masquerade as Selvetarm too! |
| RooktheFury02-21-07, 07:21 PM | I think that Eilistraee(sp?) should give powers to men, if for no other reason than to be as much unlike Lolth as possible. I hate that rule and would just ignore it if it were my game. |
| The Ranger02-22-07, 12:04 AM | I wouldn't allow your worshippers of Selvetarm to change over to Eilistraee simply so they can continue to cast spells. The deities are simply too different (not to mention long-time foes). And it might be interesting to have the character launch a quest to find out what happened to his god and even try to restore him to power. It made for some good reading in WotSQ when it happened to Lolth's worshippers. And even without spellcasting, paladins and clerics can be formidable foes even without their spells, just look at Quenthel. All in all, I'd say it's a great roleplaying opportunity. That said, there are rules for drawing power from dead gods. Bhaal still has worshipers for instance and someone is granting them spells. |
| MarkusTay6302-22-07, 01:01 AM | I'm fairly certain, according to old Spelljammer rules and others I've read, that you can still cast spells up to 3rd level without the gods assistance. I think they are powered by Faith alone, or some such. However, after reading WotSQ I'd have to say things have changed and that no spells will work. Chalk another one up to novels changing things. |
| bitter thorn02-22-07, 08:02 AM | He's gone?! As I've already seen the spoiler, can I get some details please?? | Stigger02-22-07, 08:11 AM | How's a paladin of an evil god work? You mean blackguard maybe? *wanders off confused* |
| Zanan02-22-07, 09:45 AM | Evil paladins variants can be found in the very official and SRD'ed Unearthed Arcana, they go as Paladins of Slaughter (CE) or Paladins of Tyranny (LE). Regarding Selvetarm, leave it all out of your game - unless you go hot on the heels of anything really really up to date. Remember that the Silence of Lolth is referred to as having taken place almost two years back. With regard to the "game" as such, Selvetarm was twice-slain, once in-novel by Cavatina (so one would expect that a la Midnight / Kelemvor / Cyric that she gets a bit of power - Ao was watching), who was beginning to look a bit less "good" than you would expect of your average Eilistraeen, and supra-game by Lolth at the playing table. As had been said as well, many Selvetarmites would take the short route to Lolth - even though male clerics (etc.) may suffer certain problems. With Vhaeraun also unavailable for the time being (?), and me not able to see Eilistraee granting spells to the mad-bad-and-dangerous-to-know Selvetarmites, I'd leave them spell-less for the time being. IMHO though, as I said, you should not use the events in LP unless you know the extent of all the story. I did the same with my drow gangs and I had to wait for six novels till I knew ... |
| QuenthelsChampion02-22-07, 02:51 PM | He's gone?! As I've already seen the spoiler, can I get some details please?? *SPOILER* Selvetarm gets killed by a Darksong Knight by the name of Cavatina in the Demonweb pits by the cresent blade. And Stigger i used the paladin of Slaughter in the Unearthed Arcana book. Well I have good ideas now just which ones to use and not to use is the problem now. heh thanks for all the help. I'm thinking of maybe going to wait until all the books come out before i go switching my story you never know i might go to Elis and next book boom shes dead too. |
| Stigger02-22-07, 04:03 PM | Ah, thanks for that, never got all that interested in UA for some reason. |
| Lord Karsus02-22-07, 05:20 PM | -You can always turn to Ghaunadaur. I've always liked it. :) -I would say, though, that Lolth is likely to masquerade around as Selvetarm in the near future. She already was de facto Selvatarm, so she might as well make it "official". |
| BrianCritchley02-22-07, 07:02 PM | In my campaign the leader of the cities forces are all loyal selvetarm worshippers. My brother being a paladin of him and a judicator of some power that is the leader of a knightlihood in my campaign. With Selvetarm gone. QC as a game writer once is reported to have told someone when their favorite group got destroyed "next time pick a better faction" seriously, I'd say simply have em loose their divine powers and see what they do. |
| Boda02-24-07, 07:19 PM | Garagos! |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 07:38 PM | Garagos! -Garagos would be a good choice, actually. But, why would he be sticking his nose in business that it doesn't belong in- mainly, Drow business? |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 08:01 PM | Because almost all gods are constantly looking to 'broaden their horizons'. I haven't read any of this series yet, so now I'm stuck knowing things I don't want to. Which series is this again? Not that I plan on reading it now.... Another innocent killed while the evil live on.... FR writers sure don't want the Drow to get a chance to breath. Is this some sort of jealous retaliation at Salvatore's (and Elain's) showing their 'good' side? Its almost like their is some sort of internal one-up man-ship going on amongst the authors. "You think you messed up the world with YOUR RSE? Wait 'till you see how I REALLY f__k it up!" Nobody writes 'normal' stories anymore. :( |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 08:11 PM | Because almost all gods are constantly looking to 'broaden their horizons'. -Yeah, but Garagos has more to lose in this situation, than to gain. He and Lolth normally don't associate. If he tries to steal Selvetarm's worshippers, he'll be making a powerful enemy he really doesn't need. But, Garagos never was the brightest one...:) I haven't read any of this series yet, so now I'm stuck knowing things I don't want to. Which series is this again? Not that I plan on reading it now.... -The Lady Pentient Trilogy Another innocent killed while the evil live on.... -Well, he wasn't exactly inocent. -But, in general, I think there is more to the story than meets the eye...I think we might see Selvetarm again, sometime in the future. ;) -If you ask me, I think Sel is in on Vhaeraun and Eilistraee's plot to kill Lolth... |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 08:20 PM | -Well, he wasn't exactly inocent.Didn't you write up Selvatarm for the Netbook? He WAS innocent, he was tricked into absorbing Zannasu by Lolth, until then he was more like a male version of Elistraee, even a follower of hers. After he absorbed the demon, he became evil. He is just an innocent victim of Lolth's machinations. |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 11:20 PM | Didn't you write up Selvatarm for the Netbook? -I was mulling it over, but I decided not to. Alediran is doing Selvetarm. He WAS innocent, he was tricked into absobing Zannasu by Lolth, until then he was more like a male version of Elistraee, even a follower of hers. After he absorbed the demon, he became evil. He is just an innocent victim of Lolth's machinations. -The fact that he was tricked into absorbing Zannasu doesn't absolve him of his crimes, though. Not in my book, anyway. Sure, he was a tragic figure, and might still be in the future, but he has plenty of blood on his hands- all eight of them! |
| The_Shaman02-25-07, 03:34 PM | . But, Garagos never was the brightest one...:) Exactly: gain/cost situations are probably not his brightest side. I think that if Garagos saw a drow who was warmongering, chaotic, frenzied, and bloodthirsty enough, there's around 30% chance he might like him/her. Mind you, he might try to fight them instead, just for fun and as a practice for taking on Tempus :) Still leaves a few drow that he might fancy, given the prevalence of these mental qualities among their race. Anyway, it would be a relatively close fit. Besides, unless it's a very high-level follower, it's not likely to start an interdeity war. They have older and bigger plans. It could be quite possible during Lloth's silence, as Selvetarm was also quite absorbed and might have neglected his (few) followers. |
| Paledrow02-26-07, 06:27 PM | Well , since the worship of Selvatarm is essentially the worship of Lolth, then it would make sense that Lolth would be the default for all Selvatarm worshippers. |
| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 06:29 PM | Well , since the worship of Selvatarm is essentially the worship of Lolth, then it would make sense that Lolth would be the default for all Selvatarm worshippers. -Well, there was that "heretic" group that worshipped Selvetarm as something more than Lolth's flunky. He still granted them spells, so I guess he appreciated them, a little bit. |
| Alediran02-26-07, 06:56 PM | -Well, there was that "heretic" group that worshipped Selvetarm as something more than Lolth's flunky. He still granted them spells, so I guess he appreciated them, a little bit. That could have been the part of him that still wasn't totaly evil and s*****. |
| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 07:36 PM | That could have been the part of him that still wasn't totaly evil and s*****. -Well, those Drow heretics were still quite evil. The Drow featured in Sacrifice of the Widow were those heretics. |
| Zireael02-27-07, 09:13 AM | Well, Selvetarm is NE. He's fully evil - sorry, Zanassu :D . |
| Lord Karsus02-27-07, 09:15 AM | Well, Selvetarm is NE. He's fully evil - sorry, Zanassu :D . -Zanassu was evil as well. That's where Selvetarm got all his..."evilness" from. Well, most of it, anyway. |
| BrennonGoldeye02-27-07, 08:37 PM | -But, in general, I think there is more to the story than meets the eye...I think we might see Selvetarm again, sometime in the future. I would bet real gold on this one. Just a prediction..:lightbulb.. The Children of Lloth have combined willingly to defeat Their Mother. Selvetarm truly knows what Granny is like now. Since E is Selvetarm's parent at this point, why couldn't E return a spiderless version to life...... He has a new draconic side coming up some time in june for my grunts..;) |
| MarkusTay6302-27-07, 09:09 PM | I would add in Khiaransalee into the mix of conspirators against Lolth. They all know she is much more powerful now, and to save their own skins they will have to work together to defeat her. And being HER children, wouldn't it be awesome if history repeats itself, and they get a bunch of powers together to help back their efforts? Lolth made a lot of enemies on her climb to the top, I could see Malar and Ghaunader jumping on the band wagon, and maybe even Gruumsh. It would be way cool to see them all beat her back down to a demi-god/Arch-fiend status. :D Just temporarily of course, like Mystra she probably hid a lot of her divine power in various 'Chosen'; she's slick like that. Would make a great follow-up trilogy - The return of the Spider Queen. ;) |
| Lord Karsus02-27-07, 10:52 PM | I would add in Khiaransalee into the mix of conspirators against Lolth. They all know she is much more powerful now, and to save their own skins they will have to work together to defeat her. And being HER children, wouldn't it be awesome if history repeats itself, and they get a bunch of powers together to help back their efforts? -Kiaransalee isn't one of Lolth's children. She's an ancient deity from another world who came to Realmspace because she...well, because she could. Kiaransalee actually became a deity long before Araushnee fell from the Seldarine, and became Lolth. |
| MarkusTay6302-27-07, 11:10 PM | You know, I wated to see which one of the an@l-retentive people on this site was going to correct that. It was actually a toss-up between YOU and a certain other 'scholar'. :D What I MEANT was that Vhaerun and Eilistraee would probably try to get as many of the other gods behind THEM, which of course would automatically include the other two Drow gods. When I typed that, I realized it could be mis-construed, but then I thought, who cares? :P You of all people should know by now that I know a 'little' something about the dark Elves. ;) One question, I remember reading somewhere (here?) that there was another Drow god, or perhaps just another child of Corellon and Aurunshee; Maybe it was in a Dragon article? |
| Lord Karsus02-28-07, 03:15 PM | You know, I wated to see which one of the an@l-retentive people on this site was going to correct that. It was actually a toss-up between YOU and a certain other 'scholar'. :D -I beat her to it. :P One question, I remember reading somewhere (here?) that there was another Drow god, or perhaps just another child of Corellon and Aurunshee; Maybe it was in a Dragon article? -You are probably thinking of Zinnazera (Sp.?). She is a minor demigoddess of assassination, whose name Lolth appropriated. She isn't a child of Corellon, or Araushnee, though. Like Kiaransalee, she was a foreign power. -Depending on some myths, Sehanine Moonbow is thought to be the daughter of Corellon, though. |
| BrennonGoldeye02-28-07, 04:13 PM | Ahh, my favorite pantheon. These people make the Greeks look frigid. El must have some elf in him somewhere.:rimshot: |
| immortalami02-28-07, 04:26 PM | Wouldnt the person who killed old eight-leg and weapons, become a demigoddess in her own right, kind of like Finder killing Moander and becoming a god? |
| Ioulaum02-28-07, 05:22 PM | Wouldnt the person who killed old eight-leg and weapons, become a demigoddess in her own right, kind of like Finder killing Moander and becoming a god? Her patron, E or L has to sent AO the paperwork first. Then AO has to stamp the paperwork. No godhood for C till the paperwork get sent in and approve and she better hope it doesn't wind up in the pile for the Celestial Bureaucracy. She could die of age before the paperwork gets approve. |
| BrennonGoldeye02-28-07, 05:23 PM | Wouldnt the person who killed old eight-leg and weapons, become a demigoddess in her own right, kind of like Finder killing Moander and becoming a god? Exactly. Now the question is three parted. Does Cavatina simply not yet understand what she is? or Did the sword actually absorb the power, and if so, what exactly is that sword? or Was Sel even killed at all? :plotting: |
| Jax_Nightstalker03-01-07, 01:39 PM | Wouldnt the person who killed old eight-leg and weapons, become a demigoddess in her own right, kind of like Finder killing Moander and becoming a god? No. The reason for that is because AO is the one, as someone stated in another way, is the one who approves who becomes a god and who doesn't. The reason Finder became a god is because Tymora appealed on his behalf or he would have been destroyed by Moander's godly essence. In most cases before a mortal becomes a demigod he or she is sponsored by a god case in point Velsharoon being sponsored by Talos. And Red Knight being sponsored by Tempus. AO though has the finally say. |
| The_Shaman03-02-07, 06:26 PM | However, what about if the blade is somehow given to Eilistraee? I think gods can, with minimal supervision, usurp each other's powers (Shar killing Ibrandul, Cyric killing? Leira, etc.) unless AO specifically objects. |
| MarkusTay6303-02-07, 06:48 PM | -I beat her to it. :P Sage is female? -You are probably thinking of Zinnazera (Sp.?). She is a minor demigoddess of assassination, whose name Lolth appropriated. She isn't a child of Corellon, or Araushnee, though. Like Kiaransalee, she was a foreign power. -Depending on some myths, Sehanine Moonbow is thought to be the daughter of Corellon, though. No, I was thinking of maybe one from Races of the Wild? I think she was mentioned in the 'Elven paladin' Thread. |
| Stigger03-02-07, 07:14 PM | Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LK was probably referring to Zanan there... |
| Lord Karsus03-02-07, 08:15 PM | Sage is female? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LK was probably referring to Zanan there... -Exactly. No, I was thinking of maybe one from Races of the Wild? I think she was mentioned in the 'Elven paladin' Thread. -Oh, oh, oh. I don't have that book, so I know nothing about that... |
| BrennonGoldeye03-03-07, 08:40 PM | -Oh, oh, oh. I don't have that book, so I know nothing about that... Priceless... |
| Lord Karsus03-03-07, 11:38 PM | Priceless... -Ever hear of Nybor's Mild Admonishment? ;) |
| Paledrow03-04-07, 12:41 AM | Wouldnt the person who killed old eight-leg and weapons, become a demigoddess in her own right, kind of like Finder killing Moander and becoming a god? If your statement above was true(its up to AO not by act), then the sword would attain godhood (the sword is most likely a god such as Vhaeaun in disguise anyway), not Cavatina...according to the sword. When C swung the sword killing S she said to herself "I have killed a god" ...the sword immedietly corrected her by stating "I have killed a god". It was a pretty strong statement by the sword, although I do think C was too dazzled by what happened to comprehend that she didn't really do much in the whole scenario. Sort of a pawn for greater powers so to speak. |
| Zanan03-04-07, 11:56 AM | Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LK was probably referring to Zanan there... Well, LK was wrong, he just did not know it himself. For I am surely not what MarkusTay63 was referring to with ... You know, I wated to see which one of the an@l-retentive people on this site was going to correct that. ... right? :shifty: Swords are just that, swords. Whether they are avatars or intelligent or made of wood. The wielder takes the plaudits, as Cyric did when wielding Mask's avatar form. We'll have to wait and see what was done ... and godhood may not become that visible instantly. Cavatina had some feeling of elation though ... |
| DarkSongKnight03-04-07, 12:17 PM | Actually, to my knowledge, Eilistraee now allows male followers, even clerics. Ed Greenwood said something about this. http://www.eilistraee.com//forums/viewtopic.php?t=384&sid=01616e7b62e00f2c6565292999f8aacf Your brother's character might experience some prejudice, but its better than having no divine powers at all. :) |

| Paledrow03-04-07, 05:03 PM | Swords are just that, swords. Whether they are avatars or intelligent or made of wood. The wielder takes the plaudits, as Cyric did when wielding Mask's avatar form. We'll have to wait and see what was done ... and godhood may not become that visible instantly. Cavatina had some feeling of elation though ... If you were replying to my comment... I agree with you 100%. Wasn't implying that a sword would rise to godhood, that would be rediculous. I was emphasizing that it wasn't Cavatina who killed Selvatarm when you boil down what really happened. :D |
| Stigger03-04-07, 05:16 PM | I was simply pointing out the error of Markus' assumption that it would have been Sage and not yourself... LK was the one who presumed you as the object of Markus' commentary, not I. :angelhide |
| Alediran03-04-07, 05:41 PM | -Ever hear of Nybor's Mild Admonishment? ;) I preffer Nybor's Stern Reproof. |
| Lord Karsus03-04-07, 06:06 PM | I preffer Nybor's Stern Reproof. -Yeah, but I don't want to hurt him that much. ;) I was simply pointing out the error of Markus' assumption that it would have been Sage and not yourself... LK was the one who presumed you as the object of Markus' commentary, not I. :angelhide -When someone mentions 'Drow', I think 'Zanan'. |
| Stigger03-04-07, 07:30 PM | Yet again proving that Markus should be the focus of ire and bile... oh well, better him than me. :D |
| Arbourean03-11-07, 03:04 AM | Lolth could easily masquerade as Selvetarm and continue to grant spells in his name. Correct me if I am wrong, but was it not only a faction of the Selvetargdlin (sp?) that wanted to worship him as a god separate from Lolth? I believe the Crescent Blade is an aspect of Zinzerena *cough*Lolth*cough*, much like Godsbane is of Mask. |
| Sylock03-21-07, 10:55 AM | Since the sword only started talking after it was reforged, and the sword no longer says "will not fail you" but says "will n- fail you" I do believe it's something new and speciall ... Lolth. |
| Book03-21-07, 12:14 PM | For the interim, now that Selvetarm is a bonafide "dead god", has the book mentioned who is definitively granting spells to Selvetarm's cleric until it's decided if Cavatina is ascended or another god grabs Selvy's portfolios? |
| Khaelieth03-21-07, 03:20 PM | Am I the only one finding Cavatina a bizarre name? Naming a protagonist after one of the most famous (If not the most famous) Spanish guitar pieces? Cavatina was even played in Deer Hunter. |
| QuenthelsChampion03-21-07, 03:54 PM | *spoiler* In the series the Selvetarm worshippers don't have their powers back they are pretty much SOL and have no powers. I also doubt that Lolth will give the worshippers their powers as Selvetarm because his worshippers betrayed Lolth and are mostly male. She is probally going to let them all die or go to another god. Unless what i feel about Cavatina becoming the new Divine champion of Lolth comes true. |
| XunValDorl of HouseKilsek03-21-07, 04:18 PM | If you want to continue to worship Selvetarm just take the feat that allows you to worship and be granted spells from dead gods. It's in the Lost Empires of Faerun can't remember the name off hand. You basically run on faith alone. |
| XunValDorl of HouseKilsek03-21-07, 04:31 PM | Tell me this. Why would Lolth want Selvetarm dead? What would be the point? I wouldn't doubt if Vhaeraun wasn't involved somehow. Hmm the gods better becareful. This one god becoming a sword and killing another god seems to be working. Next thing you know the entire pantheon will be an arsenal of weapons beginning mortals to weild them, or if not careful sitting on some shelf in a magic shop. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-21-07, 08:01 PM | :cheer:Woo-Hoo! Level 3!:cheer: |
| primemover00303-21-07, 08:05 PM | You know they have to go and cull half the pantheon just when they were starting to get interesting!!! I mean this was the first real detail on Selvatarms faithful I've seen in novels and they go and kill him off!!! I dug the Judicator and his nifty sword! |
| QuenthelsChampion03-21-07, 08:18 PM | Tell me this. Well if you read Sacrifice of the Widow all of your questions are answered, but heres the lay of the land. ****spoiler***** Selvetarm was starting to seperate his church from that of his Mistress Lolth. They were working with Vhaerun worshippers to kill off Elis and to get her powers. Lolth knew this and put Selvetarm in a vunerable spot for a certain Darksong Knight to find the sword and kill him. Vhaerun was then absorbed by Elis after a failed attack on her. In my opinion The Cresent Blade isn't a god it was just reforged by Lolth to corrupt Elis faith. In War of the Spider Queen it never spoke and yet now it does. Seems to fit perfectly, but is that the problem? Nothing concerning the Drow is ever what it first seems. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-21-07, 08:22 PM | Straight from the spider's mouth it would seem. :D |
| Alediran03-21-07, 10:26 PM | The problem is that Lolth is not counting The Seldarine supporting Eilistraee in her struggle. |
| mithralhammer03-22-07, 10:52 AM | dont you think this is lolths grand idea to get halisstra into the god club...then she will get the good parking spot! |
| QuenthelsChampion03-22-07, 12:05 PM | The problem is that Lolth is not counting The Seldarine supporting Eilistraee in her struggle. no no no Lolth counted on it alright. ****spoiler**** that is why she and Elis made the deal to go woman to woman as AO as their witness no one else would get involved. So even if daddy dearest wanted to help his only child (hehe) Either Elis would say no or AO would block him from doing so. He has no interest in family or alliances just the balance and the rules in line. Its between Daughter and Mother, Moonlight vs. Darkness. Should be fun to watch unfold. Straight from the spider's mouth it would seem.- Why thank you Bren haha. It's hard to be an evil priestess of Lolth these days haha. I seem to be the only or atleast the most vocal around here lol. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-22-07, 01:32 PM | Your very welcome Mistress.;) |
| Alediran03-22-07, 05:29 PM | I have the Bug-killer spray on my backpack, ready for use. Lolth should prepare for a big spank if she harms Eilistraee. |
| primemover00303-22-07, 09:33 PM | Yeah the black square appearing over Eilistraee's face at the end doesn't bode well. It will be cool to see if Kiaransalee and Ghuanadaur get dragged into this... Slimy G's already been alluded to enough. |
| The_Shaman03-22-07, 09:57 PM | In-te-res-ting... I can't say I approve if Lloth pulls the Selvetarm trick again, but this would be quite unexpected. |
| XunValDorl of HouseKilsek03-22-07, 11:34 PM | Well I haven't read any of the books but I doubt Lolth will end of gone. Hurt maybe but not dead. Elis is the only good drow deity I doubt they will kill her off. I'd say make her a greater goddess so her and Lolth can bicker on equal terms. Ghaun has been around longer than most deities, it is even older than Lolth, I doubt it will get involved. Honestly I wouldn't have messed with the drow pantheon. I thought it was fine the way it was. It was getting even more interesting with Lolth's ascension. Oh well we will see what happens. |
| Lord Karsus03-22-07, 11:50 PM | Your very welcome Mistress.;) -Ahem...:ahem: It will be cool to see if Kiaransalee and Ghuanadaur get dragged into this... Slimy G's already been alluded to enough. -I surely hope not. Leave Kiaransalee and the Big G out of all of this craziness. It's not like either one of them really care who wins and who loses. They all hate each other, anyway... |
| Khaelieth03-23-07, 04:46 AM | I have the Bug-killer spray on my backpack, ready for use. Lolth should prepare for a big spank if she harms Eilistraee. I hope Lolth goes medieval on her arse and turns the drow away from all the wishy-washy hippie, naked dancing rituals. Much more fun with the drow known as Baldrick going "I've got a cunnin' plan!" in Spider Queen style! |
| BrennonGoldeye03-23-07, 07:14 AM | -Ahem...:ahem: Just being polite boss.:D Guess I never fully got over those 20yrs as a drow house-boy.;) |
| Stigger03-23-07, 07:17 AM | Don't ask too many questions, he might go into detail over uniforms... |
| Alediran03-23-07, 09:50 AM | I hope Lolth goes medieval on her arse and turns the drow away from all the wishy-washy hippie, naked dancing rituals. Much more fun with the drow known as Baldrick going "I've got a cunnin' plan!" in Spider Queen style! *Cast Permanent Silence for a Spider-Kisser" |
| Lord Karsus03-23-07, 10:27 AM | I hope Lolth goes medieval on her arse and turns the drow away from all the wishy-washy hippie, naked dancing rituals. -Heh, you know, if Drow males learned that the majority of Eilistraee's rituals involve complete and total nudity, on the part of the female, they'd all be there in a heartbeat. Just being polite boss.:D Guess I never fully got over those 20yrs as a drow house-boy.;) -Alright, just makin' sure... |
| QuenthelsChampion03-23-07, 03:18 PM | *Cast Permanent Silence for a Spider-Kisser" Permanent Silence for a Spider-Kisser? Them seem like fighten words fella. *takes out her whip of snakes and her buckler shield* haha And the second book is called Storm of the Dead so to me i assume that Kir and Ghaun are going to be in it some way, shape, or form. They even mentions them in the last one. I hope Ghaun dies though. A god who makes all his slime worshippers too stupid to worship him and now has to feed off the drow for worship isn't a god i want walking around anymore. Kir i like because she poses such a great threat to Lolth without even knowing it. My players main villian is an Kir priestess who always finds a way to escape death and bring an undead force or an evil plot together. |
| Alediran03-23-07, 03:23 PM | Actually that spell was for the other spider-lover, for a priestess I have the "Permanent Convertion to Corellon's Faith" |
| BrennonGoldeye03-23-07, 09:37 PM | Why cast a spell when a bow will do. ;) |
| Lord Karsus03-25-07, 11:24 PM | I hope Ghaun dies though. A god who makes all his slime worshippers too stupid to worship him and now has to feed off the drow for worship isn't a god i want walking around anymore. -Theoretically, Ghaunadaur cannot die, since he is some kind of primordal...thing. I like Big G, though, so I'm biased. Why cast a spell when a bow will do. ;) -Or a bow, as in the gesture of respect. Why do something yourself when you can have a friend, or an ally do it for you? |
| BrennonGoldeye03-26-07, 07:16 AM | -Or a bow, as in the gesture of respect. Why do something yourself when you can have a friend, or an ally do it for you? Yep yep.;) |
| Paledrow03-28-07, 11:14 PM | Some here are saying the Seldarine would probably not help Eilistraee. Who is to say they have not already. It has recently come to my attention that Corellon explicitly warned Vhaeraun in the Evermeet novels, that the day he went against his sister would be the end of his existence? (Paraphrased from the novel. ) Well he went against his sister and now he’s gone, just like that. Possibly Corellon intervened when Vhaeraun moved against his sister, as was promised by him that time ago. Possibly it was daddy waiting for Vhaeraun on the other side of that gate. |
| Spelldancer03-29-07, 02:32 AM | One question, that I curious about. Would Sharess have felt this? Seeing that Selvetam is sort of her son, be it from Zandilar. One of the more interesting connections that Sharress has that I think gets missed. Though I hope the sword is not a god, as it would just seem like they are rehashing an old plot that was kind of cool. Though maybe it is Mask really, seeking to gain more power with the drow :P |

Though I hope the sword is not a god, as it would just seem like they are rehashing an old plot that was kind of cool. Though maybe it is Mask really, seeking to gain more power with the drow :P Everyone forgets Zandilar. :( Poor Zandilar! :P I would think Sharess would have felt it, since it logically would have been Sharess (Bast(et al)*/Zandilar) who gave "birth" to him, so to speak, since she absorbed Zandilar shortly after her encounter with Vhaeraun... Then again, one must be careful not to fall into the trap of over anthropomorphizing deities, anything is possible... Now, know I have not actually read the novel mentioned in this thread - I'm completely confused as to what is going on... Someone want to give me a full paraphrase/parse of the novel (feel free to PM me, to save others from spoilers)? I haven't been able to bring myself to read a Realms novel in some years, even when the storyline has intrigued me... So I've kind of lived off spoilers and current game resources. I can't see myself picking this book up any time soon - my gut tells me it will be a bad end for Eilistraee, since that seems to be the way things go in the Realms. :weep: * Don't forget that Zandilar wasn't the first deity Bast absorbed by any stretch. |

Usually with some RSE involved that no DM in their right mind would ever even consider unleashing on the Realms... I think that's been happening for a while now, starting with the incorporation of the Shadow Weave into the Realms. (/rant on) I hope, genuinely hope to the bottom of my heart, that Eilistraee comes out of this intact, stronger (that doesn't necessarily mean more powerful, mind you), and most importantly still GOOD ALIGNED! (Do you hear me authors and designers? Eilistraee = GOOD! Chaotic or Neutral (with regard to Law and Chaos), but GOOD.) (/rant off) Ah, that feels better. |

| Lord Karsus03-29-07, 01:10 PM | It has solid logic, if Lisa read that part of Evermeet: IotE then I'm sure it's the truth about what happened to Vhaeraun. -It does make sense. Well, hopefully she stayed true to that little piece of lore, and more information will become availible as the next book is released. |
| Khaelieth03-29-07, 02:28 PM | Vhaeraun as CG?! ARGH, NO! I'm getting a rash all over my lovely gold elf skin just by thinking the thought! |
| Red_Wizard03-29-07, 03:15 PM | no no no Lolth counted on it alright. Not so, the agreement was only for that move. Lolth lost Selvatarm in the exchange, and now the game is open to new happenings. Also, Vhaeruan being consumed by Eilistraee is effectively being destroyed...All he was and stood for, and represented is gone. That doesn't mean he is gone, nor below being able to corrupt the goody goody of the family. So Corellon could still be seen as correct, when looked at from a less literal, round about view point. And really, isn't that what all the gods do? :P |

| Alediran03-29-07, 04:28 PM | Not only that, being the father of both he "can" influence AO in some way to allow Eilistraee the powers of Vhaeraun without the corruption. |
| Razz03-29-07, 04:35 PM | In my campaign the leader of the cities forces are all loyal selvetarm worshippers. QC I am quite angry at them *killing off Selvetarm AND Vhaeraun in one novel. I hate how the Realms novels do such dramatic events so quickly, there can never just be a NORMAL day in Faerun or something.* You can simply have it where those events don't transpire. I do. I am sincerely thinking about not reading any more Forgotten Realms novels because they keep drastically changing the world too much and ruining my campaigns. They need to realize that their writing is But if you're a stickler for canon material, which the novels are, there's also a feat in Lost Empires of Faerun called Servant of the Fallen. Have PCs or NPCs take the feat, choose a dead deity and you're set. |
| Zandilar03-30-07, 08:20 PM | Heya, I am quite angry at them *killing off Selvetarm AND Vhaeraun in one novel. I hate how the Realms novels do such dramatic events so quickly, there can never just be a NORMAL day in Faerun or something.* Novels about Faerun aren't about ordinary days, otherwise what would be the point of reading them? Still, I do agree that there are too many novels that fall into the category of completely over-the-top... That, and the inherant sexism in Realms novels is the reason why I stopped reading them. I would be sad to see Vhaeraun be gone permanently. From what I've seen of the storyline as presented on this thread, it looks like there's an argument that could be made that Vhaeraun isn't dead... Still I don't like the implications of this, not for Vhaearun (who's followers made a great foil for PC Eilistraeeans/Eilistraeean plots), and especially not for Eilistraee. Like you said, we could just not accept the new canon. I'm tempted to do that, but I'll wait and see (and no, I won't be reading the novels, I'll be relying on spoilers or new source material dealing with them). |
| Dr_Tough03-30-07, 09:04 PM | Well, there are two good (easy) ways to handle this. 1. Simply say that in your campaign Selvetarm doesn't die. I mean, its not like Ed Greenwood is going to come bursting into your house and arrest you just because you don't use the new canon. 2. If you do want Selvetarm to die, perhaps a drow god(dess) from another prime world swoops in and takes his worshippers. The drow (and elf, and dwarf, and gnome, etc.) deities in the FRCS aren't the only drow deities in existance. They're just the ones currently active in Faerun. However, an enterprising deity with no worshippers on Faerun might see events as a chance to gain a foothold. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-30-07, 10:53 PM | Zandilar, if it makes you feel any better I think Sel isn't dead. Neither is Vel. It's all a plot against L. :D |
| Lord Karsus03-30-07, 11:01 PM | -Not that again. B is not going to continue on saying that E, V and S are plotting against L. I, K, however, agree with B, to a point, and I think that E and V are plotting against L. |
| BrennonGoldeye03-30-07, 11:06 PM | See, you agree that V and E are plotting against shnee. I say Sel was rescued as well. :bl: |
| QuenthelsChampion03-30-07, 11:10 PM | Zandilar, if it makes you feel any better I think Sel isn't dead. Neither is Vel. It's all a plot against L. :D ******* plot against Lolth...pulling the wool over the eyes of a goddess whos job is lies and manipulation....don't think so..i don't care if Elis is good and Lolth is evil still not gonna happen haha. If anything a new god is going to take over Selvetarms mantle. Selvetarm has done his purpose now its time for a better champion. *insert evil laugh* QC |
| Lord Karsus03-30-07, 11:10 PM | -Perhaps. I do think that E and V are plotting against L. I think, however, that S was just an "innocent bystander" who got "caught up" in the war. I might be wrong, though. |

| Lord Karsus03-30-07, 11:30 PM | plot against Lolth...pulling the wool over the eyes of a goddess whos job is lies and manipulation....don't think so -Vhaeraun, Kiaransalee, and to a lesser degree, Ghaunadaur, Eilistraee and (in his time) Selvetarm all did it. The entire Anti-Seldarine is a dysfunctional family. Their only common bond is that Drow worship all of them- otherwise, they wouldn't be lumped in together. |

Their only common bond is that Drow worship all of them- otherwise, they wouldn't be lumped in together. I am also in the hopes that V and E are in cahoots. But of late, I am starting to think C has put his hand into this more then people think. (or at least I am in the hopes of seeing this played out) Also, just because C calls himself a goody god does not absolve him of his hand in the family's disfunctional state. I keep seeing over and over the philosophy of seperation between the Seldarine and the anti-Sels. But he is still their father regardless and if he is the goody he pompously struts around as, then lets see him put his powers to work to make a change for the better instead of abandoning his family. *a devil's advocate now steps down from the soapbox* |
| Zandilar03-31-07, 04:01 AM | Heya, Ah, I agree with this. I just have a feeling. Sel is just the perfect canidate for salvation. Just something these (g)old eyes see as a posibility. Tehe. Ah well. I think I will get to that research now that Stigger is well asleep. Nite all.;) Ugh, please... No salvation of Selvatarm! If he's dead, let him stay that way... If he's not, let him remain corrupted/evil. (I am not a fan of the prior implication of a romantic relationship between Selvatarm and Eilistraee, and would rather not see them brought together by his salvaltion, as they invariably would be... Selfish of me, I know.) If Selvatarm had been Good to begin with I'd feel a great deal of sympathy for him, being "tricked" the way he was... I'd fight for his right to be redeemed as passionately as anyone else of a Good alignment. However, Selvatarm wasn't good - he was only just begining to respond to Eilistraee's influence - in the end, he made the choice to do what he did at Lolth's request. He could have repudiated the corrupting godly power, but he didn't. He made his own bed, let him lie in it. Of course, I could be wrong in my interpretation of the facts, and if I am I quite look forward to being corrected. (Debate is one of the ways I learn new things. :)) (Zandilar: My poor son, my poor poor son. Meh... oooh cute goddess... *wanders off following said goddess*) |
| BrennonGoldeye03-31-07, 10:13 AM | (Zandilar: My poor son, my poor poor son. Meh... oooh cute goddess... *wanders off following said goddess*) Oh, where *wanders off following Zandilar* |
| Lord Karsus03-31-07, 06:04 PM | Oh, where *wanders off following Zandilar* -Wait for me. If Zandilar has got the hots for another goddess, I'm there. I am not a fan of the prior implication of a romantic relationship between Selvatarm and Eilistraee... -Ew, divine incest. Eilistraee is Selvetarm's Aunt, after all. |
| Zandilar03-31-07, 07:19 PM | Heya, -Wait for me. If Zandilar has got the hots for another goddess, I'm there. Oy! I saw her first! :P -Ew, divine incest. Eilistraee is Selvetarm's Aunt, after all. Well, gods are kind of beyond that. They're really beyond any kind of human sexuality too - though Sharess, Sune, and Hanali Celanil and any other deity of love and/or sex are probably not, due to the nature of their portfolios... But given the permissive nature of the Realms, most types of sexuality are acceptable, and thus I'm sure they're equally representive. You could possibly also add Loviatar and Ilmater for those of Evil and Good alignment interested in S/M, and maybe Bane for those interested in BD. I feel there's a lack of males in that short list, but I'm at a loss which others might fit, especially for who to add for the gay boys (though I'm sure they'd like Lathander and Corellon ;))... Of course, all the aformentioned deities could appear male (or female) at their whim - which adds an extra dimension to everything! (Gender bending omnisexual deities!) Deific incest is really quite common in many Earth mythologies. In Greek mythology, Hera is Zeus's sister, and she's also his lover and wife (just because he wandered, doesn't mean he didn't have sex with Hera!). In Egyptian mythology, Isis, Osiris, Nephtys, and Set were siblings, but were also spouses (Isis and Osiris, Nepthys and Set). Anyway, this is kind of beyond the scope of this topic, so I'll shut up for now. :P |
| Lord Karsus03-31-07, 08:36 PM | Oy! I saw her first! :P -Bah...I'll watch then. I feel there's a lack of males in that short list, but I'm at a loss which others might fit, especially for who to add for the gay boys (though I'm sure they'd like Lathander and Corellon). -Judging from what I know of Dan, gay individuals do indeed (him, at least) appreciate both Lathander and Corellon Larethian. | Zandilar04-01-07, 02:57 AM | Heya, And Tempus, don't forget Tempus. And Torm on a humid day. Grrrrrrr....:angelhide Note that both my daughters like that joke, lol....... Hmm I dunno if I get that joke... :embarrass And here I thought I was corrupt. Ah well... I could see Torm on the BIG GAY list of deities... But his portfolio has little to do with sexuality... I do know Sune has chased him from time to time, but she's such a flighty lady, show her something pretty and she'll be distracted... (Something I'm sure Sharess, who's beauty is said to almost rival Sune's herself, has used to her advantage from time to time.) But as I said before, this is kind of going beyond the scope of this thread... And I just keep adding to the Off-Topicness, bad Zandilar. I guess I'll just have to go see Loviatar for the appropriate punishment... ;) @Lord Karsus - you know what goddesses are apt to do, when someone spys on them when they shouldn't? *smiles sweetly* I'm sure you don't want to go blind! ;) |
| The_Shaman04-01-07, 09:00 AM | I prefer the turned into a stag bit, though, and it's quite fitting for a hunt goddess. Just be sure not to have any dogs with you, LK! Anyway, I wonder if Lloth will elevate another to be her champion. Yet I'd think that with Vhaerun gone, she may have less problems keeping her back blade-free in the first place. Somehow, I think the Dark Maiden has a lot of scheming to do before she can pull one over on her mother. Edit: Hmm, Sune, Sharess and the like might be worthy patrons of any sexuality - I wouldn't be surprised if at least the latter is fond of using shapeshifting magic to see how life is on the other side of the fence. |
| GothicDan04-01-07, 01:34 PM | Lathander and Corellon. Mmmm. Torm - maybe 'Mmmm' too. If Talos didn't have a beard, I'd think he was sexy, too. |
| BrennonGoldeye04-01-07, 02:27 PM | -I don't know what I'm more surprised at- the fact that Tempus and Torm on a humid day were brought up, or that you have multiple daughters. Oh well, I had a duty to the clan. Got it done early. They are both blessings, if not the definition of pain. The eldest has a little Sam and twins on the way. And me not out of my 30's yet. Darwin would be proud.;) Lathander and Corellon. Mmmm. Torm - maybe 'Mmmm' too. If Talos didn't have a beard, I'd think he was sexy, too. Mmmm... Faerun Ami... |
| Morgil04-02-07, 09:32 AM | Back on topic: I'm sure there could be another explanaition why the sword is sentient/inteligent/cmmunicating: I've read somewhere there is a dragon posing as a number of swords. Perhaps he has slain Selvatarm.... |
| Lord Karsus04-02-07, 10:51 AM | They are both blessings, if not the definition of pain. -Enjoy that while it lasts. My sister is turning 16, and she has been in that "teenager" mode for a few months now. :nonono: -Why do they do that? I know I never did that? @Lord Karsus - you know what goddesses are apt to do, when someone spys on them when they shouldn't? *smiles sweetly* I'm sure you don't want to go blind! ;) -You forget who you are dealing with, though. I'm Karsus! :ayyyy!: -How 'bout you and I go cruising for mortals and/or demideities together? Well be unstoppable. :D |
| BrennonGoldeye04-02-07, 08:37 PM | I'm coming too. This way we cover all the bases.:tie: I payed Shadez to watch LK's place and feed his "dog".:dragon: I've got dinner reservations for 3 in Union, and passes for a club I know in Sigil. :dancin: As to poor Sel, I still think we will see more of Him. |
| Lord Karsus04-03-07, 12:10 AM | I'm coming too. This way we cover all the bases.:tie: -Good, good. The more the merrier. I payed Shadez to watch LK's place and feed his "dog".:dragon: -Ah, excellent. Pass it on that my pet usually eats five to seven goats for breakfast, and eight to ten for dinner. I've got dinner reservations for 3 in Union, and passes for a club I know in Sigil. :dancin: -Since I technically only count as 1/3 a person, I'll take KtM along, too. As to poor Sel, I still think we will see more of Him. -Oh, yeah, Selvetarm. Eh, who knows? |
| Zandilar04-03-07, 04:08 AM | Heya, Oh excellent! Party in Sigil! :D Anyone else want to join in? Umm... hey, I thought deities weren't allowed in Sigil? Ah never mind... I'll just go and visit Sune instead. ;) |
| Zireael04-03-07, 08:57 AM | Selvetarm and Eilistraee... nice :D or Lloth with Vhaeraun :D :D :D what do you think about L&V? |
| Lord Karsus04-03-07, 12:40 PM | what do you think about L&V? -I don't think they are in cahoots. Sure, they've gotten along in the past, but ever since Lolth first came to Realmspace, she has been enemies with Vhaeraun. And, with Vhaeraun's actions during Lolth's silence, and now, with the events of Sacrifice of the Widow, I'm sure the emnity is deeper. -Although, looking at the title, Sacrifice of the Widow, Lolth is obviously the Widow, so perhaps she sacrificed Selvetarm on purpose, knowing she would achieve a better goal later on... |
| BrennonGoldeye04-03-07, 03:58 PM | Umm... hey, I thought deities weren't allowed in Sigil? Ah never mind... I'll just go and visit Sune instead. Accompany us Mi'Lady. You can stay in Union with a few of the Godkissed I know.:) |
| Alediran04-04-07, 08:05 AM | As long as we don't enter you know where I have no problem visiting Sigil for the twelfth time (in a week) :D |
| BrennonGoldeye04-04-07, 10:02 AM | No worries, I have all the paperwork and get out of jail free card from the Lady. Just no Gates or summoning allowed.;) |
| Zandilar04-04-07, 08:40 PM | Heya, No worries, I have all the paperwork and get out of jail free card from the Lady. Just no Gates or summoning allowed.;) Sounds like it could be fun... Now... Who's bringing the Ambrosia? |
| BrennonGoldeye04-04-07, 09:16 PM | I'll foot the bill(buisness expense;) )but I'm alergic. The Karsi have quite a thirst, and will most likely be packing. Maybe LK will bring Bubbles. You just have to meet this dwelven waitress. I swear this was KtM's reaction the first time he met her.:emp:.:mymy:..:smirk:.:emp: Sure to be a hoot. :tie: |
| TheCrescentSpider04-05-07, 09:11 PM | I think that Eilistraee(sp?) should give powers to men, if for no other reason than to be as much unlike Lolth as possible. I hate that rule and would just ignore it if it were my game. You're probably right with this, but Eilistrae killed Vhaeraun and took his portfolio, but when Cavatina killed Selvatarm, she didn't add his portfolio to the Dark Maiden, as in the end, you see Lolth having to sacrafice him. if this is true, then she took on his portfolio, or will appoint another champion and give him that protfolio. |

You still need Aos approval, and thus far, we do not know if he has or hasn't approved anything. I'll foot the bill(buisness expense;) )but I'm alergic. The Karsi have quite a thirst, and will most likely be packing. Maybe LK will bring Bubbles. You just have to meet this dwelven waitress. I swear this was KtM's reaction the first time he met her.:emp:.:mymy:..:smirk:.:emp: -I hope you'll be able to find a way though the law that bars Dwelves from traveling to other Planes/Crystal Spheres without an Multispheriversic Passport. Torilian Customs has stopped issuing them... |
