hey,
I am a DM of a dragonlance world. And I have a problem:
In my party there is a sorcerer that loves illusionmagic and he all so completed a test (the test of high sorcery, to gain more powers and he succeed). But now he wants to do research on the shadow plane, for the simple reason, he wants to get pure illusion magic out of the shadow plane to use it on his enemys and experiments. I have told him that this will be very difficult and will take a lot of time.
I already asked someone els but he told of the Shadow Weave. I don't know match of it but from what i know it seems to be very intersting.
So I have a fuw questions, I hope someone can give me some answers or suggetions:

1) What is the shadow weave (some kind of magical portal where magic can be pulled out, other some kind of other plane ...???? NEED MORE INFO pleas.)

2) If a sorcerer use a lott of this Shadow Weave magic can it change him?, like for example: he get some shadow-like ablilitys or becomes a shadow-like creature or someting els...

3) If he gets infected can you give me some ideas for new ability's, feats, extra feats or something extra ordinaire? It do not always has to be a good thing what will happen to him, so there may be also curse-like things.

4) What is they prestige class, the Shadow Adept??? maybe I can use some idea's of this class. I can not take all idea's because the sorcerer is already a mage of high sorcery, so he can't take anymore a other prestige class.

already thanks for helping;)

The Shadow Weave is supposedly a creation of the goddess Shar in the Forgotten Realms. It acts as the 'shadow' to the normal Weave maintained by the goddess Mystra.

Since there is no Weave on Krynn, I find it hard to adapt the Shadow Weave. You'll need a reason for it to exist.

I suggest using other shadow magic classes. Take a look at Races of Stone. The Shadowcraft Mage PrC in that book is easily adaptable to non-gnomes.

On a related note: The Tome of Magic introduced the Shadowcaster base class. It has a new mechanic, and a feat allowing other casters to use the mysteries should be craftable.

Sorry I ask but what is the Weave??? I can't imagine what it is, the goddess Mystra created it, but is it some kind of magic-item, portal, magic-pool,...?

I was thinking to let the sorcerer find a portal to the shadow plane. And there he is going to here of the Shadow Weave, but hwo I don't know at the moment. Is the Shadow Weave in the shadow plane or is it placed on a other world of forgotten realms?

To understand the Shadow Weave you must know what the Weave is.

As a general definition, the Weave is an intangible "force field" created by the goddess of magic Mystra (actually, Mystra IS the Weave) that channels the raw power of magic so spellcasters can use it.

So, Shar, the goddes of Darkness, created the Shadow Weave using "the space between the threads of the Weave" (you must actually imagine the Weave as a... huh... well, a weave). A spellcaster using the Shadow Weave improves his spells from the Enchantment, Illusion and Necromancy schools but worsens those from the Evocation and Transmutation schools (except those with the Darkness descriptor) and no longer can cast spells with the Light descriptor.

The Weave is what all magic is drawn from in Faerun. It's an encompasing "Weave" of raw energy, that is controlled and cared for by the goddess of magic, Mystra. It's not an item, think of it kinda like an invisible Nebula, surrounding a planet, through which people who know how can draw power from it. Or, think of it as a spherical tapestry, invisible, and again surrounding the planet Abeir Toril.

The Shadow weave (while not yet fully explained as one sole thing), is basically the negitive of the weave. It filles the gaps between the strands of the weave, and where the Weave is Raw Energy, the Shadow Weave, is True Darkness.

Incorporating it, really isn't that hard. Just remove the Shar prereq, keep the wisdom one, and your set. There is no real need to say you draw from a weave, just treat it as him discovering a new way to bend the energies of shadow to his will. the PrC Shadow Adept, could also be fairly easily converted, so then he has something to build into.

Both the four shadow weave feats, and the Shadow Adept, can be found in the source "Players Guide to Faerun"

Red Wizard pretty much said it all. If your on Krynn, and your sorcerer is using shadow magic, I would assume he's taken the black robes. If he's not, then I might suggest he take one step from the color of robes he's wearing like from white to red or from red to black. Another thought was that the god Nuitari has givin him some new spells/abilities for discovering shadow magic.
