Sheogorath of FR [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-11-07, 02:57 AM Hello. It's been a long time since I last wrote here. My campaign's nearing its end, and so is the fall semester.

I've been playing the Elder Scrolls series, and the concept of Sheogorath seemed a lovely idea to implement in my future campaigns. He's the Daedric Prince of Madness, and is often simply called the Madgod. He is also the patron of artists, musicians, and crazy visionaries.

I know there is already a god of madness in FR, which is Cyric, but if you know both Sheogorath and Cyric, you'll understand that their 'madness' is of different kinds.

So, is there any other gods (or powers) of Madness in FR? Perhaps someone who is quite similar to Sheogorath?

cyric is not mad, he's just psycotic and full of himself, which doesnt scream madness to me

Well, madness isn't Cyric's portfolio, but he seems mad to me, and that's what I'm aiming for. The fact that my players believe Cyric suffers from a personlity split doesn't help either (I, as a DM, allow my players to define certain aspects of their campaign).

Also, I'm not going for a Loki-style god many people like to have. In the Elder Scrolls that's Lorkhan, and Sheogorath is definantly not like Lorkhan, and so Sheogorath wouldn't be a Loki-style deity, although the patron of creative mania and psychopathic dementia would do well in the mantle of the great trickster.

12-11-07, 09:36 AM I Thought that the portfolio of madness was held by that bundle of fun, the god of oozes, slimes, and jellies...Ghaunador! The elder elemental evil himself.

Or am I up way too early for my own good? :confused:

12-15-07, 06:43 PM Finder Wyvernspurs portfolio for transformation of art resembles your madness god of artists and visionairies in the Realms the best. Maybe Oghma fits too.

Baghtru shows stupidity but that doesnt count as madness I guess. Urdlen the gnomish white molegod shows gnomish madness to its extremes, with greed, bloodlust and uncontrolled impulses as portfolios.

12-15-07, 07:20 PM Sheogorath doesn't really have a Faerunian equivalent, but then he operates on a somewhat different level than FR gods do in any case, including connections to the rest of TES cosmology which don't really match up to any FR god all that well.

If you wanted to introduce him with any sort of equivalency then he'd have to be part of the original creation process, perhaps representing the "Sithis-shaped hole" between the duality of Shar and Selune, or arising similarly when Mystryl was created. (Though obviously the term Sithis wouldn't be used, per se.)

12-16-07, 02:16 AM The fact that he was originally Jyggalag, Daedric Prince of Logical Order, and was cursed to become the very incarnation of everything he stood against, doesn't help either. But the origins doesn't have to match, the thing I'm aiming for is personality, not history.

Finder Wyverspur... that's a very promising god. Thank you, Suin Bahhar, I'll see to ways to implememt madness to him immediatly.

By the way, like all other Daedric Princes in the TES universe, Sheogorath also seeks power. His portfolio is madness, and thus to gain followers he 'blesses' them, that is, drives them mad. Paranoids, Illogical thinkers, Psycopaths, Fanatic Visionaries all fall under his domain. He actively seeks out ways to drive people mad, and sometimes does that just for fun.

He once made it rain burning dogs, but that was part of a grander scheme to drive a whole town mad...
