| Hogun_The_Grim08-27-07, 11:45 PM | I have a few questions about the Elven deity Shevarash I was hoping to get some help with. First of all a little background on my situation. I am trying to develop an elven character for a campaign that delves into the Underdark. I was thinking along the lines of an elven "tunnel rat/drow hunter" type character. Most of the other players will be playing Dwarf characters, and I want to come up with a kick a$$ Elf to impress these gruff and battle hardened characters. Looking through sources, I noticed the Elven deity Shevarash and the write up regarding his hatred and constant battles against Lloth and the Drow. I imagine an elven fighter who worships Shevarash and has trained his whole life to battle the Drow and has joined up with these dour Dwarfs. My questions are: 1. Where can I find more information about Shevarash? 2. What sub-race of elf was Shevarash in his mortal life? 3. Where can I find more information about the Dark Court Slaughter? 4. What sub-race of elf would tend to follow Shevarash? 5. Where would one find a suitable location for an enclave of Shevarash worshipers? 6. What type of weapons and tactics would a follower of Shevarash employ. Any help given would be greatly appreciated. |
| Old Sage08-28-07, 12:02 AM | 1. See the entry for 'Shevarash' in Demihuman Deities. 2. Green elf -- as noted in Cormanthyr. 3. See Demihuman Deities, Lost Empires of Faerūn, and Cormanthyr. There may be more coming in Grand History of the Realms. 4. From the entry for 'Shevarash' in Demihuman Deities:- The clergy of Shevarash includes green elves (33%), moon elves (32%), gold elves (29%), and half-elves of those subraces (6%).5. 'Vault of Unquenched Vengeance' -- see the entry for 'Shevarash' in Demihuman Deities. 6. Again, see the entry for 'Shevarash' in Demihuman Deities. |

| Mad Mage08-28-07, 03:32 AM | Note: "Green Elves" by 3.X standards tends be a nickname for Wild Elves. Back in the 2nd Edition realms, Green Elves were a mixture of the Wild Elves and Wood Elves (also known today as Copper Elves). :teach: |
| Old Sage08-28-07, 12:20 PM | Indeed. As it is, 1e/2e FR sourcebooks make the connection between wild and wood elves and how they were essentially the same race. Elaine Cunningham's novels during 2e that feature wood/wild elven characters also portray this and she has made comments about it over at Candlekeep. Now in 3e, we have Races of Faerūn telling us that in the aftermath of the savage Crown Wars, it was then that the green elves went in one of two racial directions -- leading to the split in 1e/2e Green/Wood/Wild Elves that we now see in 3e. Some stayed kind of wild and remained greens, or civilised a touch and became wood [copper] elves. |

| 1 ton ghost08-28-07, 02:04 PM | alignment predispositions favor wild given most are CN and synch to patron deity's accordingly. anyone w/ a grudge vs. drow and/or humanity though fits the bill. i imagine quite a few Justices of Weal and Woe (Champions of Ruin[ excellent PrC btw]) claim him as patron deity. not the friendliest god, but terribly effective. i imagine his power if growing significantly w/ so many prayers and so forth due to all the action in Cormanthor, etc. |
| MerrikCale08-28-07, 09:16 PM | So it looks like Demihuman Deities would be the best source for more information. Thanks Old Sage. Thats true for pretty much any question on non-human deities |
| Hogun_The_Grim08-28-07, 11:37 PM | Hey thanks for the input. Just thinking out loud about this character and I am leaning towards Wood Elf as race over Wild Elf. I think Wood Elf would be a little more civilized and open to adventuring and joining up with a Dwarven party. Do you agree? |
| Old Sage08-29-07, 12:26 AM | The thing is, which subrace would more likely worship the Black Archer? :thinks:Given that the Dark Court Slaughter occured after the Crown Wars... it may be that those elves who are the primary subrace to worship Shevarash, are among the Wood [Copper] Elf branch. Though, I'd imagine there are still more than a few groups of Shevarash worshippers among the other elven subraces, as the older reference in Demihuman Deities indicates. Whether or not this now includes significant numbers among the wild elves, given the 3e split, hasn't been specifically noted in the Realmslore, as I recall. |

I think Wood Elf would be a little more civilized and open to adventuring and joining up with a Dwarven party. Do you agree?Wood elves would probably be a reasonable choice, for the reasons that I noted above. Though, so long as you can explain it through your character's history, or through background Realmslore in your own campaign, it's entirely possible that your character could also be from among one of the other elven subraces, as the reference from Demihuman Deities notes. |
| Zanan08-29-07, 04:34 AM | Realms of the Elves, the anthology companion to the Last Mythal series, has a short story on Shevarash followers. It gives a very neat impression of this hate-filled lot, much like Sacrifice of the Widow introduces us to the "real world" of the Eilistraee lasses. |

| Green Elven Vampire08-30-07, 04:02 AM | I see Wild elves worshiping the elven deity Fenmarel Mestarine more than Sheverash. |
