Besides "She was flippin nutz" does anyone have a theory on why Mystra hurled Herself at Helm during the ToT? I have a couple of players with some very interesting ideas and I would like to have a few more. Note- I said besides "She was flippin nutz". This isn't a request for a critique of the Goddess, just a search for alternate reasons for Her actions. SWLL all.:elf:

Hurled herself at Helm? More like she really didn't realize that Helm would seriously put the smack down on her. There were rumors that the two had been romantically linked just prior to the ToT, so she might have thought that he would allow an exception to his guarding to her. In all cases, Mystra flat-out underestimated what Helm was capable of and what he was willing to do to follow his duty.

Maybe Mystra still had a *thing* for Helm. Maybe she wanted to give him a big divine embrace before the end. Maybe she wanted to see whether Helm truly loved her...

...Maybe I should stop thinking so much about Mystra and Helm's one time relationship. :D

Weariness of her job and wanting to pass it on to someone else maybe... and doing it in a suitably dramatic fashion... dunno really, but it seems as good a reason as any.

Didn't Mystra, as a mortal, used to be a mentally retarded woman being cared for by relatives, who just got lucky when Mystryl died?

If so, then it could make sense that when she was cast down in the Time of Troubles, she had a minor throwback to her mortal days. ;)

She expressed her weariness to El during the book ‘making of a Mage’. I think she new that her death was coming. She unlike most of the other Gods planes for it by storing divine energy in mortal vessels. She might have thought she had a shot at getting past the guardian. Or she new her fate an embraced it. I mean she made sure that Midnight witnessed everything. Perhaps it was the only way she could give up the office. The burden of the centuries was a lot for her to bear. I mean she had recently freed the demigod of divinations. So maybe she new the Realms were about to change and that the guardian of the weave needed fresh blood with a different perspective!

This question has always puzzled me as well. It bears further analysis.

Maybe she simply thought that telling AO where the Tablets were would get him to allow them back to "heaven" and that Helm would let her past to do this. As for her continuing to attack Helm after he refused to let her, havent you all seen women throwing plates/knives at people when their mad:P

Yes, She was impaired. I agree with the possible return of her illness

It’s more likely that her mortal form was affecting her rational. Remember these Gods had not held mortal for for centuries. They were not used to the emotions and limitations of the human mind. Remember Bane freaking out about having to eat and go to the bath room?! So maybe she had a Divine panic attack and was not being rational.

You get Lord Karsus, Brennon, and LLKN in a thread and you'll be amazed how quickly the thread gets de-railed lol ;)

Anyway I think Mystra knew full well she was going to die and knew she would be struck down by Helm, hence why she went back. Some gods saw their fate coming (Mystra, Bhaal) and took steps before hand. I think Mystra knew her was time was up and did something about it.

But that's just me and my idea's are usually lame.

Mystra may not have *suffered* from the effects of PPD for all of her seven children -- or rather, the seventh child. Elue Shundar, the mortal host of Mystra, died before Mystra/Shundar could carry the seventh child, Qilue, to full term. A new mother had to be found before Mystra's own power consumed the child. Mystra set about looking for another suitable womb for the unborn Qilue, and found Iliryztara Veladorn. Veladorn was also pregnant but her adventuring ways had resulted in the death of her own unborn child -- she was not aware of this however -- and as a result, her own life was threatened because of it. Mystra decided to replace Iliryztara's dead unborn child with Qilue, thus saving both Qilue's and Iliryztara's lives.

However, Eilistraee had plans for Iliryztara and her unborn child. Mystra, thus, sought permission from Eilistraee about whether the Goddess of Mysteries could intervene in Veladorn's life. Eilistraee agreed and Qilue was placed in Iliryztara's womb. When Qilue was born, she was born a drow and servant of both Mystra and Eilistraee.

Lucien... this really isn't that difficult, as I've told you previously -- "In your opinion" mixing them Ruins the flavor of both genres.

Please, try to refrain from making such generalised statements. I'm not entering into another "debate" with you. Though, when you make comments like this, you're tempting others with less restraint to come back at you.

You should try respecting the opinions of other posters every once and awhile. I happen to like psionics, and the Dark Sun setting also. But I've chosen not to debate that issue with you because I'm beginning to understand the reality that you may not have much respect at all for the opinions of others here.

Sage,
I was replying to Markus’s statement! I was not making a condemning remark about people who like to mix their genres. I will not debate it with you. I understand some people like Spells, guns, and death rays all in one game. Hell I like Rifts and the game has literally everything.
My comment about psionics was directed at Bren. I really can’t fathom why you just attacked me about respect and opinions. I happen to like Dark Sun as well. I personally don’t like psionics in my Realms games. Maybe Bren does. That’s cool with me, but I will still take any chance to annoy Bren just as I’m sure Bren will take any chance he or she can to annoy me.
So I get what you saying, but there was no reason for the reminder. Thanks anyways.:D
