| JPDeed07-09-07, 11:15 AM | Does anyone know of a list thats been compiled that shows which spells are turned by the spell "Spell Turning"? Effectively, a list of spells that have "You" as the target - I have players frustrated at the lack of opportunities to effectively use this spell, as it can't turn rays (due to their ranged touch requirement) |

This means spells with a range of touch like inflict serieus wounds. This does not aply to ranged touch attacks like disintegrate, ray of frost, orb of force etc. |
| Drew1369r07-09-07, 01:51 PM | Yeah Ranged touch spells ARE affected by spell turning. So that being said... if someone uses the divine or arcane reach will also be affected as well IMO. |
| The Simbul07-09-07, 04:57 PM | Spell Turning will apply to any spell that has a range greater than touch and that has the word "Target" in the spell header. Spells like disintegrate, scorching ray, polar ray, ray of enfeeblement and the like are NOT affected by spell turning. The reason has nothing to do with the fact that they require a ranged touch attack. It has to do with the fact that they are "Effect: ray" spells. Spell turning only applies to Targeted spells, i.e. spells that have the word "Target" in the spell header. It does nothing against Effect spells or Area spells, with the former of those categories including all of the spells I noted above. |
| JPDeed07-09-07, 09:12 PM | Yeah, that's what i expected - so all in all, the number of spells it is actually effective against is quite low really - how about a spell it would normally effect, like charm (i think) - when it becomes a "mass charm" does the turn still apply? |
| bobiuszzz07-10-07, 09:05 AM | Thats what you get from looking up these things late at night.:( The spell to protect agianst ranged touch attacks is ray deflection (SpC 166). It depends on the spell. The discription of the mass inflict x spells says one creature per level so spell turning should propably work. Mass charm monster is an area spell so it would not work. |

Organize them by the far right column, which says "T/E/A." Scroll down. Pretty much any spell labeled target that does not say "touch" or "personal" in the column just to the left is affected by spell turning. Examples include: charm spells (including mass versions), chain lightning, (greater) dispel magic (targeted version only), dominate spells, hold spells, horrid wilting, and, slow. |
