Zsych 03-09-08, 11:21 PM	Was just thinking. When Mystryl died, the Weave just vanished, but Mystra had taken precautions, largely in the form of her Chosen. I wonder if during the spell-plague, its the part of Mystra left in the Chosen that is still trying to maintain the Weave and causing all that trouble. Although perhaps without it, mages would just end up completely without magic until they figured things out, as opposed to just having increased chance of spell failure. Also, I don't know what Azuth and Velsharoon's standing was, but perhaps they also contained part of Mystra's divinity, making them stronger than they otherwise would be. With fewer worship in the form of people casting spells with the Weave though, those parts of Mystra are likely to decrease in power over time.

It could explain why he may have some of them 'in his head'. Also, the blurb in the 1e boxed set that is linked to the Spellplague says "Dove! smashed the Black Star..." or something close to that. That means that the Chosen could be even MORE directly linked to the Spellplague.

Velsharoon was 'sponsored' to a demi-power by Talos - when Vel realised that Talos was just using him he switched sides and came under the wing of Mystra (to protect him from Talos' wrath for switching sides). A rather simple explanation for a complicated event. Damian

As you alluded to, Mystra has been killed previously, and the Weave has unraveled previously, and there was no 'Spellplague'. Don't try to reconcile the new with the old. Like Elves and Dragons, concerning the Dracorage Mythal, trying to make it all reconcile does not work.
MaskedOne 03-10-08, 12:30 PM	Interesting concept, the spell-plague as a side effect of Mystra's varied contingencies attempting to bring her back and failing. All things considered, like LK I don't think the spellplague can be effectively reconciled with prior lore but this is an interesting theory. My standing theory if I could be conned into accepting the Spellplague and this is largely based on how I think Shar can would prevent the rise of a new Mystra. I don't think Cyric or Shar have the ability to truly destroy the position held by Mystra and I doubt Shar has the power to directly influence the rise or fall of a divinity. What she can do however and this has been demonstrated in Temptation of Elminster is contain at least a fragment of Mystra temporarily. My standing answer to what I've heard about the Spellplague is that Shar figured out who was going to rise in Mystra's place and while Cyric was getting imprisoned for stupidity without a license, Shar assaulted and imprisoned the new divinity before she had time to grow into her position. The destruction of Dweomerheart (may have mispelled that) and routing of Azuth and Savras denied Mystra her traditional refuge and the chaos affecting the planes prevented Mystra's divine allies from reacting in time. The continuance of the Spellplague is Mystra trying and failing to free herself, the contingencies tied to the Chosen could potentially influence this process. Oddly enough under such a scenario, the easiest way to screw Shar over is for the imprisoned Mystra to die with a successor in position to act but she probably doesn't have one in place and leaving her power unsecured for any length of time around Shar could be messy.
