| Todesherr09-01-07, 08:26 AM | I read this somewhere in the NWN2 forums; however it may have only pertained to the expansion game. Otherwise does anyone have information on this? Is Myrklu making a comeback? I thought he was trapped in the crown of thorns? In any event, where would he go? I guess he would be a demi-god of the dead then...hmmm |
| Old Sage09-01-07, 09:24 AM | Myrkul isn't making a comeback. In fact, what's left of Myrkul himself doesn't seem to want to be a deity again. This was explicitly stated in the City of Splendors boxed set:- Myrkul actually enjoys his new existence and the ability to foment dissent, chaos, and death without the strictures inherent in being one of Ao's gods; his greatest satisfaction is in disrupting the organization of the Cyric-worshipers and in destroying any worshipers of Mystra (who caused Myrkul's destruction).I don't think it's really any surprise that Myrkul "enjoys" his current state. Being somewhat removed from under Ao's divine thumb would certainly have its advantages... especially for a former deity who still likes to meddle in mortal affairs -- fear and terror can still be powerful "weapons of influence" in his arsenal, just as his unpredictability still would be. As it is... I do like the idea of Myrkul in this state. If I had followed the path of the ToT in my campaign, 'tis likely this version of Myrkul would indeed be a part of my FR. |
| Zandilar09-01-07, 09:28 AM | Heya, I read this somewhere in the NWN2 forums; however it may have only pertained to the expansion game. Otherwise does anyone have information on this? Is Myrklu making a comeback? I thought he was trapped in the crown of thorns? In any event, where would he go? I guess he would be a demi-god of the dead then...hmmm Well, with 4th Edition coming next year, people are full of speculations right now. If, however, this pertains to NWN2's expansion then the answer is simple. It's No. Because computer games are non-canon. What happens in them does not happen in the Realms*. *Unless they write a novel based on the game, in which case the novel version is canon. |
| Xaean09-02-07, 07:26 PM | What is trapped within the Crown of Horns is only a dim reminder of his former power, maybe in some way similar to the vestiges of the Tome of Magic - no longer truely alive but not entirely gone. There are certainly speculations about almost every dead god being resurrected some time - in Myrkul's case I hope the rumors are not true: a death god betraying himself and his portfolio by supporting undead - just keep him dead, forever! |

Well logically there would be no place to go for him; at best he could be a demi-power of the dead and maybe dusk (no one has claimed dusk) or maybe some new stuff in his portfolio... |
| Lady_K09-02-07, 08:57 PM | There are certainly speculations about almost every dead god being resurrected some time - in Myrkul's case I hope the rumors are not true: a death god betraying himself and his portfolio by supporting undead - just keep him dead, forever!I don't think there is any particular truth to the rumors. As the Sage notes above, Myrkul appears keen on staying right where he is. And we've not seen much in the Realms Lore that counters that position, so until we learn otherwise, it's more than likely they're just ill-conceived rumors. |
| Xaean09-03-07, 07:58 PM | I hope your are right... If any dead god really makes a comeback, that would rather be Amaunator (see Power of Faerun). |
| Lady_K09-03-07, 08:45 PM | The 'Rise of Amaunator' looks to be a certainty. I seem to recall George Krashos suggesting that future references may support the initial details provided in "Power of Faerun." And Rich Baker confirmed those events are canon Realms Lore, so there's plenty of fertile ground for designers to play in. Perhaps we'll learn something about this particular plot line in the upcoming "Grand History of the Realms." |
| Old Sage09-04-07, 09:34 AM | It's been suggested that the 'Risen Sun Heresy' will go the distance and get mentions in future products. Though, as Rich Baker said:- "Yes, these events are "canon." We don't have immediate plans to show most of those storylines moving forward, simply because our product schedule is taking us to other parts of Faerun for a while (Cormyr, Shadowdale, Undermountain)." |
| Cyrizisten09-04-07, 10:52 AM | Cyric will deal with him when the time comes or the other gods will! never theless the one will win eather way :D |
| 1 ton ghost09-08-07, 02:01 PM | likely, Jergal will advice Kelemvor your standard "new god policy". that is, offer them conversion to the current Death God ie)fall in line w/ the rest of the planet or face a crusade. i mean, who is going to back him? Mystra and quite a few others would soundly ally w/ Kelemvor easilly enough. it's kinda' like the Islamic stance of forgiving your infidel enemies and making peace provided they atone by converting. see/hear the last bin Laden tape? he's willing to "look the other way" provided Bush converts and so on... Myrkul is a nice foil and likely hard to stamp out, but w/ Kelemvor hounding him, and plenty of evil gods hungry for his portfolios, it's not looking too good |

Can you give me a clue* on the page number of this quotation? Or did you mean the AD&D box? *Edit: No, on second thought, please give me no clue, but the page number ;) |
| Old Sage09-10-07, 11:35 AM | 'Twas in the older boxed set. See pg. 101 of the "Campaign Guide." |
