The structure of the Church of Helm? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm getting all good and ready to enter a PnP game with a buddy at the local gaming store, we've decided to give it a go as a Cleric/Paladin duo, after much debate and discussion, we settled on our characters being followers of (you guessed it) Helm.

We have the gist of Helm down pretty much pat; all the simple dogma: trust is paramount, keep promises, act as protectors/guardians, be nice to youngins, hate Bane, be cold-shouldered to Torm's followers - etc.

The Helmites are supposed to be big on the militaristic stuff, in the Faerunian sourcebook it goes so far as to state that they follow a rigid military discipline system, complete with ranks... it just fails to list those ranks - which begs the question: what are the ranks, specifically? Are there unique titles for each rank like I'm assuming (i.e. WH40K's Space Marines and their Brother-Captains, etc.)? Or are the ranks just... ranks (Private, Corporal, Sargeant, etc.)?

Anyone know, or has anyone just went on and made their own set of ranks/titles for Helmites?

Any and all assitence is appreciated in this matter.

The standard titles are Novice, Adept, Trusty, Alert, Watchknight, Guardian, Overblade, High Watcher, Senior Steeleye (a title applied to all senior clergy). These certainly apply to priests, and probably paladins as well.

This, and much else about Helm and his worshippers, is found in Faiths & Avatars (http://paizo.com/store/brand/forgottenRealms/roleplayingGames/2ndEdition/v5748btpy7mkq).

Thanks for the information Faraer.

Ed also provides a little on the internal structure of Helm's church in his '05 replies at Candlekeep.

I'm completely and totally new to the Wizard websites, so i have no clue about Candlekeep or what it is, can you provide a link to Candlekeep? Or is that the link right there in your signature?

Furthermore, once I get there will a search function be available, or am I going archive diving?

Candlekeep.com is the foremost independent Forgotten Realms website, with an active message board.

Here (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/sse/so_saith_ed.htm), information from Ed Greenwood posted by a friend of his is compiled. At a quick search, the only substantial Helm information I see from 2005 is about festivals, from December.

They were in-direct references, as I recall. Ed told us a little about the relationship of the titles in Helm's church.

I'll locate the replies myself and post them here.
