| Todesherr03-08-08, 01:16 AM | Contained all the portfolios of all the gods. Could one god potentially destroy all others by using the Tablets to absorb other gods' portfolios? And was Ao just lazy, why didn't he just recover them himself? |
| Lord Karsus03-08-08, 01:33 AM | -Did you read the end of the Avatar Trilogy? If not, I'll SBLOCK this: -The Tablets of Fate were actually a sham. They didn't actually do anything, or have any power over anyone or anything, other than listing the duties of the various deities. |
| Todesherr03-08-08, 02:03 AM | -Did you read the end of the Avatar Trilogy? If not, I'll SBLOCK this: -The Tablets of Fate were actually a sham. They didn't actually do anything, or have any power over anyone or anything, other than listing the duties of the various deities. That's what I thought and yes I did read it. But below is an article from Realms Wiki... The Tablets of Fate were stone slabs on which the official portfolios of every one of the deities of Abeir-Toril were written. Bane and Myrkul stole the tablets from Ao and hid them in Faerūn, suspecting that some of the Overgod's power was derived from these tablets. When Ao discovered the Tablets of Fate were missing he summoned all the deities and asked for those guilty to hand them over. When no one stood forward to admit to stealing the Tablets, Ao cast down all the gods from the heavens, taking their divine power in the process. Ao tasked Lord Helm with guarding the Celestial Staircases which would lead the deities back into their divine realms. For this he retained his divine powers. Before the Avatar Crisis ended, Bane and Myrkul were both slain, although Bane would return in 1372 DR. Conceivably, if in the hands of a god with such an inclination, these tablets could be used to make a god ultimate, absorbing all of the portfolios of every other deity with influence in Realmspace. The suspicions of Bane and Myrkul that some of Ao's power lies in the tablets seems confirmed, as Ao appeared unable to recover the tablets himself. |

| Jiggawha03-08-08, 10:54 AM | I don't remember the Avatar trilogy that well anymore, but it seems to me that Ao lied |
| MarkusTay6303-08-08, 11:47 AM | The whole thing was basically a setup - he wanted an excuse to teach the gods 'humility', and force them to have a closer relationship with their worshippers. At least, thats what I got out of that ending. |

At least, thats what I got out of that ending. -That's pretty much it. Ao knew that, by claiming that the Tablets of Fate held the destiny and powers of every deity, someone would eventually attempt to strike against him, steal the powers of everyone else, and yada, yada, yada. By stealing the Tablets of Fate, Bane, Myrkul and Bhaal demonstrated that deities were interested in the personal accumulation of power, and not the actual portfolios and people they were supposed to reflect and represent. So, when the Tablets of Fate were stolen, Ao used it as an opportunity to make the deities of Abeir-Toril more humble, and remind them that they are 'designed' to serve the beings that worship them, and the ideas their portfolios represent. |
| Alediran03-08-08, 01:47 PM | FR Gods are like politicians, they are supposed to serve the people, not use them. That's why I find the idea of gods killing each other directly (and most ridiculous that a god is killed in his own divine realm) completely stupid. |

Just means the gods actually have to be smart not to get killed. |

I find that boring, it seems that you want only LN/LG gods politicians hardly ever serve the people |
| Alediran03-09-08, 07:10 PM | I find that boring, it seems that you want only LN/LG gods Corellon is CG and a good leader of the elves. You don't need to be Lawful to be a good leader for your people. politicians hardly ever serve the people Those are the evil gods, like bane, who use their followers (people) to improve themselves. |
| Zsych03-09-08, 11:51 PM | I think the wiki entry is a good example of what Ao wanted everyone to believe. Its only when you got the tablets that you'd find out that they don't work that way :P |

Its only when you got the tablets that you'd find out that they don't work that way :P That remind me when Cyric, tablets in hand manage to give them back to Ao and what he did to them. Cyrix "Errr, ok, but I'm still on the list for godhood, aint't I ?" :D Ao "Sure, take all those available, and now, go to work" |

| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-10-08, 01:24 PM | Gods die all the time. Read up on your mythology. Just means the gods actually have to be smart not to get killed. Real world mythology != Realms mythology. If gods could kill each other so easily, the list of deities would have to be massively revised each year (real-time and game-time). Yet that didn't happen. |

If gods could kill each other so easily, the list of deities would have to be massively revised each year (real-time and game-time). Yet that didn't happen. On the other hand, should a god from FR try to kill another one, it's clearly said that many others gods of entities could be in position to strike him too so that such moves are hard to organized. Of course, with the rules they live udner, unless you have a VERY good reason to kill a god, you don't even think about it (please, spare me the Tyr-Helm soap opera) since it might be alien to their portfolio. Two elements that aren't supposed to happen in the real world myths |
