cdreed 04-12-07, 11:46 PM	Hello, I've recently read some references scattered about to something called the "waymeet", some kind of portal network or demi-plane built by elves that can connect to anywhere in the realms. I have not found anything about this in any of the source books I have, but it sounds like something I would like to explore in my current campaign. Does anyone have any additional information on this place, what it's like, and how it works? Thanks, Chris

Gray Richardson 04-13-07, 12:34 AM	If you check out Magic of Faerūn it talks about Fey Crossroads and Backroads. There is a theory that the Waymeet is part of this network of portals. It is thought that these backways actually cross through the plane of Faerie, and that, although they seem to allow for teleportation to various spots around Faerūn, a skilled user could possibly use these junctions to cross over into Faerie or for other mysterious purposes. Certain elves, and especially the Lythari, seem to know quite a lot about these pathways, but likely the knowledge was learned from the fey. There was some speculation that the Waymeet itself was possibly located in the plane of Faerie, although we cannot rule out it being in a special demiplane. I don't know if Waymeet was created by the Sylvan creator race, or elves, or by elves using knowledge that they learned from the fey. I actually haven't read the Final Gate yet.

Alediran 04-13-07, 03:16 PM	At least from Last Mythal the Waymeet was created by the High Mages of Aryvaandar. It was the Last Mythal they built before the destruction of the kingdom. It was tied to the Gatekeeper Crystal (the same that destroyed Hellgate Keep on the High Forest) and every time the Crystal was used in it's most potent form the parts where scatered everywhere the Waymeet touched. In he third book Araevin and the others have to use the Waymeet to find two of the three parts of the Gatekeeper Crystal, one of them was on Malkizid's private realm

Like dogs have much keener noses than we Humans, Lythari have much keener senses than other Elves.
Shemeska the Marauder 04-14-07, 02:44 AM	I'd say it was a demiplane. A portal-studded demiplane, but a demiplane nonetheless. I'd suggest that it might be based on the same root knowledge that the elves of seldeyuir used to create their own demiplanar realm.

cdreed 04-27-07, 10:48 PM	For the purposes of my game, I'm going to assume that the Waymeet is as Shemeska suggests - a portal studded demi-plane or two - I think it will be a very exciting place for the players to explore. I love demi-planes, they allow you to take a trip on the wild side of things for a bit before returning to traditional fantasy. I've never been particularly clear on the powers of the Gatekeeper Crystal - it seems to do an awful lot of different things. But that digresses a little. Thanks again for your comments all!
