| Todesherr02-24-08, 07:10 AM | So far all I have is the bare bones for 9 Greater Gods, each of the 9 alignments. I am planning on having 27 Gods total, 9 greater, 9 intermediate and 9 lesser; maybe a demigod or two as well). The problem is the portfolios and ranks, some are easy, such as the evil alignments as well as the good, but for example CN I find difficult to find an appropriate portfolio for. And after the greater gods it will become still more diffcult. All tips will be appreciated. So far all I have is: Tyranos (The Iron Tyrant, The Black Knight, The Conqueror, The Cruel One) Greater God Portfolio: War, Tyranny, Strength, Conflict, Cruelty, Conquest, Oppression, Vengeance Alignment: Lawful Evil Xenox (The Black Death, Lord of Darkness, The Nightmare King, The Soul Reaper) Greater God Portfolio: Death, Darkness, Night, Disease, Pestilence, Fear, Nightmares Alignment: Neutral Evil Zarathos (The Ravager, Lord of Chaos, Lord of the Storm and Sea, The Mad God) Greater God Portfolio: Destruction, Storms, Oceans, Earthquakes, Chaos, Madness, Rage Alignment: Chaotic Evil Delos (The All Knowing, The Sage, the Mage Lord, Lord of Magic) Greater God Portfolio: Knowledge, Magic, Learning, History, Books Alignment: Lawful Neutral Ferella (Mother Nature, The Lady of the Forest, The Mistress of All Beasts) Greater Goddess Portfolio: Nature, Forests, Animals, Plants Alignment: Neutral Furtiva (The Thief, The Laughing Rogue, Lady of Music and Art, The Adventuress) Greater Goddess Portfolio: Thieves, Rogues, Music, Art, Adventure, Trickery Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Darius (The Protector, The Guardian, The Righteous One, The Silver Knight) Greater God Portfolio: Justice, Protection, Guardians, Truth, Courage, Paladins Alignment: Lawful Good Helios (The Sun Lord, The Lord of Life and Light, The Golden Eagle, The Redeemer) Greater God Portfolio: Sun, Light, Life, Sky Alignment: Neutral Good Celena (The Compassionate One, Lady Love, The Healer, Lady Joy) Greater Goddess Portfolio: Healing, Love, Compassion, Forgiveness, Happiness, Joy Alignment: Chaotic Good |
| Lord Karsus02-24-08, 03:55 PM | -No Elemental Deities, I see. I'd recommend 'em. |
| Zireael02-25-08, 03:22 AM | No elementals!!! And add some kind of an EVIL-to-the-core demon! |
| Lord Karsus02-25-08, 12:55 PM | No elementals!!! -You need Elemental Deities. It's practically mandatory! |
| Kenzuki02-25-08, 03:41 PM | -You need Elemental Deities. It's practically mandatory! Not really. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin02-25-08, 04:16 PM | Maybe the D&D system of elements isn't used (or isn't important) in this setting? |
| Lord Karsus02-25-08, 04:53 PM | Not really. -Sure they do. Explain why Fire, Water, Earth, Air (The classical elements), Light and Darkness, and the attributes they have, exist. |
| GothicDan02-25-08, 04:55 PM | At the very least, include the portfolio of the elements in the established pantheon already. Like, Haphaestos wasn't just the God of the Forge and Machinery, but also Fire. |

Fire is chaotic, Earth is law, Light is good, Darkness is evil, and water/air are both neutral. More or less. There's obviously a lot more than just that little blurb. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin02-25-08, 06:18 PM | He could do something different, based on the modern periodic table. He could have a God of Noble Gases.:P |
| GothicDan02-25-08, 06:47 PM | "I am the High Lord of Beryllium." |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin02-25-08, 06:53 PM | "I am the High Lord of Beryllium." I think that's nice. He could be responsible for certain gemstones.:) |
| Todesherr02-25-08, 10:53 PM | Don't worry. Your suggestions will be taken to heart. Intermediate Gods: Agnos (The Fire Lord, Lord of the Blaze) Intermediate God Portfolio: Fire, Flames, Conflagrations, Volcanoes, Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (Chaotic Evil) Hydron (The Water Lord, Lord of Rivers and Waves, The Life Giver) Intermediate God Portfolio: Water, Rivers, Lakes, Waves, Restoration through water Alignment: Neutral Good Zariah (Lady of the Winds) Intermediate Goddess Portfolio: Air, Winds, Clouds, Bird Life Alignment: Neutral Cthon (The Earth Lord, The Great Miner, The Gem Lord) Intermediate God Portfolio: Earth, Caverns, Mining, Gem Stones Alignment: Lawful Neutral |

| Kenzuki02-26-08, 07:45 AM | You can have Elementals without having Elemental Gods. Warcraft has done it and it rocks. Think outside of the box. I'm working on my homebrew world where there's really only two major world religions now with minor nature spirit cults going around. One is a monotheistic one while the other is more like a mixture of kabbalistic judaism, buddism, hints of Christianity, and Shinto. I even have this idea for an organization in it called the Sanguine Cross. They use the Cross as a symbol of Judgement and Punishment, and use Crucifixion as their major form of execution. Thinking of making them Lawful Neutral with LE tendancies. |
| GothicDan02-26-08, 08:24 AM | Shinto and most forms of animism still often had "very powerful" Fire-deity spirits, Water-deity spirits, besides the local ones. And Christianity and Judaism (I think) still had Archangels who could be considered divine, who were patrons of various elements. I'm saying 'could be considered divine' by the D&D rules, not necessarily faith belief. |
| SteelGeneral02-26-08, 08:44 AM | Todesherr, I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm finding it extremely difficult to "flesh" out the dieties in my campaign world. Though I'm having more problems with the Church history, dogma, etc. Here's a link if you (or anyone else) is interested; Ghoraja Juun Dieties (http://mysite.verizon.net/res1uo08/Pantheon/default.asp) Hopefully the page loads properly, been having some problems with it. |

Yeah, I think I am restricting myself but trying to go fro a 3 by 3 pattern for all the power levels so I am just going to be creative and sort it out and edit it later. |

The religion that isn't monotheistic will be primarily about the veneration of certain powerful spirits that could be called gods. The Sanguine Cross is dedicated specifically to one certain spirit in particular. A goddess they refer to as The Lady. The Lady is known as the Great Mother and she's since fallen into a death like slumber. The monotheistic faith is claiming that their god has killed this false god and has taken her place as patron of the people. The Sanguine Cross is thus dedicated to both reviving the Lady as well as purging the influence of the monotheistic faith that is encrouching on their people's empire. The Sanguine Cross is basically backing an Empire in the East, while the Monotheistic Faith is in control of an Empire in the west that has been spreading in recent years and is trying to subsume every group of people into it's order. Now the lesser faith would be the Old Ways which are the tradition beliefs of the east. They don't really like the new view of the Sanguine Cross but they do believe they have their uses in protecting their ancestral homeland. I'm trying to come up with a new Blood domain to give to the followers of the Sanguine Cross sect to represent how they often use blood (animal and human) in their spellcasting rituals to augment their powers in battle. Still working on the details of my world though, so it's still a little fuzzy right now. |
| GothicDan02-26-08, 03:34 PM | You missed my point, though. Even in the religions that you brought up, analogous religions DID have Elemental divinities. :) |
| Kenzuki02-26-08, 03:52 PM | You missed my point, though. Even in the religions that you brought up, analogous religions DID have Elemental divinities. :) I was more or less meaning that they didn't have a 500 foot tall fire elemental like Kossuth as their fire god. But point well taken. |

| Todesherr02-26-08, 10:49 PM | Already working in changes...maybe I will end up with 30 to 40 different gods...with varying alignments, portfolios, etc. |
