I'm building a Varag PC, and i was wondering waht a good deity would be for him. I've got him set as Gruumsh for the moment, but I'd like feed back for other appropriate Faerunian Deities.

If he is evil then maybe Baphomet, a demon lord and worshiped by minotaurs as a god. Baphomet has that horned thing going on like your guy.

Varags are goblinoids, related to hobgoblins (with some dire wolf blood). Maglubiyet would be a much better choice than Gruumsh or Vaprak.

Malar would be another good choice, catering to the wolf side of his ancestry. Baphomet might be an interesting option, but definitely nonstandard for varags.

Maglubiyet essentially expresses a need for goblinoids to constantly wage war and to mass in large numbers to overwhelm their enemies, especially dwarves and gnomes.

The chief god of the goblins is Maglubiyet, who is a nasty deity that urges his followers to expand their numbers and overwhelm their competitors through numbers or trickery. There are other goblin deities, and all are as nasty and grasping and goblin-like as Maglubiyet -- and as the goblins themselves.

Maglubiyet (ma-GLUB-i-yet), the Lord of the Depths and Darkness, rules over his people with an iron fist; he is the patron of aggression, war, and rulership. He appears as a massive goblin with skin like pitch, and eyes of crimson flame, bearing a coal-black axe dripping with gore. Unlike the orcish tribes, all goblin and hobgoblins worship Maglubiyet first, though they may also honor other powers. Maglubiyet is similar in many way to Gruumsh, the orc deity, in that he wishes to see war waged for the glory of his people, and eternally urges them on to conflict and strife.

Maglubiyet is a Neutral Evil god. The domains granted to his clerics are Chaos, Destruction, Evil, and Trickery. His symbol is a bloody axe.

In our group's Forgotten Realms campaign, we have a sidestory where the Varag population has grown considerably in the Shaar region. They are now in constant conflict with the Shaar's Gnoll population.

If you do a 3.5 D&D comparison between Varags and Gnolls, you will find they are both mechanically and conceptually similar races. Although I can't a viable angle to make them compatible in regards to being allies. Also note, they both can share similar geographical residencies as well.

Therefore, if you are looking for a good enemy race versus the Varag - look no farther than the Gnolls. With the Varag being big haters of Yeenoghu, the patron deity of the Gnolls.
