I know that you gain weapon focus with your deity's favored weapon but what if you dont have a deity and have this domain? Can you pick a favored weapon?

As this is what I am thinking of a rough build

High str and chr stats

Lvl 1

Fighter
Power Attack
Monkey Grip
Exotic Weapon Pro (Large Greathammer) From MM4 3d6
19-20 x4

LVL 2
Cleric
War weapon focus (greathammer)
Strength (Enlarge Person) huge greathammer 4d6 dmg

Lvl 3
Fighter
Divine Might
Cleave

Dragon Shaman 17
Feats Not in any particular order

Explain to me how you can be a cleric without a deity?

Not in FR you can't, and this is a FR forum....

Technically, in rare cases, you can. But even then you follow a faith and the specs of the faith should show the necessities; e.g. domains and favored weapon. After all, how do you know you can take the war domain if you have list of domains to choose from.

If you are playing a Forgotten Realms Campaign your cleric character needs a patron deity, even if he doesn't realize it. If you are not in a Forgotten Realms campaign, you don't need any deity and if you make it as this, I think the Player's Handbook shows info on weapons based on your alignment, as follows:

Good: warhammer.
Lawful: longsword.
Chaotic: battleaxe.
Evil: flail.

I think that if you have no neutral component, you may choose any of them unless you took an alignment domain, whose weapon you'll have to choose.

Monkey Grip
Exotic Weapon Pro (Large Greathammer) From MM4 3d6
19-20 x4

Monstrous Manual 4? is that where u found this weapon?

I Diverge a bit from this original post but i think it weird that a warhammer does 1D8 maul does 1D10 only and then it jumps to 3D6 for a large greathammer.
not much logic when it should be 1D8, 2D6, 3D6, etc.

It would be only fair of the DM to ask him to defeat a Greathorn Minotaur, so he can get the weapon in the first place. That would be before he started allocating feats to it's use, of course - with what would he train otherwise?

MAN, what's so bad about using a plain Warhammer or Maul? Does it have to do 3d6 base damage with 19-20/x4 critical in order to be cool? :waits:

I suppose you'll be wanting to start with 20 Str, too, right? While you're at it, I bet you can find a kind of armor that gets you +9 or even +10 armor bonus along the way (hint: look in Races of Faerūn... :rolleye2: )

Well, if the weapons other then swords cut into your decent way of dealing damage...then yes.
I mean to say i mostly find other weapons being surpassed gamestatwise by any or all swords, regardless of whether it is realistic.
In a sense i know swords are the ultimate tools of war, but axes and other s do not under-perform them in a lot of instances, but stat wise they do.
My personal example is the Great Axe and Maul, witch in my opinion should both be 2D6, not 1D10 and 1D12, just to keep it even and motivate ppl to play something else then just the cardboard Great Sword they just use to do the most damage 2handed.

Sorry yes I do know you need to worship a deity in FR. As this is not an FR campaign I shouldnt of posted here. Sorry. Thanks for all that replied. Greathammer is out of the MM4 greathorn monster. To answer the person who asked if I poured through all the books published in D&D to find the best damaging weapon out there. I did. This character is going to be a 2nd line fighter. lacking bab strength and all other goodies the DS class lacks I figured I can make a decent 2nd line fighter with this weapon and still deal some damage. As for the armor I went with plain old scale mail at 1st lvl and will probably stay with that since scale is dragon-like.

cheers

So is that exotic weapon a two handed weapon that does 2d6 and crits on 19-20 x4 without monkey grip or is it a one handed weapon doing the same?

I love hammers but for me its a flavor thing, Nothing quite like a barb smashing his way through things with a good old warhammer.

2handed huge warhammer with a base dam. of 3D6 if i understand correctly.
Witch a large creature with monkey grip can hold in 1 hand.
Though the 19-20, x4 seems a bit much to me but then again its exotic.

The greathammer has the same damage as a Greataxe (1d10/1d12) -- it's just a Bludgeoning Greataxe that requires an Exotic feat to use.

1d12 Medium --> 3d6 Large per the Weapon size chart.

And it's a LARGE 2h at 3d6, which would mean a Medium creature needs Monkey Grip to use it, a Large creature can wield it 2h w/o a feat.

Uhm, great hammer and axe the same damage? any mathematician will tell u otherwise, as D12 does 1 point more on average then D10

Besides, i was on about consistency, not just the fact that both D10 and D12 go to the same greater dice: 3D6, witch is weird to me, as when the weapons are both large they differ in damage, but when they become larger they become equal all of a sudden, hmmz.

Let me clarify -- both weapons are d10 small, d12 medium, 3d6 large

They have the same damage at all steps.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but the chart on pg101 of MM4 and the table for different weapon sizes in the SRD/PHB should cover your questions.

ehm just to make sure, medium 2handed Maul, stated as 1D10 in forgotten realms handbook, medium 2handed greataxe 1D12! in 3.5 PHB

i know how the table on size differences works, and the weapons in the PHB list do not always conform that list of dice.

what is SRD?

I'm not sure how you took the word Greataxe and turned it into a Maul...you're talking about the MM4 item (greathammer) and I said it was the same as a blunt greataxe that required exotic feat.

In my eyes a Maul is supposed to be a great hammer, don't u think so?
I never turned the word great axe into a maul, i only stated they should be equal in all damages, regardless of size, just that they r on par with a great sword in dam.

(sorry for diverging from the original post, wfurlong78.)

It's free on this site, has been since 3.0 came out.

I personally prefer the Sage HTML version found at www.systemreferencedocuments.com however.

(sorry for diverging from the original post, wfurlong78.)In the FRCS the maul was a two-handed martial weapon, but in Complete Warrior, it was updated to be an one-handed exotic weapon that can be considered martial if used two-handed. So, a maul is to a dwarven waraxe what the greathammer is to a greataxe.

Sorry, but i simply dislike that notion, to me a Maul = a "proper" 2handed Hammer, not a "hand and a half thingie".
