Well wishing. [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-06-07, 12:27 PM Well, wishes are perhaps the most powerful from of magic one can cast at the moment (even above epic spells, I believe, as even epic magic has limits). Wish, at it's truest incarnation technically has no limitations except your own imagination.

So I'd like to look at this spell in relation to the Realms. Bane of DM's, the ultimte plot device, the player's last word and the spell everyone wants, it's...well....WISH!!

So couple of questions to start with.

What instances of Wishes being cast has there been in the realms. Are there any notable examples by such people as Elminster, Larloch and so on casting this spell?

I'm talking about Wishes, not miracles here - purely arcane reality-ripping stuff.
Also I'd like examples of the higher ability of wish, not the simple stuff like - stat boosts, emulating spells etc.

Secondly how do people manage Wishes themselves, what parameters do they set(if any)? Any disastourous repurcussions you've had?

Finally when handling Wishes how does it affect the rest of the Realms(in your campaign and in canon), does it create shokewaves in the weave that are felt by other weave users. What about Shodow weave wishes? How do the gods react to such powerful spells?

These are just a few of the points about wishes in the realms that I'm interested in - I'm sure people will bring up more issues.

09-08-07, 07:53 AM it's the worst spell in the game, there is nigh on no way that you can word one that some weasel dm ( me :devil: ) can't turn against you.

the entire reason for a ring of 3 wishes is so that you can have a wish, use the second one to undo the damage caused by the first one, and then use the third one to wish that you had never found the thing in the first place and that the mess you are in had never happened. thus returning you to the point in time just before you found it.

or am i being too hard on my players.

vangy use one in death of the dragon. that only made things worse.

Hmm this thread isn't really spurring the flurry of critical debate and indepth discussion I had hoped for.

Perhaps the world is simply not ready for such subjects, another day, another thread, another forum perhaps then!
