-Richard Baker, in his 'Ask-the-Designer' thread, has stated that the designers want to make the pantheon smaller, and in giving an example, has cited that both Gruumsh and Talos are one-eyed deities of destruction, and that Sehanine Moonbow could be an aspect/different name of Selûne.

Since Lolth is now an elven goddess of the new moon, does that mean that she was Shar all along?

New Moon is No Moon.

Shar is getting really boring lately...and 4ED is getting way too predictable :yuck:

What, what what!? When did this happen?!

Well, I s'pose a ball of yarn might resemble the moon... But not the new moon... hmmm... I'm as confused a shell-shocked rabbit.

-Something like, since Corellon Larethian has the Crescent Moon, Sehanine Moonbow has the Full Moon, Eilistraee has the Half-Moon, and Lolth has the New Moon. Something like that, though I'm not 100% with the Eilistraee part.

Heya,

Eilistraee's symbol throughout each incarnation (2nd Ed: a sword imposed over a full moon, and 3rd Ed: a dancing naked drow female with a sword in front of a full moon), has had a full moon in it.

However... (spoilers for the LP series)
Once she killed and absorbed Vhaeraun, her full moon went half dark.

-That's what I was getting at. I wouldn't be surprised if her holy symbol changed to reflect that. Not that it matters much, if our fears are confirmed.

-OK, see, a detail I didn't even realize. What is it, now? A Masked Drow woman nude in front of a half-moon?

In the novels, the symbol that worshippers were mentioned to use was a half-moon (I think with a sword crossing it). Before Eilis absorbed Vhaeraun, the symbol mentioned in the novel was a full moon crossed by a sword.

No mention (that I recall) of the nude drow dancer in front of it. :-/

The LP series seems to be using Eilistraee's old 2nd Edition holy symbol. Frankly, I prefer the 2nd Ed holy symbol because it was simpler and easier to depict using silver.

-That's something I always found funny. Some of these Holy Symbols are so elaborate...How are you supposed to capture all of that using wood and/or a metal?

Good points.

It makes sense to me that different people might have different variations on a god's symbol, as well.

Or maybe use a wash cloth... At least she doesn't wear clothes, blood is so hard to wash off.

There should really be a low-level Cleric ability called "Craft Holy Symbol" or something like that, which magically imprints the deities holy symbol on an appropriate object, as well as giving it the ability to boost ones ability to turn undead.

And of course, some woodcarvers and metalsmiths are REALLY skilled, although you'd be paying for their expertise.

-Well, there is that low level spell, Create Object, or whatever it is. I guess that solves the question on how some of the more elaborate holy symbols are created.

Personally, the killing of Mystra itself is retarded. FFS, she just died some 20 years ago. Give her a break!

By the way, what happened to Karsus the Mad? Is he quitting or something?

May I ask why are they getting rid of every deity in Faerún, are they gonna have only five left or what? They are killing gods of faerún = they are killing faerún.

-He recieved a ban.

May I ask why are they getting rid of every deity in Faerún, are they gonna have only five left or what? They are killing gods of faerún = they are killing faerún.

-The reasoning is that they want to get rid of deities that they consider "extraneous". That is, the lesser and more obscure deities. They are doing this by mergeing many established deities together (Gruumsh & Talos, Sehanine Moonbow & Selûne are two possible mergers), and turning a great deal of these lesser deities into "divine saints", who are actually servants of the actual deities themselves. For example Red Knight might be a 'saint' of Tempus. Clerics who prey to Red Knight actually will be recieving spells from Tempus, not Red Knight.

-I disagree with all of this, but there's nothing we can do to reverse it, so...

Why was Karsus the Mad banned? Please do tell! I used to read a lot of his posts. Did Shar trick the moderators into banning him?
