I was all excited... first level fighter, finding a small silver magic ring....

"awesome!" i thought
"maybe a ring of invisibility!" I thought

sadly, not.....

It enables me to comprehend the languages of Air and Water elementals :weep:

Mind you, i can't SPEAK them, just understand them.....

what can I do? do elementals write books I can read and WOW my party?

:insert gone with the wind joke:

Ok, rant over..... whats the worst/most pointless item any of you have found?

Mittens of halfling Strength - I kid you not. It was an item in GH that gave you a 7 Str!

I guess if you started out with a three...

In one of her punchier moods, my wife gave me a Harp of Moonshae Summoning, which pretty much just made sure that on the next caravan or boat I came across, at least one ffolk with a brogue was going to be with it...

yep, thats got to be right up there among the worst!

I reckon a wererabbit would be pretty cuddly... I bet DM had just seen Donnie Darko when he/she thought of that one ;)

Belt of Cat's strength, cursed to be unremovable, it was 4 sessions before we found someone with a remove curse spell.

The most annoying magic item I ever picked up was a healing potion that had lain around too long and spoiled... When I desperately needed the HP in a boss fight, I went insane instead. Great fun, actually, except to my coadventurers! ;)

We were running the Temple of Elemental Evil back in the 2e days. My party was begging for some cool magic items, something more than a longsword +1. So our DM included a Ring of Oxygen Detection. What made it lame was that it only detected oxygen within a 1 in radius of itself.

How about after killing off 2 ogre mages and a pack of 10 ogres...we were all still 3rd to 5th level...only to be proudly presented with....

an endless roll of toilet paper :uh-huh:

now I do like my games to be sorta kinda realistic...

but that kind of attention to detail I do not really need :mymy:

I found an intelligent Luck Blade in a cryohydra's horde in a campaign once. It turns out it was very crazy and wanted me to make a wish the second I picked it up. I said I did not feel like making a wish and it told me to wish or it would "wish for me" which sounded dangerous since we had quite a sadistic DM at the time.
Thinking quickly, I remembered that we were in the snowy arctic mountains and the cold was getting to some of the party members. I asked the sword if it could make it warmer outside so we would not freeze to death.
The sword transported us a billion years in the past when this mountain was an active volcano. When we ran from the lava pits in the cave, we bounced into a pack of T-Rex dinos. Knowing we could not win, we all decided there was nothing for it but to wish back.
This time the DM was kind enough to give us 5 minutes to come up with the wish. I don't remember the exact wording, but basically we asked to be sent back to when we made the first wish.
Our DM said that caused a fatal paradox which undid all reality and destroyed the plane we were on. We then had to roll new characters.

Worst magic item ever.

My DM once gave my ranger an Amulet of Mosquito Repelling. Nice for flavor and all, but my character spent most of his time in the Spine of the World and it took up a spot that could have been better spent on something, anything really, else. My DM, however, was so proud of the damn thing I had to wear it for the entire campaign. What's even worse is that not one other PC ever got a mosquito bite.

I made my players find the following item:

Me: So you read the scroll to find out what it is?

PC: Yup

Me: Okay...here it is...ready?

"This is a scroll of learning disability. As yew continyuu it weel grooo har-dur n hrdr t' reed th' printed wertz..."

I stole the text from an old cartoon in Dragon somewhere.

But the feeblemind spell linked to it wasn't so funny.
