I am looking for information on the Shadow Thieves of Amn. Anyone know of 2e books or other sources of information on them?

Thanks for the info.

My main reason is I was reading City of Splendors and saw that Alauneth Black Viper something something was a Shade. I thought only dedicated and loyal members to Shadovar could be 'gifted' and become a shade. Anyone know why this occurred?

The Shadow Thieves have struck a bargain with the Shadovar of the City of Shade, in which select members of the guild are transformed into shades. In exchange, the Shadow Thieves spy on Waterdeep and the Sword Coast on the behalf of the princes of Shade.

pg. 68

I don't like that, Marune could've independently discovered the ritual

Well, Erevis Cale isn't a Shadovar or loyal to them, yet he became a shade through special circumstances. Therefore, I don't see why someone else couldn't become a shade through other special circumstances.

Too funny. I asked the same question just days ago on Dragonsfoot.

Cloak and Dagger is great. You can download it at www.rpgnow.com for $5.
