| Valentinus05-14-07, 03:29 AM | Hello all. I always loved the Forgotten Realms, but only recently I began DM'ing in it. I started a campaign in the Sunset Vale, initially starting in Asbravn, north of Iriaebor. I made the town (small city according to the rules, but I refer to it as a town) ruled by a council of land owners (aristocrats), with a matriarch of Chauntea as a very strong influence as well. I chose this area because it's new and can be developed more freely, You have the ancient tombs of the nomads under the city, nearby rugged hills and mountains and their inhabitants (hidden dwarf citadels, raiding orcs and goblinoids), and if you want a forest adventure you have the Reaching Forest not too far away. As for intrigue, there are the Zhents, and following them, the harpers, but that's not including the various merchants from Iriaebor and Berdusk competing among themselves. My first adventure involves the characters exploring the ruins of an ancient tower (borrowed from "A Stormy Knight") outside the city. If any of you have more ideas , perhaps about interesting things that I ignored, I'll be happy to hear them. |

And of course the Zhents are not above using humanoids (those goblins and orcs you mentioned) to further their goals. Also the forest itself lends to plenty of campaign ideas, the families of the town looking to expand, the denizens of the forest not too happy about it..etc. Just a few quick thoughts (sorry I'm at work so just throwing stuff out there :) ) |
