| ExtinctionBeta09-18-07, 05:57 PM | What happens if he dies? I have not really read much of him. But I have heard of other Gods killing each other and wondered if such a theory were to happen. Would all the other Gods die as well? Reason I assume so is because when the 1st God of magic died, all the magic through out the world went crazy until the God was replaced. |

| Old Sage09-18-07, 08:02 PM | I suggest you take a look at Ao's entry in Faiths & Avatars. It'll help you to understand how incredibly difficult such a scenario as you propose, can be when considering such an entity as Ao. |
| DraconsNighthawk09-20-07, 05:30 PM | Ahh, but I rolled exactly 42 natural twenties in a roll. That killed Ao. |
| Lord Karsus09-20-07, 07:07 PM | Ahh, but I rolled exactly 42 natural twenties in a roll. That killed Ao. -Not good enough. Try again. -Ao is immune to critical damage, anyway. |
| Eli_the_Tanner09-20-07, 08:23 PM | I guess the death of AO is theoretically possible i.e. killed by another overdeity. It can be speculated that AO gains his power from the existence of the other deities - just as a deity gains power from his worshippers. But this seems an even more daunting task, if you still wish to kill AO......you must kill every God in FR!! So it seems killing AO is going to be quite a MSE (Multi-verse Shattering Event) should it happen.....by an invasion from another mutivers, death of an entire settings pantheon or the above mentioned 42 natural 20's.[that's 1 in 1.099511627776e+52 or 109,951,162,777,600,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000 - now thats a lot of 0's) Good Luck!!:D |
| GothicDan09-21-07, 12:40 AM | I think, in general, Overgods' powers are linked specifically and intrinsically to their Crystal Spheres. An Overgod has no power outside of his given Crystal Sphere, that we've seen thus far, at least, and limitless power within. |
| DraconsNighthawk09-21-07, 01:13 AM | -Not good enough. Try again. But... 42 is the answer to all... :weep: |

So I guess that means killing AO would require the destruction of FR's crystal sphere - no small thing. |

| Lord Karsus09-21-07, 11:00 AM | But... 42 is the answer to all... :weep: -On Earth, maybe. But, not in Realmspace. |
| GothicDan09-21-07, 11:18 AM | LK, stop blaspheming. 42 has nothing to do with Earth, and you should know it. |
| Lord Karsus09-21-07, 11:21 AM | -Sorry, sorry. It's 616... |
| Gemstone09-22-07, 12:00 PM | The realms would start to decay. Magic and divinity would slowly stop working and the world would crack asunder... something akin to this was prophesiced in one of my games ;) |
| Straploknight09-22-07, 03:39 PM | -Ao is incapable of dying. It's that simple. and putz for the cheesey way he let Cyric sneak into Dweomerheart and whack Mystra  |
| Meldread09-22-07, 03:52 PM | How is he a putz or cheesy for allowing that to happen? Cyric was acting within his portfolio. He's the god of murder, lies, intrigue, illusions and desception. Ao does not exist to play favorites, he exists to ensure that the gods follow "the rules" and one of those rules is that a deity must act within their portfolio. Cyric did this and therefore what happened was completely legitimate. |
| Straploknight09-22-07, 04:39 PM | Be that as it may, I thought Cyric got off rather light, "house arrest" for murder, these gods are an insane bunch. I wonder if "house arrest" also means blocking the prayers of his faithful and not being able to grant spells as a result, or is he merely prevented from meddling in the affairs of FR's prime and connecting planes? And AO is still a putz. |

I wonder if "house arrest" also means blocking the prayers of his faithful and not being able to grant spells as a result, or is he merely prevented from meddling in the affairs of FR's prime and connecting planes? And AO is still a putz. Well, Ao has already explicitly stated that it's Cyric duty to murder even other deities and that the other deities either succeed to stand against him or die and that he won't punish Cyric for this. I am really curios about this whole imprisonment thing. It could mean that Cyric is "dead" as far as 4e is concerned or that he's merely unable to manifest aspects, avatars and all the other things that deities do to appear in person but still able to grand spells and do all the other things that deities do that doesn't involve appearing in person. As to why the other gods did not slay him: Maybe they couldn't? Maybe Cyric's latest plots made him so powerfull (tricking Tyr into slaying Helm should count as a major cosmic deception/lie/intrigue and bring much power to Cyric even if he was not involved in the actual death blow and slaying Mystra should have boosted him even more, even with Shar eating her share of Mystra's essence too) that they were unable to defeat him and the whole imprisonment thing was only possible through a weird trick, using knowledge about planar fabrics that Cyric doesn't have. So Cyric could have become the ultimate deitykiller and the rest of the deities is dreading the day he will break free of his prison and go on deity-slaying rampage through the pantheons. |
| GothicDan09-22-07, 05:56 PM | I bet Shar's keeping him as her pet. |
| Yaeri09-22-07, 06:16 PM | I wonder who's going to come to his funeral... :thinks: I don't think killing off all the gods will make Ao dissappear. When he started out, there weren't any gods yet either. |
| ElberethSilverleaf09-22-07, 09:54 PM | AO was/is an incredibly illconceived and poorly executed plot device ala deux ex machina. He/it?she never has or will exist in any realms campaign I play in... |
| _Jarlaxle_09-24-07, 06:54 AM | It can be speculated that AO gains his power from the existence of the other deities - just as a deity gains power from his worshippers. I don't think so. Ao created all the other gods to help him out watching over the Realms and to preserve the balance. And the other gods only gain their power through their worshippers since the time of troubles and Ao declared it so the gods will help the worshippers instead of exploiting them. |
| creyzi4zb1209-25-07, 06:34 AM | There were creatures more powerful than overgods. It was mentioned in the Avatar. |
| Lord Karsus09-25-07, 02:55 PM | There were creatures more powerful than overgods. It was mentioned in the Avatar. -That was me, actually. |
| Jacklewump09-26-07, 10:38 PM | speaking of Ao and the balance....dosent the death of Mystra leave a big gap in the balance of the gods?? The GHOTR also sends Azuth and Velsharoon 'reeling into the endless astral plane' so there goes them to? AND what exactly does that mean? reeling into the endless astral plane? |
