In accordance with my affiliation thread, I am thinking of all the elite assassins in the realms, of course everyone and their mom knows about Entreri (who is more of a fighter IMO with the poor death attack DC), another I can think of is Nimor Impraehzel(sp?) who was a much better assassin than Entreri IMO, jsut wondering about other assassins and what sourcebooks/where they can be found. Thanks

One assassin of particular note, the LE vampire Mankar Ottal [who serves as an agent of the Twisted Rune], has been said to have "achieved great ignominy" as a slayer.

See Empires of the Shining Sea.

is empires of the shining sea a 2e resource?

Never heard of it thats why, also who would you think would be a ideal leader for a realmswide assassins guild?

Empires is a 2e resource, yes.

Hmm, I think Champions of Ruin had at least one elven assassin affiliated with the Eldreth Veluuthra. Aside from that, a good assassin will probably avoid becoming too famous ;) .

The calishite assassin Thryuin of the White Flowers.

The head of the Shadow Thieves in Waterdeep was imo also a rather competent assassin.

the grandmaster of shadows from the shadow thieves of Amn.
LittleCarp04

03-25-07, 04:35 PM
Are the shadow theives in amn and in waterdeep differnt sets or a really big group?
Stigger

Really big group. The Shadow Thieves were originally a Waterdhavian organization, until the Lords chased them out of the city until they settled in Amn. They've been trying to get back into the city ever since... kinda strangely obsessed with it actually, as well as trying to get revenge on Lhestyn's descendents for the indignity of it.

Hmm i think i might have just found a home for my guy :D

another question, where can i find the most info on both the Shadow Theives and the Bregaen'Daerthe (i know i messed that up lol) thanks guys!

For the most lore on the Shadow Thieves -- see Cloak & Dagger and 3e Lords of Darkness.

For Bregan D’aerthe -- see the Menzoberranzan boxed set. Though, I'm sure many drow fans will have several other noted sources to suggest...

I don't think that a realmswide assassins guild makes any sence. FR is simply too diverse for such a concept to fit into the extant lore.

Are you looking for an organization to fit a character into, or are you trying to round out a character from the context of an organization?

Umm i have the need for an assassin in my campaign, and im just finding agood home for him, Im thinking the Shadow Theives are probably the right set, either them or the Night Masks sound nice also.

What about an assassin from the Cult of Cyric? After all he's the God of Murder....If I rememeber correctly, he has an order of assassins who teleports through flames to kill their targets...The order is named the Flames of the Dark Sun (Cloak & Dagger 2nd edition sourcebook) and he's based in Amn and led by Blazing Skull Nidhyrk Argrim (a rogue/cleric of Cyric of about 15th level in total).

It is said that this order had been "trained rigorously in the art of assassination to a level of mastery unseen in the Realms since the death of Bhaal's worshippers."

Hmm i really need to get that sourcebook, sounds very interesting, i will somehow have to find a way to enjoy Cyric, hes usually one of my least fav dieties lol, but sounds like a very nice setup.

I dont really like him either but he's the God of Murder now so might as well use his cult and his crazy clerics :P

The idea that they might teleport through any flame on Faerun is pretty hot...Would give them the perfect way to get to their targets!

For Bregan D’aerthe -- see the Menzoberranzan boxed set. Though, I'm sure many drow fans will have several other noted sources to suggest...

Well, that box is the only one who details the Bregan D'aerthe, yet, they are no assassins or rogues, but a mercenary company. Easily mixed up. Every decent enough drow House might be regarded as an assassins' guild (regarding class requirements) though (IMHO). There was one quite powerful, also given in the Menzo box.

Entreri ... he is more an assassin by name than by class. And, of course, he was "created" in AD&D days.

And, as has been said, many members (of days gone by) of the Citadel of Assassins were quite capable, yet when Bhaal decided to do something not too clever (from the assassin's point of view), most of those perished.

well i was wanting Bregan D'aerthe info for a differnt reason :D but i appreciate all the info

Actually some harpers have some people considered assassins, Arilyn Moonblade is one of them. Don't forget the fireknives their a group of assassins. westgate Night Mask are some assassins just look at Everest Cales from the Sembia series he's an assassin. Monks of shar could be considered assassins also
LittleCarp04

03-27-07, 01:52 PM
hmm having a assassin that is a harper... would be very interesting, but i wnat him to actually be evil so that wouldnt work, but good ideas there mindcrusher

Make him a Moonstar then... if they can accept a LE Vampire among them, an assassin with the right moral code would be just as acceptable I'd imagine. Kinda constraining though if it's not the moral/ethical code you want however.
LittleCarp04

03-27-07, 03:59 PM
moonstar... sounds familiar, is that the group blackstaff started? the like "rebel" harpers?
Stigger

03-27-07, 04:00 PM
Yep, that's the group.

03-27-07, 04:22 PM
where can i get more info on them than the back of the FRCS? or if you know the pertinant members or something cause i thikn ill put him there, would make sense more for why he will be assisting (for a VERY short time) the group.

Cloak and Dagger for 2e had a fairly good write up of them. Information is still a bit vague, but that's kinda par for the course where Khelben is concerned. Waterdeep: City of Splendors mentions them a bit as well, and possibly Champions of Valor, but I could be mistaken about that last one.

And they didn't just 'accept' him. The truth is, this former deepcover Harper agent has not yet made his reasons for staying with the Moonstars known to anyone -- besides possibly Khelben.

I don't believe you can purchase 3e FR sources as PDFs.

Though, you can purchase Cloak & Dagger as a PDF from paizo.com for just $4 US.

There is more on the Shadow Thieves in Waterdeep City of Splendors and their is some in the 2e Lands of Intrigue. Aside from the mentioned organizations, Church of Shar, Zhentarim, Xanathar's Guild...From the Shadow Thieves there is teh Black Viper...although she is more than an assassin.
