| 1 ton ghost10-18-07, 03:31 PM | does anyone know anything about these ppl? not a whole lot i can find. i know, big question and all, but all i know is thus: -zahkaran expatriates used a portal back in the day, and viola! way North. -intermarried w/ alot of the fallen netherese -they speak Midani. i'm guessing it's like Farsi, pseudo-arabic -laregly nomadic -Shadovar don't mess w/ them as they are beneath contempt (though i suspect they recognize some netherese bloodlines co-mingled in the past) -routinely raid Zhent caravans and oasis along the Black Road basically, the flavor i'm getting here is kind of a cannibalized version of the Fremen ala Dune. i mean, damn, the Zhents are a close 2nd to the Harkonnans in many respects and the Shadovar could be construed as Padisha's sphere of influence/sadukar elite, etc. no real sandworms or spice influence, but the phaerimm might be in play. who knows. thoughts? ideas? |
| ExtinctionBeta10-18-07, 03:38 PM | -Shadovar don't mess w/ them as they are beneath contempt (though i suspect they recognize some netherese bloodlines co-mingled in the past) I have tried to reason that the Shadovar kicks ass, but this forum is content on the counter-point that they suck and if you are not that of a Drow, you are not even worth mention. |

Bitter much. Drow are NOT as big as they are presented - only in the Underdark. Back on topic - Shadovars consider them as 'sand barbarians'. Simply so. Unworthy of their attention. |
| ExtinctionBeta10-18-07, 03:55 PM | Bitter much. Drow are NOT as big as they are presented - only in the Underdark. ACTUALLY, the weakest of the Drow are considered a worthy opponent to the strongest of the surface dwellers. You can quote me on this from Salvantores novels. Logic+1 |
| 1 ton ghost10-18-07, 03:57 PM | um, yeah, agreed and all that. simply from a mechanical aspect, a +4LA is higher than a drow's +2, so it stands to reason they are more powerful. flavor wise, they are ripe w/ limitless possibilities. i find them highly compelling. but the OP is still pending... |
| Old Sage10-18-07, 09:30 PM | See the Anauroch sourcebook. Plus the novels The Parched Sea and The Veiled Dragon. There's some brief tidbits in Races of Faerūn also. |
| 1 ton ghost10-19-07, 12:00 AM | how'd i know someone would say that. truth be told, if i had those text, i wouldn't be asking. money is tied up in medical concern, rent, bills, etc. WotC has gotten thousands of my dollars already, hence me being here... free advice and so forth. i do own Races, but beyond that and FRCS, it's not terribly informative. |

You said something to the effect that the Shadovar should kill all of the drow. That is not happening. One lone shade 5lvl fighter would be able to take on one 5th lvl drow fighter though. IMO. |
| creyzi4zb1210-19-07, 02:17 AM | ACTUALLY, the weakest of the Drow are considered a worthy opponent to the strongest of the surface dwellers. You can quote me on this from Salvantores novels. Logic+1 Drow would be beaten by scro. Scro are better. Plus they only have +1 level adjustment. |
| Stigger10-19-07, 06:50 AM | You still scare me on a regular basis Creyzi... As to their flavor, I got a more bedouin (or however that's spelled, never remember) vibe over anything else. You might try taking a look at the Old Edition downloads section over on the main WotC site, and looking at the Caravans pdf for Al-Qadim, it might have some useful information for you... maybe. Other than that, I suspect that posting significant sections of the old Anauroch supplement would likely be a no-no with the mods, so I suspect you're kinda out of luck on official material, although you might find www.al-qadim.com helpful if you want to check it out some. |
| Fabius Maximus10-19-07, 07:09 AM | I never liked the idea of beduine in a northern desert much. Simply puting a portal there and having some Zhakarans stumble through it strikes me as somewhat uncreative. I think the Bedine would make more sense as the prodigy of the low netherese people and the barbarians tribes in the vicinity. That'd correlate well with the drovers of the Farsea Marshes, who are also netherese offspring. |
| Stigger10-19-07, 07:58 AM | So, Fabius, would taking my turtle on a commercial flight with me count as teaching a tortoise how to fly? :D |
| Fabius Maximus10-19-07, 05:46 PM | So, Fabius, would taking my turtle on a commercial flight with me count as teaching a tortoise how to fly? :D No, because: 1. a turtle is not a tortoise. It's a turtle. 2. the sentence is not to be taken literally. It's a very profound philosophical concept meaning that eventually everything and everyone will evolve into something better. Even if it's only good for taking the eagle's high six to kick it's tailfeathers. |
