sir_mullich 04-06-07, 04:04 AM	Hello, I would like to know if anyone made an encounter table for these hills ? what monsters would you meet during daytime, and by night (same for the Neverwinter Wood and the Sword Mountains) I have made an encounter table myself, but my knowledge of this region is poor
ericlboyd 04-06-07, 09:25 AM	For the Starmetal Hills, I would guess: Owlbears (clustered around the Old Owl Well), leucrotta (see City of Splendors: Waterdeep), orcs (hunting parties from the Sword Mountains who worship Yutrus), trolls (hunting parties from the Evermoors), Uthgardt barbarians (human) of the Skypony (pegasus) tribe, giants, dragons. Giants would be rare. There's probably a few hill giants in that range and maybe a frost giant or two. Stone giants might wander north from the Sword Mountains. Fire giants are extremely unlikely, but might wander SE from Mount Hotenow (sp?). Dragons would also be rare. The "big dragons" of the area include Klauth (red), Claugiyliamtar (green), Palandarusk (sp?, ghost gold), a crystal dragon associated with dwarves from Mirabar, Thalgart (sp?, mist), and a topaz dracolich from the coast. All are listed in Dragons of Faerun table (or in the Excel download on this site) and many of the aforementioned dragons are detailed on this site in the Wyrms of the North column. --Eric

theartistformerlyknownas 04-07-07, 04:07 PM	As for Neverwinter wood, I speculate there would be many Fey in the region. Nymphs, dryads, and satyrs might find the near-tropical temperatures to their liking. The wood is avoided by humans and orcs (and even mighty dragons and giants find other places to cause mischief), because the wood seems to disgorge those who do not belong there, partly from "a terrible anticipation that the wood could do them harm if it chose"... Leaving me to speculate a rather formidable force of treants in the region. It should also be noted that fire elemantals would become more and more common as you neared the slopes of Mount Hotenow, seeing as how they are the reason behind the woods unnaturally warm clime.

ericlboyd 04-09-07, 07:24 PM	For the Sword Mountains, I think the rot giant from Dragon #355 (the new one) would be perfect. Change the reference from Incabulos to Yutrus, and you've got the descendants of the hill giant tribes transformed during the Year of Red Rain. --Eric
