I know Mazteca and some place called Zatera or something like that are other land masses on Toril, but are the other land masses unexplored, or have they been updated somewhere?
It does'nt make since that a world as old as Toril, with arch mages and epic characters and such magic has not been completly explored yet.

Who said they were not already explore? Any number of Archmages in the past could have been to those other lands and some might even have settle there. Just because 99% of the people in Faerun doesn't know doesn't mean the other 1% also doesn't know. You wouldn't see too many reference to these other lands because they don't concern 99% of the people in Faerun. Places like the libraries of Silvermoon, Candlekeep, Waterdeep and Evermeet probably has info on the other lands.

-Exactly. A little scrying, anyone?

-As for those other continents, we know that the following exist:

Maztica (Maztica 2e sourcebooks)
Kara-Tur (Oriental Adventures 1 & 2e sourcebooks)
Zakhara (al-Qadim 2e Sourcebooks)
Osse (Lady of Poison Novel)
Anchorome (Ed's Replies)

So in other words, if the rest of the lands have been explored, no one knows except for those who may have explored them.
Still doesn't make since in a world as magically advanced as Toril.

-These other continents have been explored to varying degrees. The amount of information that the common populace knows about these lands also varies.

Still doesn't make since in a world as magically advanced as Toril.

-The majority of Toril doesn't have the ability to utilize the Weave and cast magic.

Toril isn't really that advance in magic except for certain Regions. it is high in magic but not advance in terms of using magic for everyday stuff. Some places like Evermeet or Harular would be different but the majority of people in Faerun and Toril still use mostly hand labor.

I think a campaign to explore those lands would be really fun, like Lewis and Clark. And characters could claim entire unexplored islands for themselves. Also it could be alot of fun for the DM too.

As others have noted, referring to Faerūn as "magically advanced" is not really accurate. There have been quite a number of powerful Archmages and High Priests who have achieved incredible magical knowledge and feats, yes, but the average joe of the Realms goes their entire life without seeing any magic except for the odd low-power Clerical orison, healing spell, or blessing, or a young traveling Wizard showing off his cantrips, and those would all be very few and far between. The truly magically advanced folk will have much more knowledge of lands beyond Faerūn than the average commoner of the lands, because they actually care and have the means to learn about them. Most of Faerūn simply does not have either the concern or the means to do so.

-Most of the aforementioned extraFaerūnian continents already have established and relativley advanced civilizations, many of which already interact, to some degree, with various Faerūnian nations. However, the FR map is left blank in many other areas intentionally, just for DMs to carve out their own niche on Abeir-Toril.

hmm untill that is you find the wild eyed nutter pointing at the big copper pot while peeling the potatoes and rubbing his stomach as a welcome. then the fun levels get reduced.

I have been thinking about sending my adventurers to other lands... are there any maps of Kara-tur, Maztica, or Zakhara I could use?

My group hasn't really explored any of these places but I'm playing a character from Mazteca. In the FRCS book doesn't it say that Amn has an outpost in MAztec and they do steady trade there?

Not sure about Zakhara but there are some free 2nd downloads about Maztica and Kara-Tura. I don't think they have complete maps but i think they do have partial maps and very good descreptions of the culture and people you will meet in both places.

There's a nice Map of Zakhara HERE, (http://enworld.org/Inzeladun/inzeladun/maps/al_qadim.htm) and a World Map here. (http://www.chez.com/bossk/map/toril.htm)

To see how all of the settings connect you can download my
Hordelands map (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/56143370/) and my Utter East map (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/59762724/).

The Hordelands are 100% canon, and the Utter East Map is mostly canon, with a few locations taken from the Blood & Magic video game, and the non-canon Double Diamond series. All the tiny islands off the coast are my invention for the most part, just to make it more interesting, and the forests were my creation as well.

Kara-Tur and Maztica maps coming soon! :D

So does Waterdeep and Baulder's Gate.
Amn- Helmsport
Waterdeep - New Waterdeep
Baulder's Gate - Fort Flame

The Maztica Boxed set on the download page has the multi page map that came withh the boxed set.
That map is a bit dated now, as it does not show the location on New Waterdeap or Fort Flame (for those you need to look at the Amn section of Lands of Intrigue also available as a free download).

Hmmmm...I wonder if there are orcs on Maztica or Zamboanga or Kara-Tur or Zakhara or Dipolog or Osse or Anchorome, or any other continent besides Faerun? Mostly I think humans were the ones focused on it.
Or maybe there's a new race......beautiful and great too....like toons maybe.

There are Orcs in Maztica but not in Kara-Tura.

No idea about Zakhara and never heard of the other places.

Orcs on Maztica

They are not native, in an day called the "Night of Wailing" a Maztican deity (perhaps working with Lolth) turned many of his followers into orcs, ogres and trolls.

Before this time these three races did not exist on Maztica.
Since almost all the followers that were turned into orcs, etc, were male, there really isn't really a breeding pool of these races.

I can almost imagine ships filled with female orcs setting sail to Maztica, a match makeing service for all the orcish widows on Faerun. :D

That just smacks of Amn and would kill two birds with one stone for them (though it would potentially destabilize their maztican trade) and they could run a "indentured servitude" type program.

Not that I find this likely, but it's a fun little thought.

Were they punished for a reason? Or did the God want to just show his wrath?

if i remeber it correctly (been a few years since i read it) thier was afraid of his borther coming back and stealing thier form him. So he transform his priest into trolls and the rest of his followers into ogres and orcs so that they can't change their worship.

In game explanation:
It was not a punishment, Orcs ogres, and trolls are a more savage fighters then the human form. The new forms were a reward for the loyal members of the particular cult (if 40,000 is actually a cult, but thats what they were called).
It was a form better suited to the particular deity.

Out of game speculation:
It was an excuse to add a familiar element to the setting.
A way to have the bad guys be something other then humans.
I'll also say any connection I made to Lolth earlier is speculation and unsubstantiated.
Lolth was active in the same area at the same time.
She did turn a few drow into driders at the same time Zaltec changed his followers.

The change in Zaltec's followers was instigated through an artifact that was in the hands of the Drow.

Is there anyway that people from Fauren can worship Gods from Maztica?

If so where could I find this info?
Ioulaum

08-03-07, 06:23 PM
in FR you can worship any god you want. The gods form Faerun is spreading thier religion in Maztica among the natives. You can always do a reverse if you want.

LOL about the orc women on the ships going to Maztica.
Maybe the orcs should create an imburnal or something, that way their breeding powers could be multiplied three folds.
I could also imagine orc women entertaining weary beggars who don't have a penny left.

Orc *****: "Make love wid me!! No price fer ya old timer!!"
Surprisingly the beggars who have cataract are happy coz they get free women almost everyday. All they gotta do is go to "The Cave"
............
82 year old beggar: Urrrghh you're too heavy miss.
Orc *****: "That's the point!! Mwahahahaha!!"

zakhara is due south of the Shining South (map in FRCS towards back), very much like Dark Sun, Arabian-esque, think 1,001 Nights, etc. big deserts, occaisional oasis, sultans, caliphs, genies, efreet, camel cavalry (mamelukes), etc. they opened a portal long ago and the Bedine (indiginous ppl of Anauroch, ala "the Fremen" so so speak) are related to zakharans. the Shadovar don't really mess w/ them as they are beneath contempt but of course the bedine are pretty badass; routinely raid Zhent caravans across the black road, probably got ahold of lost Netherese ruins/magic/etc. the similiarities between this and Dune are probably more than a little coincidental...

Maztica is cannibalized "new world" (cntrl & s. america) west of Amn's coast. they really ripped this off from the conquistadors, ie)priests of Helm i think. think isle of dread, sea-going adventure. plain vanilla tropical epic, dinosaurs, heathen gods, etc. i thought Chult and Tashalar would've sufficed, but...

Kara Tur is basically a really big mongolia, way East of Thesk, Thay, but West of Shou Empire (think imperial china) etc. the Hordes/horselords are basically mongols, Genghis Kahn, etc. 2nd ed had novels, big alliance between cormyr, zhentil keep, etc. to wipe them out and of course, they did. relatively ungoverned, warlords here and there, lots of land, little of it liveable.

i like to situate Rokugan (medieval fantasy japan) near/around Shou lands for added flare in Faerun. Toril is pretty big, so why not. Oriental Adventures pretty much sums it up, but i allow some of the regular races, elves and the like there even though traditionally Rokugan (Legend of the 5 Rings) is almost exclusively human. this helps pave the way for any samurais that may pop up in the Silver Marches, Wu Jen, etc.

hope this helped

as for the exploration theory and the arch mages, just because you discovered a new land mass doesn't mean you're willing to share those, among the other titan secrets you know w/ the rest of Faerun. most mages stay in power cuz' of a healthy degree of paranoia, why share your info when it will likely be used against you?

Indeed. The area you equate with the Mongols is called the Hordelands. Kara-Tur is actually the area of the Shou.
