If this has been covered elsewhere, forgive me. I tried to search for the topic, but didn't find it.

What ever happened to the Border Kingdoms updates? I thought Ed was going to be publishing info about the whole region, 1 town/area per week. The last one was in November 2006.

I personally would LOVE to have this completed so we have a pretty solid, canon, detailed description of the region. Why did it stop?

From Ed -

"Ed tells me the delay is his fault.
Wizards still have Waterdeep News items by him, but have run out of both Realmslore and Border Kingdoms entries (assuming we've had all three High Mukshar instalments; I've not checked)
- - and he's been too blamed busy with [NDA and NDA, so assume still-secret WotC projects, as well as helping XXX with NDA] to get any more ready, yet.
Ed says this past year has been scheduling hell for him; 4 novels, 3 game products and assists with others, about 30 webcolumns, a dozen or so short stories, and lots of "incidental writing, editing, and critiquing." (And, of course, he does have a day job, chairs a library board, helped get a local mayor elected, speaks to school classes, at cons, and seniors' and literary groups, yadda yadda heaping yadda . . .)
So please be patient; Ed will get new lore to Wizards as soon as he can!

I've been trying to steer my players away from anything that starts with a 'j' or later. :D

Just one more DM eagerly waiting for things to calm down for Ed, and for the articles to resume.

This is kinda off topic but how old is Ed now?
I've loved his irreverent Canadian take on things since his articles in Dragon magazine and I was a freshman in high school. (showing my own age here)

WoW.

And here I was thinking he was always an 'old goat'. ;)

(must of been that whole 'dressing like Elminster' period).

He's actually just a wee tad older then I.

So now that makes him a spring chicken my book. :P

Glad to hear Ed plans on completing the Border Kingdoms project... It's solid with plenty of room for detailing by any DM/GM.

I've been working on a campaign in the region for some time and plan on starting before summer hits full swing.

Perhaps I'll POST something here with links to the GROUP SITE once everything is in place... Suggestions will be asked and appreciated.

The Border Kingdoms, perhaps more so than any other part of the established Realms, are designed to be easily customised for particular and/or individual home Realms campaigns -- complete with swiftly shifting borders and ever-changing rulers. So there's plenty of room for changes and/or the addition of new details for your game.

1959 doesn't make him old? *Shifty eyes.*

And here I was, thinking that I'd better get started doing more in life, because I'm already 22! ;)

So he's 47. Meh. :bored:

He can still move like a 37.

I too was enjoying the Border Kingdoms project and was planning on starting a campaign in the Border Kingdoms. However, I was hoping to have the complete series done before I started the campaign.

I realise Mr. Greenwood has multiple projects going on and paying projects and assignments do take precedence, but I've now been patiently waiting for six months for a continuation of the Border Kingdoms project. It seems to me he got about 1/2 finished before it was archived. Seeing this project archived didn't give me much hope, having seen so many great ideas started and then shelved by another prominent gaming company from an island across the Atlantic.

Does anyone have any idea when Mr. Greenwood will return to detailing the Border Kingdoms? Is this something that will reappear within the next few weeks, months down the road, or at some merely hopeful point in the future?

Thanks,
Rudedude

Ed does indeed intend to return to the various articles he's currently submitting to WotC -- which includes the Border Kingdoms. Unfortunately, we don't know when exactly that will be happening.

Note however that Ed's original "Border Kingdoms" write-ups were included in POLYHEDRON -- the entire series ran from issue #109 to issue #148. The POLYHEDRON issues with the Border Kingdom articles are 109–111, 115–121, 123–148. Unfortunately though... the alphabetical detailing of the cities and kingdoms finished at "O". Which Ed included, with some expanded and updated details, in Power of Faerûn.

Then how did DnD get so big? He must have tons of contacts and friends to create such a huge business.

it takes 5 years to make a globe spanning business.

it's stopping the whole thing from imploding that's the hard part.

and a game can explode in 1 year in the correct set of circumstances, all you need is a craze to start it off.

I hope so, since I'm always self-deprecating.

I always liked the Boarder Kingdoms being unrevealed in depth. So it left you a region totally able to be made up by the DM for the DM. Whatever they needed could be found there..and even if the players left and came back it could be different just what whatever was needed.
