| Grimgrag07-17-07, 04:10 PM | i was looking for info about a chosen of shar the only think i can find is that he \she did make a map of the underdark and its not allot no name or start or lvl anyone here can help me xD or it it the same that is trapped on plane of shadows ? |
| Old Sage07-17-07, 08:09 PM | Beyond what was revealed in Underdark, we really don't know anything more about the Chosen of Shar. |
| Zevox07-17-07, 10:10 PM | ...and to be specific about that, what was revealed in Underdark is exactly what you said. We know she has one, and we know he/she/it made a map of the Underdark. Nothing else. Kinda appropriate for a Chosen of the Goddess of Secrets, actually. Zevox |
| Lord Karsus07-17-07, 11:47 PM | Kinda appropriate for a Chosen of the Goddess of Secrets, actually. -I always thought so, too. -If we use the idea that Proxies are now Chosen, Shar has (or has had) multiple Chosen. According to On Hallowed Ground, "Chant is that some of Shar's proxies have discovered the worship of the Cerilian power Nesirie...A few of these proxies...(Emphasis mine). |
| BreegJac1707-18-07, 01:14 AM | Isn't Volumvax/Lord Sciagraph a Chosen of Shar?? |
| Zevox07-18-07, 01:00 PM | Isn't Volumvax/Lord Sciagraph a Chosen of Shar?? Somehow, I don't think Quasi-Deities can be Chosen. Zevox |
| dragonheart07-18-07, 01:26 PM | Actually my suspicion is that volumax was a chosen and was rewarded for actions such by meing made a quasi-deity. Problem is that he then went mad (even to Shar) and was stuck off inthe calyx. But none of that technically means that he stopped being a chosen. the problem is and has been just what are the powers of any "chosen" ? is there some sort of template for chosen that WoTC uses but hasn't reported out? and how do the powers of a chosen compare to the benefits of being a quasi-deity? do they overlap? or stack? |
| Faraer07-18-07, 01:29 PM | As I've said before, outside the Chosen of Mystra, 'Chosen' is just a word mortals have applied to a range of divinely granted statuses. There is no generalized set of powers: a 'Chosen' might have no special abilities or great ones. |
| Grimgrag07-18-07, 03:46 PM | thx for all the answers . |
| Grimgrag07-18-07, 03:50 PM | As I've said before, outside the Chosen of Mystra, 'Chosen' is just a word mortals have applied to a range of divinely granted statuses. There is no generalized set of powers: a 'Chosen' might have no special abilities or great ones. all chosens get somthing that makes them better then usually like fzoul alot have somthing that not all normal chars have |
| Faraer07-18-07, 04:11 PM | Not so. For instance, Qilué Veladorn bears the title 'Chosen of Eilistraee' but has no known granted powers relating to that status. |
| Lord Karsus07-18-07, 06:01 PM | Not so. For instance, Qilué Veladorn bears the title 'Chosen of Eilistraee' but has no known granted powers relating to that status. -However, the lack of apparent, published abilities, powers, and so on, does not mean that none exist. |
| Faraer07-18-07, 06:17 PM | True, but it seems to be so in this case.. . . her Chosen of Eilistraee title . . . means two things: she's as loyal to Eilistraee as to Mystra (in daily practise, as shown in SILVERFALL, more so), and Eilistraee foresees using her in some great task (i.e. a not-yet-revealed destiny). Moreover, nothing logically requires deities to give their most favoured servants kewl external powerz. |
| Old Sage07-18-07, 08:34 PM | As I've said before, outside the Chosen of Mystra, 'Chosen' is just a word mortals have applied to a range of divinely granted statuses. There is no generalized set of powers: a 'Chosen' might have no special abilities or great ones.Indeed. There's no exact, consistent definition of what a 'Chosen' is. The gods can choose to invest a few of their followers with certain special roles and powers, and folk call some of these 'Chosen'. Some have immortality in various forms, others may not. |
| Old Sage07-18-07, 08:47 PM | -However, the lack of apparent, published abilities, powers, and so on, does not mean that none exist.I wouldn't say that's completely accurate. Qilué's entry in The Seven Sisters would seem to indicate that she does not receive much in terms of special powers and/or abilities, even when considering her status as a 'Chosen of Eilistraee.' |
| Lord Karsus07-19-07, 12:01 AM | I wouldn't say that's completely accurate. Qilué's entry in The Seven Sisters would seem to indicate that she does not receive much in terms of special powers and/or abilities, even when considering her status as a 'Chosen of Eilistraee.' -Qilue is not recieving much in terms of special powers and/or abilities, but little is more than nothing. For example, it specifically says that Qilue's ability to summon an unsheathed Singing Sword is a special ability granted by Eilistraee. It also says, of the powers that Eilistraee bestows her, that "Qilue's other powers remain mysterious". -So, while every deity need not bestow their Chosen with special abilities and/or powers, this example clearly shows that Eilistraee bestows her Chosen with powers and/or abilities, seemingly minor as they are. -Also, and this thought just popped into my head and doesn't have too much to do with this specific topic: all faithful of Eilistraee are called Chosen of Eilistraee. That's neither here nor there, but I am sure that's caused some confusion to many a reader. |
| KnightErrantJR07-19-07, 12:02 AM | I would liken people using the term "Chosen" to people not fully understanding the link between Mystra and her Chosen. In other words, there may be some even fairly well educated sages in Faerun that might call anyone "annointed" by their god, i.e. someone that is known to be a special agent of their deity, a Chosen, without knowing that Mystra's Chosen are much more intrinsically linked to her than Fzoul is to Bane, or Cadderly is to Deneir. Being the "Prime Agent" of your god takes a toll, and often you get special tools with which to work, but at the end of the day, most deities aren't making themselves significantly less powerful in order to vest their Chosen with powers. In fact, Mystra's Chosen don't just serve the purpose of being her agents, but they are quite literally her "pressure valves" to keep her from getting too powerful. They are needed in a manner that transcends just having a divine agent. |
| captaincarot07-19-07, 12:09 PM | maybe being a chosen of elistraee gives you some lesser abilities along the lines of those of being the chosen of mystra. but because they are the same bonus type they don't stack so you don't see em manifest in an identifiable way. apart from being able to summon a singing sword and being a demon on the dance floor anyway.:D |
| Manshoon1307-19-07, 01:56 PM | I read somewhere that the chosen one was a female. I can't tell u much more then that. Good Luck, and if u find anymore about it, or u make the chosen one up, cud u private msg me? thanx |
| Lord Karsus07-19-07, 04:03 PM | I read somewhere that the chosen one was a female. I can't tell u much more then that. -Incorrect. The only mention of Shar's Chosen in canon FR sources mentions no gender. |
| The_White_Shade08-10-07, 04:49 PM | in the novel shadowbred by paul s. kemp, didn't it say something about rivalen tanthul being a chosen of shar? |
| Green Elven Vampire08-10-07, 05:26 PM | in the novel shadowbred by paul s. kemp, didn't it say something about rivalen tanthul being a chosen of shar? No, he's just The Shadowseer! What that means.... nobody knows. |
| Lord Karsus08-10-07, 11:40 PM | No, he's just The Shadowseer! What that means.... nobody knows. -I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll eventually find out. |
| godbeepit08-14-07, 12:17 AM | -However, the lack of apparent, published abilities, powers, and so on, does not mean that none exist. It's a unknown known unknown.:D |
| Lord Karsus08-14-07, 08:58 AM | It's a unknown known unknown.:D -An unknown is still something. We just don't know what! ;) |
