Seems like it's kindof a waste to go through all the trouble of raising old Miyterar just to have it be destroyed 10 years later. Whoa, a city that constantly gets destroyed every 10 years? Sounds like FF10. I want to read this, im a sucker for big battle scenes. And I assume a city called hope won't go down easy. Plus it sounds like a "good guy" area...and if you say they keep dying..that means somthing new happened in FR and the "bad guys" won. Can you please tell me the novel? |
| Red_Wizard10-10-07, 12:22 PM | One would assume nothing will happen to it, save perhaps it being discovered by others, that it was once shielded from. Magic restored the city, but from my understanding does not maintain it, least not entirely. |

Magic restored the city, but from my understanding does not maintain it, least not entirely. I had a hint of hope when this topic was created, no offense to you Red but any hope I had for this series just died. It has such potential, I've seen some authors from FR series match that of Raymond E. Fiest. All they need to do is not be limited by the company giving them thier paychecks. Not all are limited in life and can still openly share thier feelings. All though I listen to metal mostly, I just wanted to give an anology: Immortal Technique, does not label himself to any company so he can not be refused a paycheck if he does not do what is told to. All though he only sells 40k records and could do more if he gives in to companys, he at least keeps his dignity. I have more respect for this raper that he does so and not sell himself out. Thus is why I dont like Salvatore..he brought Wulfgar back because he was told too...I would of had more repsect for him if he would of let somone else write it instead of giving in. Never will you see me bow my head in shame, live this life with no regrets. |
| MarkusTay6310-10-07, 12:47 PM | The city was created with 4e in mind, so I am positive it will be in the 4e Realms. In fact, if my hunch is right about the Dark Elves (note I didn't say Drow), there is a VERY good reason why that city was brought back. Just keep your eyes on Kraanfhaor's Door. ;) |

| MarkusTay6310-10-07, 03:15 PM | The novel is called Blackstaff (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/frnovel/955447400), and it is an excellent read. I wasn't 100% satisfied with the ending, but since Mr. Schend is writing a part II I have high hopes. ;) |

| Suin Bahhar10-10-07, 06:10 PM | I hope for a return of the dark elves in Miyeritar. Maybe even:remove the weave, detroy fearzess (sp.), remove the curse, bye bye light sensitivity and obsidian skin |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin10-10-07, 06:27 PM | In my realms, there will always be DROW. |
| Suin Bahhar10-10-07, 07:12 PM | Yeah. In mine too. Only those blessed by eilistreaes moonlight make the transistion so both dark elves and drow exist. |
| Ramenth10-10-07, 11:25 PM | I dunno. I like that some Drow are transcending the curse. I think that shouldn't require Elistraee to happen. But; yeah. Just because some do, its silly to assume all would. |
| Selvarin10-10-07, 11:29 PM | 1) I'm glad that Steven Schend is doing a Pt II. The first novel was a bit rushed, towards the end it just seemed like tying up a few dozen loose ends (even if I still enjoyed it). 2) Yep, kinda silly to destroy the city after Khelben and his compatriots went through all the trouble to bring it back. In hindsights several of the novels are pushing through to 4e. (Makes me wonder if Loudwater and Llorkh will make it, I just have a feeling the towns north of the High Moor are going to bite the dust---'points of light' and all that.) 3) Dark elves need a refuge away from the spider-kissers, besides running about in the woods. If Eilistraee is slain, especially so while they figure out what their next moves are. (I just don't trust WotC to keep her around.) 4) I also wonder if Sshammath (sp?) will survive as a sister-city at least in terms of being a neutral place to study High Magic. |
| Lord Karsus10-12-07, 12:23 AM | Just keep your eyes on Kraanfhaor's Door. ;) -Don't know if you know or not, but it was already opened, in Lady Penitent, Book II. -Inside was a vast dipository of Tel'Kiira from Miyeritar. |
| MarkusTay6310-13-07, 12:03 AM | Hmmmm... I wonder if Schend realizes that... He mentioned it when talking about the sequel........ I think. Perhaps he meant something was going to be done with THOSE? :thinks: <must find that post> |

I think. Perhaps he meant something was going to be done with THOSE? :thinks: <must find that post> -I seem to remembed something vague about him mentioning the door, too. Because Storm of the Dead takes place in the future, and (presumably) Steve's novel (Blackstaff Tower?) will take place in the present, hopefully there aren't any continuity issues. I trust Steve, though. He's the man. |
| Zanan10-14-07, 04:16 AM | In my realms, there will always be DROW. Rest assured, I'll always be there and my kin will surely harrass your's and your players' characters, plotting some downfall of the world above, creating hordes of intelligent undead of the not-rotting variety and somesuch. ;) As for the topic, I see not that great a thread to the "City of Hope", but I have serious doubts over Shade Enclave and Sakkors ... |

| Selvarin10-16-07, 02:56 PM | Perhaps the door's appearance in the LP series is the continuation/sequel, so we'll know. As for you other two, my half-blood drow with 60' darkvision will be using special goggles to see the both of ye, and from a distance I'll be sniping-- because that is also a tradition of the people. :P |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin10-16-07, 07:45 PM | Rest assured, I'll always be there and my kin will surely harrass your's and your players' characters, plotting some downfall of the world above, creating hordes of intelligent undead of the not-rotting variety and somesuch. ;) Heh! That's good to know. Of course, a few of my characters will be fighting evil at the behest of Eilistraee (SHE will always be in my Realms, too!). |
| Cord de'Beron10-18-07, 02:02 PM | So, uh, if the Weave explodes, or ends, or does something similar... What happens to the City of Hope? Seems like it's kindof a waste to go through all the trouble of raising old Miyterar just to have it be destroyed 10 years later. what do it have to do with the spell plague?? |
| Selvarin10-18-07, 08:04 PM | It's elves like ye all that make me glad I play a dwarf on occasion. Bah. Umm, the relation with the Spellplague? Let's see, the fact that it was brought back with magic (or grown back?)....Sheese, I need to re-read that book. But a lot of people worry that when the Weave goes (courtesy of the Spellplague) that magic items, magically-created structures, etc., will just go to pieces or stop functioning. And the City of Hope has a certain relation with Miyeritar...I guess? (I just got off the road, scholarly accuracy isn't my forte at this minute.) And with drow recently using High Magic, etc., some think the drow will become separated into regular dorw and 'dark elves' (as they used to be before The Descent). 'Dark elves' will need a new place to stay if Eilistraeen strongholds like the Promenade go down for the count, especially as a refuge for those who desire to rework old High Magic in the centuries to come. The City of Hope could be that refuge, so it would indeed be silly for WotC to go through the trouble of bringing back only to have it fall apart. same goes for Eilistraee herself, with her own changes. |

| Selvarin10-19-07, 02:46 PM | Glad I was close, unless I have the actual book out I won't say definitively one way or another. Otherwise I'll get a Brainy Smurf saying, "If you read the 13th chapter of the 16th book in the Harmodofoffin uber-multi-trilogy you would've known that Karmoffin was a relative of Larakyn and came out of the left door, and not the right door as you've said." (I've been there before, on both sides, I don't wanna see my twin book-lawyer yet. ;) ) |
